INTRODUCTORY RITES (please stand)
ENTRANCE HYMN Come As You Are SIGN OF THE CROSS & GREETING SPRINKLING WITH HOLY WATER C. – In the waters of Baptism, John died with Christ and rose
with him to new life. May he now share with him eternal glory.
LIGHTING OF THE PASCHAL CANDLE Trish C. – The Paschal Candle stands before us as a symbol of Christ
who is our light. It reminds us that through John’s baptism he walks always as a child of the light, bearing the flame of faith in his heart. I now invite Trish to come forward and light the Paschal Candle.
COLLECT C. – Let us pray: Eternal God, you have called John out of this
world. Welcome him to eternal life and reward all the good he has done. Look kindly on those who pray for him this day, that they may not be overwhelmed by their loss, but be sustained in peace and love. We ask this through Christ our Lord.
A. – Amen.
(please be seated) LITURGY OF THE WORD FIRST READING (2 Tim 4:6-8) Luke A reading from the Second Letter of St Paul to Timothy. As for me, my life is already being poured away as a libation, and the time has come for me to be gone. I have fought the good fight to the end, I have run the race to the finish, I have kept the faith; all there is to come now is the crown of righteousness reserved for me, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will give to me on that Day; and not only to me but to all those who have longed for his Appearing. The Word of the Lord. A. – Thanks be to God. RESPONSORIAL PSALM (Psalm 23) The Lord is My Shepherd (Sung)
GOSPEL ACCLAMATION (John 14: 1-6) (please stand)
A. – Alleluia, alleluia! I am the resurrection and the life says the Lord; whoever believes in me will not die forever. Alleluia!
GOSPEL (Matt. 5:1-12) C. – The Lord be with you. A. – And with your spirit. C. – A reading from the Holy Gospel according to John. A. – Glory to you, O Lord. Seeing the crowds, Jesus went up the hill. There he sat down and was joined by his disciples. Then he began to speak. This is what he taught them: ‘How happy are the poor in spirit; theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Happy the gentle: they shall have the earth for their heritage. Happy those who mourn: they shall be comforted. Happy those who hunger and thirst for what is right: they shall be satisfied. Happy the merciful: they shall have mercy shown them. Happy the pure in heart: they shall see God. Happy the peacemakers: they shall be called sons of God. Happy those who are persecuted in the cause of right: theirs is the kingdom of heaven.’
‘Happy are you when people abuse you and persecute you and speak all kinds of calumny against you on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven.’ The Gospel of the Lord. A. – Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ. HOMILY

We give you thanks for the blessings which you bestowed upon John in this life: they are signs to us of your goodness and of our fellowship with the saints in Christ. Merciful Lord, turn toward us and listen to our prayers: open the gates of paradise to our brother and help us who remain to comfort one another with assurances of faith, until we all meet in Christ and are with you, and with our brother John, forever.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. A. – Amen. PROCESSION TO THE PLACE OF COMMITTAL C. – In peace let us take our brother John to his place of rest. RECESSIONAL MUSIC What a Wonderful World
