Evolution.” Grant proposed to Brazil’s Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e
Tecnológico, (CNPq; English Translation: National Council for Scientific and Technological
Development) to create a national Institute of Science and Technology around Inter- and Trans-disciplinary ecological research in Brazil. Proposal approved by Brazilian government;
funding pending (2016). Specific focus within project: Bridging the gap between science and
practice in the environmental field and building a transformative education in ecology and
evolution. The whole effort will receive US $2,200,000 over six years (pending)

(www.biketempe.org), an organization that seeks to make bicycling a safe, prominent and
convenient form of transportation in Tempe, Arizona. I served on the Board of Directors for
three years, serving as Secretary and President. The annual operating budget at the time of my
involvement was approximately $20,000.
