FOURTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

CATHOLIC CHARITIES NEWS In 2007, Catholic Charities USA launched the “Campaign to Reduce Poverty in America” with the audacious goal of reducing poverty in the U.S. by 50% by the year 2020. At that time the poverty rate in our country stood at 12.5% but has risen to its current level of 15.1% due to the economic downturn. And, the measure used for determining the rate of poverty is a 45 year-old formula – meaning that the real number of people in poverty is much greater. Currently poverty is measured for a single per-son earning less than $11,344 annually or a family of four earn-ing less than $22,113. To find out more about the poverty campaign and how you can

be a part of the solution, visit www.CatholicCharitiesUSA.org/

Dear Friends of Holy Spirit:

Last weekend we honored Sr. Joann Hunt for her 22 years of ministry at Holy Spirit. Saturday (June 30th) was a reception that was, from all indications, a grand celebration with both the English and Hispanic communities involved. I hope you will joined us! Sr. Joann was primarily responsible for Sunday Reli-gious Education and the sacramental preparation for our children. Besides these two critical programs, she also was instrumental in bringing Christ Renews His Parish and Hispanic ministry to Holy Spirit. Through the CRHP pro-gram over 500 parishioners have experienced a deeper rela-tionship with God and found many new brothers and sis-ters in the parish. Through the Hispanic Ministry, we now have 600 parishioners attending the Spanish Mass each weekend, and many others who attend the English Masses. I want to thank Sr. Joann for having the courage and vision to step forward with these programs. We could count many other ministries through which Sr. Joann has ministered: RCIA, Marriage Preparation, SPRED, Sunday coffee and donuts and our Spring garage sale. We will miss you (in more ways than we now realize!!). Festival is inching closer. Saturday was our final day of booth-building and all the committee chairs are looking for volunteers. Just call the office if you want to volunteer but have not been contacted. God’s Blessings and Love,

Gracias! Gracias! Gracias! My sincere thanks to every person who helped make my recep-tion such a wonderful experience. I wish to thank the planning committee and every person who helped in any way, especially those who helped set-up and clean-up, decorate, brought food, served, participated in the program, made the cake, arranged the music, AND most of all everyone who attended the evening and offered me their prayers and good wishes for the future. It has been a gift from God that allowed me to work with and for each of you. I am truly happy for the opportunity you have given me to lead and to serve in this parish. I love each of you and will pray for you and your families every day in the future. I thank Father Paul and the parish staff for their support and for their best wishes in the days and weeks ahead. I am sure that God will bless us all, and that we will find many new adventure in our future. If there is any way that I can be of help to you, please contact me @ 787-3287, ext. 3371. I will be at the Mon-astery in Beech Grove, and will be finding new ways to serve the Sisters and the Church. We must band together to protect our freedoms, most especially our Freedom of Religion. After all MANY men and women died to give us this freedom -- IT MUST BE PROTECTED! All Christians are called to task, our country was founded on Christian principles. Please let's protect and cherish them. Also in that same regarding the Fortnight for Freedom is being observed by our Bishops as well. This is a special 2-week period of time from June 21, 2012 leading up to Independence Day, July 4, 2012 in which Catholics across the country will gather for prayer and fasting to highlight the importance of religious liberty. This is in response to the threat against the First Amendment posed by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services "contraceptive mandate." Two Eastside institutions come together to make a better Indianapolis!

INDIANAPOLIS (July 14, 2012) - RecycleForce will partner with Holy Spirit Catholic School for an Electronics Recycling event as part of their historic festival. This festival is by far the largest and longest running in Marion County.

RecycleForce will accept electronics, cardboard, EPS block foam, bicycles and bike accessories from 8am to Noon on Saturday, July 14th. New to the RecycleForce Program in 2012, gently used shoes will also be accepted. The collection and festival will be held at the Holy Spirit Catholic School, 7243 East 10th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46219 The concept is simple: commuters are encouraged to load up their trunks with old electronics (computers, printers, televisions, etc.), cardboard, clean white EPS foam (#6, no food containers), old bicycles and bike accessories, and old shoes. A full list of recyclable items can be found at http://tinyurl.com/eastside2012. A $10 donation is requested to recycle lead-tube TVs & monitors and a $20 donation for refrigerant barring appliances. The recycling site is full-service just pop the trunk and staff will unload recyclables and have families on their way to enjoy the fun at the festival. Donated shoes will go to Changing Footprints, an Indiana nonprofit providing new or gently used shoes to homeless, disaster-stricken or underprivileged people. Changing Footprints has collected and distributed thousands of shoes locally, nationally and internationally. The nonprofit recently delivered 200 pair to aid tornado victims in Henryville, Ind. Since 2006, every year RecycleForce processes millions of pounds of recyclables into jobs.

About RecycleForce

RecycleForce, a 501(c)3 organization, is a social enterprise offering comprehensive, innovative and responsible recycling services while providing life-changing workforce training to formerly incarcerated individuals. Taking the electronic waste and other recyclables provided by residents and corporate partners, RecycleForce deconstructs these items, recycles the materials and disposes of the waste safely and cleanly. The scrap metals and other reusable materials collected in this process are then sold to help pay for job training programs and employment opportunities for formerly incarcerated men and women in order to support their re-entry back into society. For more information visit RecycleForce.org. About the Holy Spirit Festival

The Holy Spirit festival has been happening since 1946 the proceeds of this event go to fund vital programs in both the school and the church. For more information visit the

website at http://www.holyspirit-indy.org/.
