FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK….

A man had two sons. He came to the first and said, 'Son, go out and work in the vineyard today.' He said in reply, 'I will not, ' but afterwards changed his mind and went. The man came to the other son and gave the same order. He said in reply, 'Yes, sir, but did not go. (From today’s Gospel)

Question: How can you tell a politician is lying? Answer: Whenever his or her mouth is open. With all due respect to those who run for political office, and are willing to take on those awesome responsibilities, their campaign rhetoric leaves most of us confused. As you are reading this we are about 4 ½ weeks away from the election in November. Usually with a major election on the horizon I get bombarded with the question, “whom should I vote for?” This year is no different, although I seem to be getting the question a lot more than usual. My reply has been the same for forty plus years, “vote for the person (people) who best represent your views and beliefs.” Even though I have my personal opinions, I have to be careful not to tell others how they should vote, because of my position as the pastor of a Catholic Parish. I strongly encourage people to bring their faith with them when they vote, to pray about their decisions and to consult Church resources in coming to their choices. I wholeheartedly recommend going to two websites in particular, wisconsincatholic.org (the official site of the Wisconsin Catholic Conference) and usccb.org (the official site of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops). Both sites provide voter information to help Catholics make their own voting decisions. It is important to remember that rarely are things in the political arena simple and clear to those of us who have to vote. Most issues are complex and can be viewed in a variety of ways, that is the reason we should pray about our decision, seeking God’s help and direction. Congratulations to the second half of our children who are receiving their First Communion this Sunday (the first half was last Sunday). This has been a challenging year for all of us, but especially for those who were scheduled to receive one of the Sacraments this spring. We thank God for this opportunity to celebrate with them. May their faith in and love of the Lord continue to grow and be strengthened. God’s blessings to you all – Fr. Mark

A PRAYER OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION Jesus, really present in the Most Holy Sacrament of the altar, since I cannot now receive thee under the sacramental veil, I beseech thee, with a heart full of love and longing, to come spiritually into my soul through the Immaculate Heart of thy most Holy Mother, and to abide with me, thou in me, and I in thee, in time and in eternity. Amen.

Women of Christ

Women of Christ - MORNING of GRACE RETREAT

The Women of Christ Morning of Grace Retreat will be held on Saturday, October

10. With millions of sacraments not received over the last 5 months, there is a void of

Sacramental grace. Join us at one of the participating parishes and help FILL THE

VOID! The Retreat begins with Mass at 715 am at St. Patrick’s followed by

recorded reflections by three archdiocesan priests, Fr. Patrick Burns, Fr. Jacob

Strand, and Fr. Nick Baumgardner. The morning ends at 1100 am, concluding with

Eucharistic Adoration and Confession. All health protocols set by the Archdiocese

(social distancing, face coverings, Communion, etc) will be followed. There is no fee,

but registration is required and may be done using the link below. No food will be

served and we ask that you refrain from bringing coffee and other beverages into the

church. Finally, a free will offering may be made to contribute toward priest stipends

and cleaning supplies.

Join us as we celebrate Catholic education. We are walking with more than 100 schools throughout the Archdiocese of Milwaukee.

All money raised will be used to help us meet our fundraising goal.

That's right - every dollar raised by our team will stay with our school!

We hope you will support our efforts by making a secure online donation and walking with us on October 17! Please go to the below link to learn more of this worthwhile event: https://app.mobilecause.com/vf/SOLES/team/StPeterEastTroy "Our Mission is to help each child reach their potential in a community of faith which is living,

GOT METAL????

There is a dumpster next to the Carriage House that

we have to put our scrap metal into. It is quite large

and if you have any metal you would like to get rid of,

please bring it over. The scrap company will pay us

for the metal and give the profit to St. Peters Church.

Clean up your garage/basement and support your

parish, only until space allows. Do not leave it outside

the dumpster.

LECTORS, EUCHARSTIC MINISTERS AND ALTAR SERVER SCHEDULES.

Watch your mailboxes as the schedules will be mailed out soon. At this time, we can only have one Eucharistic Minister although three are listed. So we ask that only one of you come forward. Although Altar Servers cannot serve quite yet, we are hopeful that will change soon. We have included their schedules in the mailing as well. Watch the bulletin or web-site for changes as they occur. The schedules will be posted on the website as well in case your schedule gets lost in the mail.

WEEKEND MARRIAGE RETREAT

A Lifeline for Marriage - Retrouvaille (pronounced retro-VI with a long I) helps couples through difficult times in their marriages. It is designed to provide the tools to help get marriages back on track. Maybe you know someone - a friend, family member or coworker - who is struggling. Or maybe your own marriage needs a lifeline? This program has helped tens of thousands of couples experiencing marital difficulty at all levels, including disillusionment and deep misery. For confidential information about or to register for the program beginning with a weekend October 16-18, 2020 in Oconomowoc, please call (414) 502-7685 or email: [email protected] or visit the website at http://www.HelpOurMarriage.org

We will finally be celebrating First Communion with the children from the parish who were suppose to receive their First Communion this past spring. We will be celebrating with them at the 10 AM Mass on Sunday Sept. 27th. Please take this into consideration as you make your plans for attending Mass on those weekends.

Frank's Piggly Wiggly Receipts The end of 3rd quarter is quickly approaching (September 30th). Please drop off your receipts in the back of church or at the school so the tabulators can count them and turn them in to Frank's during the first week of October. Second quarter was a bit off presumably due to the pandemic but still gained the school/church $316. Nice Job and Thank You!

THANK YOU FOR SHARING SUNDAY Thank you For your 100# of non perishable food items donated to the food pantry for September’s Sharing Sunday. We thank you for helping us help those hungry in our community

CELEBRATING

100 YEARS

Each January or early February, St. Mary's students honored the"Lady of Lourdes" by holding the "Lourdes Ball". This formal would include a complete orchestra and the highlight of the evening was the grand march, after which students sang, "Mother Beloved" and recited the "Act of Consecration". The dance would conclude by praying three Hail Marys. "The choice of name for St. Mary's/Catholic Central's annual yearbook, The Marian, was handed down by former classes, implying devotion to the Virgin Mother Mary. Through the ages, Mary has been the inspiration of the arts: literature, music, painting and architecture. Above all, Mary is our inspiration in the art of Christian living."

HELP WANTED - Do you like to cook?

Do you like children? St. Peter’s School is looking for someone to prepare lunch for our children. Hours are approximately 10:30 to 12:30 pm on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. This is a paid position. Please call Deb in the school office at 642-5533 for more information or to apply.

LIFE CHAIN 2020 On Sunday, October 4, from 2:00-3:00 we will be standing for life, holding signs and praying for an end to abortion, along hwy's 20 & ES. We are allowed to park in the Bible church parking lot. Our parish began to be a part of this annual national gathering well over 15 years ago. We've had as few as 2 of us standing out there in the pouring rain (3, if you include my preborn grandson) and up to as many as 30 one year. Fr. Mark has been the ONLY pastor, of all the churches invited to join us (these past 15 years, plus), who has stood out there and prayed with us, year after year. Abortion has been legal in our country for nearly 48 years. Over 60 million preborn babies were never allowed to take their first breath, be held & loved, never allowed to giggle or play, nor have the choice to grow up & become what they might've been. 60 million babies, in the U.S., alone.

New Day Women's Clinic invites you to "Step into a New Day" with us as we celebrate the opening of our medical services, make an exciting new announcement about our clinic, and hear from Speaker Evie West as she shares her per-sonal testimony of how a center like ours changed her life. The event will be held Friday, October 9, from 6-8:30 pm at Calvary Community Church, Williams Bay. We are not able to serve dinner, but will have dessert and coffee beginning at 6 pm, with the program beginning at 7 pm. You may purchase your $20 ticket by going to www.ndguardians.org/events and selecting "NDWC Annual Event", or by calling our office at 262-725-6971 x102. All state mandates in place at the time of the event will be fol-lowed at the event, along with health screenings. We look forward to seeing you there!

FALL FESTIVAL NEWS

As you know, because of Covid 19, we are unable to have our normal St Peter's Fall

Festival and chicken dinner this year. As the Fall weather begins to approach, the idea of hot homemade soup and pies really appeals. This year, we will offer a "drive thru" soup and pie sale on Sunday, October 4. It will be held from 11 to 3pm or until we are sold out. We will be offering homemade chicken noodle or dumpling soup, sold by the quart for $10. Homemade apple, cherry or pumpkin pies will also be offered for $10 each (frozen pies will also be available). We will be selling these items along with raffle tickets on the Square and in St Peter's School parking lot. The 2

different raffle tickets are for a Queen Sized Quilt provided by the St Peter's Quilters, and a raffle for first prize of $1000 Weber grill and separate cash prizes of $300 and $200. Raffle tickets and presale soup and pie tickets can be purchased at St Peter's Rectory office, Martin's Hardware, and First Citizen's State Bank. Drawings for the raffles will be held on November 1.
