From the Pastor… My Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, In this week's Gospel, Jesus reveals His mis-sion through four catch phrases: + “To bring good news to the poor” Mother Teresa believed that poverty is freedom. In a beau-tiful article about her in Time Magazine, she was asked about the materialism of the West. “The more you have, the more you are occupied,” she contended. "But the less you have, the freer you are. Poverty for us is a freedom. It is a joyful freedom.” Talking to the reporter about the reli-gious houses of her Missionaries of Charity she said; “There is no television here, no this, no that. This is the only fan in the whole house...and it is for the guests. But we are happy.” “I find the rich poorer,” she continued. “Sometimes they are lonelier inside...The hunger for love is much more difficult to fill than the hunger for bread...The real poor know what is joy.” When asked about her plans for the future, she replied, “I just take one day at a time.” + “To proclaim liberty to captives” This statement does not only refer to prisoners. Each one of us has attachments and addictions, which hinder our freedom to love and serve God and others. Whether we like it not, we are captives of our own selfishness. God wishes to liberate us from these sinful tendencies and hab-its. + “To give new sight to the blind” Sometimes wealth, honor and power can blind us to our true identity. We may tend to feel self-sufficient, thinking that our fate is in our hands alone: God and others could become irrelevant. Sometimes we can be blinded by worldly desires and fail to see what our mission truly is. We have to allow Jesus to open our inner eyes to observe what it is that prevents us from seeing our own problems. We need enlightenment from Jesus to understand the truths in our life. It is in these situations that we need more faith and belief in God and dependency on the power of God rather than trying to solve everything by ourselves and then failing and blaming God. + “To announce the Lord’s year of mercy” Mercy and compassion can be seen as the core elements of Jesus' preaching. Our God is a compassionate and merciful Father that is why He sent us His Son for our salvation. The mercy of God is beyond our understanding. So the mission of Jesus really centers on the mercy that He has shown throughout His public ministry. As children of God and followers of Christ, we have a responsibility to be compassionate and merciful in our daily interactions with others. It is good to reflect on our own mission in this life and correct any areas in which we have not been compas-sionate and merciful. Pastoral Council Meeting Minutes for November 19, 2018

Attendees: Fr. Edison, Jose Parrilla, Ted Domey, Marie Colvin, Bill Klosterman, James Mukalel, Bill Raynor, Judy Erlendsson Meeting began at 7:36 p.m. Prayer by Fr. Edison. Review of October minutes: Marie Colvin motioned;

Bill Raynor seconded; all approved. No corrections needed.

Sock drive project for homeless: one of the Boy Scouts will talk about it at masses.

Behavioral Health Parish Assistance program by Bay Care: can provide counseling to parishioners. $5250 annual fee. Marie Colvin motioned; Jose Parrilla sec-onded; all approved. The finance committee will also look at the program.

New happenings in January: Confessions will be held before every mass. There will be a 6:30 pm mass every first Friday of each month with Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament following until 8:30 pm. The Blessed Sacrament will be put away into the Taberna-cle every afternoon at 4:00 pm. There will be an added Thanksgiving vigil mass (1 English and 1 Spanish).

Thank you to Jose, Bill K., and Juanita for helping with the volunteer dinner.

Courageously Living the Gospel (Diocese’s mission): We need a core group to make a parish plan; the group will consist of one person from each ministry.

Monthly donuts: It has been suggested that we also serve cookies at 4:30 pm mass on Saturday.

ECHO will serve Thanksgiving dinner on Thanksgiv-ing at St. Francis.

Sound system: The equipment has been ordered and should be installed by Christmas. $22,000 has been collected.

Congratulations to Marie Colvin for receiving the St. Jude’s medal.

On December 12, there will be a celebration of Our Lady of Guadalupe, 5:00-7:00 am and 6:30 pm.

Good Health Practices for Mass With the onset of the cold and flu season the Office of Worship offers the following reminders on good health practices regarding the celebration of Mass. Get vaccinated. The CDC recommends the flu vaccina-

tion, especially for those who are at high risk. Stay home when sick. There is no sin if you miss Mass

because you are sick or taking care of someone who is sick.

Cover your mouth and nose. When you cough or sneeze, use a tissue and throw the tissue in the trash af-ter you use it (or use your sleeve if a tissue is not avail-able).

Wash your hands often. Clean your hands regularly with soap and water, especially after coughing or sneezing.

Avoiding touching your eyes, nose or mouth. If you are sick with flu-like symptoms, the CDC rec-

ommends that you stay home for an additional 24 hours after your fever is gone without the use of a fever-reducing medication.

If you are feeling sick or you are at risk for infection you should refrain from the Communion cup and perhaps shaking people’s hands at the sign of peace. (If someone chooses to refrain from the handshake, be gracious and considerate.)

Desde el Escritorio del Párroco Queridos hermanos y hermanas en Cristo: En el Evangelio de esta semana, Jesús revela su misión a través de cuatro frases: + “Traer la buena nueva a los pobres” La Madre Teresa creía que la pobreza era libertad. En un hermoso artículo sobre ella en Time Magazine, se le pre-guntó sobre el materialismo de Occidente. “Cuanto más tienes, más ocupado estás”, sostuvo ella. “Pero cuanto me-nos tienes, más libre eres. La pobreza para nosotros es una libertad. Es una libertad gozosa”. Hablando con el perio-dista sobre las casas religiosas de sus Misioneras de la Ca-ridad, dijo ella; “Aquí no hay televisión, ni esto, ni aque-llo. Este es el único fanático de toda la casa... y es para los huéspedes. Pero estamos felices”. “Encuentro a los ricos más pobres”, continuó. “Algunas veces están más solos por dentro... El hambre de amor es mucho más difícil de llenar que el hambre de pan... Los verdaderos pobres sa-ben lo que es la alegría”. Cuando se le preguntó sobre sus planes para el futuro, ella respondió: “Solo tomo un día a la vez”. + “Proclamar la libertad a los cautivos” Esta declaración no solo se refiere a los prisioneros. Cada uno de nosotros tiene apegos y adicciones, que dificultan nuestra libertad de amar y servir a Dios y a los demás. Nos guste o no, somos cautivos de nuestro propio egoísmo. Dios desea liberarnos de estas tendencias y hábitos peca-minosos. + “Dar vista a los ciegos” A veces la riqueza, el honor y el poder nos pueden cegar nuestra verdadera identidad. Podemos tender a sentirnos autosuficientes, pensando que nuestro destino está solo en nuestras manos: Dios y los demás podrían volverse irrele-vantes. A veces podemos ser cegados por los deseos mun-danos y no ver cuál es realmente nuestra misión. Tenemos que permitir que Jesús abra nuestros ojos internos para observar qué es lo que nos impide ver nuestros defectos. Necesitamos la iluminación de Jesús para entender las ver-dades en nuestra vida. Es en estas situaciones que necesi-tamos más fe y creencia en Dios y dependencia del poder de Dios en lugar de tratar de resolver todo por nosotros mismos y luego fallar y culpar a Dios. + “Anunciar el año de misericordia del Señor” La misericordia y la compasión se pueden ver como los elementos centrales de la predicación de Jesús. Nuestro Dios es un Padre compasivo y misericordioso, por eso nos envió a Su Hijo para nuestra salvación. La misericordia de Dios está más allá de nuestro entendimiento. Así que la misión de Jesús realmente se centra en la misericordia que Él ha demostrado a lo largo de su ministerio público. Co-mo hijos de Dios y seguidores de Cristo, tenemos la res-ponsabilidad de ser compasivos y misericordiosos en nuestras interacciones diarias con los demás. Es bueno reflexionar sobre nuestra propia misión en esta vida y co-rregir cualquier área en la que no hayamos sido compasi-vos y misericordiosos. Proyecto “Sock drive” para las personas sin hogar: uno de los Boy Scouts hablara de esto en las misas.

Programa Parroquial de Asistencia para la Salud Men-tal de Bay Care: puede proporcionar consejería a los parroquianos. $5250 costo anual. Moción de Marie Colvin; Secundada por José Parrilla; todos aprobaron. El comité de finanzas también observara el programa.

Nuevos acontecimientos en Enero: Se darán confesio-nes antes de todas las misas. Habrá misa a las 6:30 pm el primer Viernes de cada mes con Adoración del Santísimo Sacramento hasta las 8:30 pm. El Santísimo Sacramento será guardado en el Tabernáculo todas las tardes a las 4:00 pm. Habrá una misa adicional de vigi-lia de Dia De Acción de Gracias (1 Ingles y 1 Español).

Vivir valientemente el Evangelio (Misión de la Dióce-sis): Necesitamos un grupo de trabajo para preparar el plan de la iglesia; el grupo consistirá en una persona de cada ministerio.

ECHO servirá la cena de Acción de Gracias en St. Francis.

Sistema de sonido: El equipo ha sido ordenado y se espera que este instalado para Navidad. Se han recau-dado $22,000.

Equipo de señales y anuncios: poner las señales para el estacionamiento/de discapacitados para arriba, cubrirá los anuncios existentes del estacionamiento para discapacitados, bloquear el portón trasero, blo-quear las 2 entradas delanteras, fijar la plataforma, fijar los conos del flujo de tráfico y la cinta de seguridad amarilla. 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
