Through worship, education, and service, we continue the work of Jesus.

The Solemnity of All Saints is a Holy Day of Obligation. Masses will be cel-
ebrated according to the following schedule:
Monsignor Albert Jowdy and the parish of Im-
maculate Heart of Mary invite you to attend our
annual Mass of Remembrance remembering the
faithful departed of the last year. The Mass of
Remembrance will be celebrated on Thursday,
November 2, at 7:00 p.m.
Monsignor Al and Father Javier will celebrate a novena of Masses for the intentions
of our beloved dead beginning on All Souls Day. If you would like to participate in
this novena, please submit the names of your deceased loved ones on the form en-
losed with your church envelopes. Extras are available in the narthex and at the par-
ish office.
The Book of the Names of the Dead will be placed near the baptismal font beginning
on All Souls Day. Everyone is welcome to inscribe the names of their deceased loved
ones. As you pass the Book and see the burning candle upon entering and leaving
church during November, remember to offer up a prayer for all whose names are en-
shrined there.
Thank you for your overwhelming
support last weekend for the people of
Puerto Rico. Through your generosity,
we filled a 20-foot truck to the rim with
badly needed supplies, and we raised
over $8,000 to offset shipping costs for
these goods. Dozens of volunteers
staffed the truck throughout the
weekend and helped transport the
supplies to the staging area in John’s
Creek. As Puerto Rico’s national feast
of Our Lady of Providence draws near,
let us continue to hold our brothers
and sisters there in prayer.

If you still have a pledge balance to the 2017 Archbishop’s Annual Appeal, please
complete your payments as soon as possible. About $100,000 in pledges from IHM
parishioners still remain to be paid. (Payments must be received by December 31 in
order to be included in your 2017 statement for tax purposes.)
We have surpassed our parish goal for this year’s Annual Appeal! That means that
pledges fulfilled through the end of the year will be returned to IHM without any
archdiocesan assessment! So every $1.00 given to the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal
now is worth about $1.30 placed in the parish offertory! This is a generous provision
that we should be taking maximum advantage of!
If you have not made a pledge yet and you wish to be part of the 2017 Archbishop’s
Annual Appeal to support the works of the Catholic Church in the north half of Geor-
gia, please visit ihmatlanta.org or appeal.archatl.com, or contact Nancy Stoehr 404-
920-7600 or [email protected].
Thank you for your good stewardship of IHM and the Catholic Church!
October 21 & 22

Thank you to everyone who came in
and had their photo taken for our
60th Anniversary Parish Directory!
If you missed your chance—or had
to miss your scheduled appoint-
ment—we are working on schedul-
ing a make up day in the spring, so
keep checking the bulletin for that
make up date!

All Saints Day? For most kids (and many adults), Halloween is the real holiday to
get excited about this week! Yes, Halloween can be a night of innocent fun and en-
chantment, but Catholic parents should try to keep children mindful of the rest of the
week too: All Saints Day, All Souls Day, and our prayerful remembrance of those
who have gone before us.
A Prayer for Trick-or-Treaters
God, bless all the people we will meet.
Let our visit with them be a pleasant treat.
Whatever the costumes we wear tonight,
May we all be clothed with Christ’s light.
Protect us from danger and the devil’s ways,
That tomorrow with the saints we may sing your praise.
- Diana Macalintal, The Work of Y our Hands
Ways to Celebrate Halloween in a Catholic Context 1. Ask your kids to research their favorite saint or the saint they're named after.
They could even dress up as their favorite saint for Halloween!
2. Tell your children that Halloween can be a festive day to kick off the celebration
of All Saints Day. We ask the saints—our spiritual ancestors—to pray for us on
our own journey to holiness.
3. At breakfast, recite a short litany of family members who have died and whom
you remember in your prayers. After each name, have everyone say, “Pray for
us.”

A’plas: The Story of Blessed Stanley Rother Sunday, October 29, 10:15-11:15 a.m.
IHM School Library
Recently we saw the beatification of Fr. Stanley Rother, the
first person born in the U.S. to be officially recognized as a
martyr. Join us to learn more about how an ordinary Okla-
homa farm-boy became the pastor of a Mayan parish in
Guatemala, and how he eventually gave up his life for his
flock.
We will watch the documentary A’plas: The Story of Father Stanley Rother and hear
from Monsignor Jowdy about how the witness of the Central American martyrs has
shaped his own life and ministry.
Next Sunday morning, November 5, we will hold a follow-up conversation with
Diane Hardin, Fr. Stanley Rother’s cousin. Please join us for one or both of these
special events to mark the week of All Saints.
Each Thursday, Dr. Louanne Bachner leads an informative and prayerful
discussion of the lectionary readings for the following Sunday. The study
meets in the Lower Level at two different times: 9:30 a.m. or 7:00 p.m.
Are you interested in becoming Catholic or learning more about the
Catholic faith? Please join us on Wednesday nights at 7:00 pm in the lower level of the church. Contact
Drew Denton for more information.
