ALL SOULS DAY Monday, November 2nd

The Commemoration of all the Faithful Departed

Each year All Souls Day is a day of special prayer for all those who have died. We pray that those souls in need of perfection may swiftly pass through their purification and

come into the presence of God.

It is the grace of the Communion of Saints that we can have this special relationship of prayer with those who have

departed this life. The Mass schedule is as follows:

7:30AM and 11:00AM - All Souls Mass

MASS OF REMEMBRANCE Monday, November 2nd at 7:30PM

One of our most beloved traditions at Nativity Church occurs every year during the month of November. This is the month when the whole Church remembers those who have passed from this world in hope of eternal life. At Nativity we celebrate a special Mass for those of our parish family who have died in the past year.

We wish to invite your family and friends to this special Eucharist.

This special Mass will take place on Monday, November 2nd at 7:30pm. Please know that you are in our prayers and in the prayers of the community of Nativity. Love and blessings, Fr. Bob Cilinski Pastor

“Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar's and to God the things that are God's.”

- MATTHEW 22:21

Everything we are and everything we have belongs to God. We aren't “owners” of anything, we are merely “stewards” of the gifts God has given each of us. All God is asking is that we give

back a portion of what He gave us. This is the essence of Stewardship. God should be our first priority in everything.

All else comes second, especially our money.

ST. LUCY PROJECT NEWS

There has been a large increase in the number of people who are experiencing food insecurity. For the period of March to June 2020, the St. Lucy Warehouse has distributed over 90% more food than it did the previous year. While need has increased, donations are down. Compared to last year, food drives are down by 23% and pounds collected are down by 28%. Donor fatigue has set in. Staff at the SLP have come up with ideas to help with food donations during this time, including, "No Contact Drive Thru" food collections and donating online using the Amazon Gift Wish List link: ccda.net/SLPAmazonWishList.

NEW Diocesan Padre Pio Hospital Ministry arlingtondiocese.org/hospitalministry/

The new Padre Pio Ministry to the Suffering, is an informal extension of the Hospital Ministry. Fr Starzynski saw a need to give hope and meaning to the suffering. Through redemptive suffering, people can use their suffering for the good of others and the Church. Part of the Padre Pio Ministry is the sharing of prayer folders, which contain a beautiful prayer booklet, prayer cards, and numerous other Diocesan resources.

“I would now like to say a special word to women who have had an abortion. The Church is aware of the many factors which may have influenced your decision, and she does not doubt that in many cases it was a painful and even shattering decision. The wound in your heart may not yet have healed. ...But do

not give in to discouragement and do not lose hope. ...The Father of mercies is ready to give you his forgiveness and his peace in the Sacrament of Reconciliation” (EV 99). A message from The Nativity Creation Care Ministry

Enjoy the messy aspects of God’s creation in the fall and protect biodiversity. While there is satisfaction in cleaning up the yard and garden in the fall, many of God’s creatures would prefer that we left things a bit messier. Let your perennials stand till spring—the seed heads provide invaluable food for winter birds as do the insect larvae overwintering in hollow stems.

Leave the leaves where you can or rake them to the garden beds or mulch them with a mower to nourish your lawn. They provide places for bugs and birds to forage for food as well as habitat for small critters like salamanders, toads, worms and snails. If you have the space, build a brush pile of fallen branches—it will shelter birds and other creatures in bad weather and decompose over time. Plan to add your Christmas tree.

Avoid weed and feed mixture mania and fertilize your lawn with mulched leaf litter. Chemical fertilizing, killing weeds, watering, and mowing our lawns, and bagging grass clippings is expensive, time consuming and negatively impacts our air and water quality and local habitat. Consider more garden beds of native plants and grasses—fall is a great time to plant! Native plants support local birds, pollinators, and food webs--God's Creation. 1 Million Hail Marys Challenge

Fr. Hayes wants us to continue our parish-wide prayer challenge. The goal of the One Million Hail Marys project is to offer 1,000,000 (or 100,000 decades of the Rosary). You could offer a Hail Mary while you’re brushing your teeth, making your coffee, driving to work, folding laundry, etc! Intentions: The special intention for these prayers is that Mary will protect us, our families, our country, and our world. We pray for the healing of wounds from past hurts and of those wounds that come from relationships with each other. We pray for Mary’s protection against the ways the Devil tries to hurt us (like the St. Michael the Archangel prayer). And anything else you need our Spiritual Mother to bring to her Son, Jesus Christ. To log in your challenges and for more information, please go to: https://nativityburke.org/hail-mary-challenge/

CATHOLIC CHARITIES CROPS GLEANING

Please help Catholic Charities feed the hungry by volunteering to glean crops on a One Day Mission trip to the northern neck of Virginia. “Gleaning” is the traditional biblical practice of gathering crops that would otherwise be left to rot in the fields or be plowed under after harvest.

The freshly gleaned produce will be transported back to Catholic Charities' St. Lucy Project Food Warehouse and given to those in need. The last 2020 trip will be offered on Novem-ber 7th, it is a great service project for church groups, families, book clubs and confirmation students (with parental supervi-sion).

October 18, 2020 World Mission Sunday

On October 18, the Church celebrates the annual World Mission Sunday for the Missions and missionaries around the world. Proceeds from this second collection, administered by the Pontifical Mission Societies, help support the merciful work of local churches in Asia, Africa, the Pacific Islands, Latin America, and parts of Europe. Please be generous, thank you!

Here am I, send me (Is 6:8) Pope Francis: Message for World Mission Day 2020

In this year marked by the suffering and challenges created by the Covid-19 pandemic, the missionary journey of the whole Church continues in light of the words found in the account of the calling of the prophet Isaiah: “Here am I, send me” (6:8). This is the ever new response to the Lord’s question: “Whom shall I send?.”

This invitation from God’s merciful heart challenges both the Church and humanity as a whole in the current world crisis. “Like the disciples in the Gospel we were caught off guard by an unexpected, turbulent storm. We have realized that we are on the same boat, all of us fragile and disoriented, but at the same time important and needed, all of us called to row together, each of us in need of com-forting the other. On this boat… are all of us. Just like those disciples, who spoke anxiously with one voice, saying ‘We are perish-ing’ (v. 38), so we too have realized that we cannot go on thinking of ourselves, but only together can we do this” (Meditation in Saint Peter’s Square, 27 March 2020).

We are indeed frightened, disoriented and afraid. Pain and death make us experience our human frailty, but at the same time remind us of our deep desire for life and liberation from evil. In this context, the call to mission, the invitation to step out of ourselves for love of God and neighbor presents itself as an opportunity for sharing, service and intercessory prayer.

The mission that God entrusts to each one of us leads us from fear and introspection to a renewed realization that we find ourselves precisely when we give ourselves to others.

SIN VIVIR AL MARGEN

Domingo XXIX Javier Leoz
