DEACON’S BENCH

My Friends and Fellow Parishioners,

Think about this. What would you think about God, if when you got to heaven, you saw Osama bin Laden, Adolf Hitler, Judas

Iscariot, and the person you hated the most in this life, all there already?

Really, this is what Jesus is talking about in today’s Gospel. Jesus tells us, “Take what is yours and go. What if I wish to give this last one the same as you? Or am I not free to do as I wish with my own money? Are you envious because I am gen-

erous? Thus, the last will be first, and the first will be last." People at the time of Jesus were not a whole lot different than most of us are today. We want God to agree with us who should go to hell. But this is not what this Gospel tells us. God gets

to decide for God. I do not know who is going to go to hell, even though I have probably said, or least thought, someone

should go to hell. But it is not up to me to decide for God. God is love! God has an infinite capacity to forgive, which is what last Sunday’s Gospel told us. How God demonstrates His love and forgiveness is not for us to judge. I know for me this is

comforting; I know I am a sinner. I want God to judge me, not others who do not know what is in my heart.

Saint Mother Teresa once said, “We should not serve the poor like they were Jesus. We should serve the poor because

they are Jesus.” As you know, the St. Vincent de Paul Society is always looking for canned goods, cereal, and pasta to help

feed those in need. You can bring canned goods, etc. with you to Mass and leave them in the back of Church. If it is incon-

venient for you to bring groceries to church, we have Poor Boxes in the back of all of our Churches. All money collected in

these boxes goes directly to our Society. Our St. Vincent de Paul Society opens its doors to give help three times a week to

those who are in need. Please check in your pockets and see if you do not have some money to share.

Thank you!

Bereavement Ministry Bereavement Ministry—Am I going crazy?”

Am I going crazy? This is a question often asked during the journey

through grief. Come join us and find others who are traveling along this

often painful and confusing path. Share stories of hope and find peace with

those who understand and empathize with what you are experiencing.

Please come join us at the St. Agnes Meeting Room. Meetings are held on

the first and third Mondays of each month from 7 pm to 8 pm. For more

information, please call Bill and Anne Fazio 410-378-2092.

Adult bible study

Bible Study at St. Agnes meets Wednesday evenings @ 7:00 pm. The study

is Follow Me—Meeting Jesus in the Gospel of John, by Edward Gri. Ques-

tions please call Marie at 410-642-6534.

The Prayer Shawl Guild meets on the first Tuesday of each month from 1

PM to 3 PM at the St. Agnes Meeting Room. We hope to offer warmth and

the message of God’s blessings to those in need of comfort. The Prayer

Shawl Ministry uses yarn to create prayer shawls to comfort and warm

those in need. For instance: those working through cancer treatment, sig-

nificant illness, the loss of a loved one--people who would benefit

from being wrapped in prayers and love. Members of this ministry will knit

and crochet special shawls and blankets that will receive a pastoral bless-

ing. Each shawl or blanket begins and ends with prayers and blessings for

the recipient. For further information regarding the Prayer Shawl Guild,

please call Anne Fazio at 410-378-2092.

Please contact Marie Sypolt at the Parish Office to request a prayer shawl

for someone in need.

Virtue of the month—Faith

Teacher of the Week My name is Elizabeth Masciantonio. I graduated from Neumann University in May 2013 with a degree in elementary education

and special education. Before coming to Good Shepherd, I was the Kindergarten/First grade teacher at Tender Loving Kare. Some of my favorite things are spending time with my family, reading, volunteering, giraffes, and music. I am very excited to

be here at Good Shepherd and to be the 2nd grade teacher this year. I look forward to getting to know all of the students

and families here!

Adoption: The Loving and Caring Option

In the U.S., there are approximately two million couples waiting to adopt .

Clearly, this is absolutely tragic. Many good, loving families are waiting throughout our nation for a baby whom they

want to cherish, value, and raise for the rest of that baby’s life. Instead of babies going to these families, they go into

a trash heap or down a garbage disposal, victims of abortion.

Adoption – especially the adoption of a newborn baby – almost always involves a loving, excited couple who have

dreamed for years of holding and caring for their own special treasure.

Do mothers considering abortion realize that families actually go on waiting lists to adopt newborn babies? Do they

realize that some couples wait years to adopt the baby they’ve desperately waited to hold in their arms? Do mothers

realize how many experienced parents with wisdom, resources, and plenty of love are reaching out to adopt another

child –- no matter his or her race, gender, or disability?

We need to let mothers know that they can handpick their babies’ adoptive families. They can choose an open

adoption, where they see their babies at certain times throughout the year. They can choose a partially open

adoption, where they receive photos and updates about their children’s lives. Or they can choose a closed adoption

and give their babies completely over to their adoptive families. We must let expectant mothers know that adoption is

the loving, caring option.
