DESCRIPTION

Here are the movies and special events we have for the month!

TRANSCRIPT

  • VERTIGO THEY LIVE

BLOOD AND BLACK LACE (1964)In this movie Mario Bava created one of the most influential films ever made an Italian classic that would spearhead the giallo genre, provide a prototype for the slasher movie, and have a huge effect on filmmakers as diverse as Dario Argento and Martin Scorsese. Newly restored from the original camera negative and presented here in its original, uncut Italian form, this screening will allow fans to see the movie afresh and offers newcomers the ideal introduction to a major piece of cult filmmaking.

Mondo + Chiller: THE HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL (1959)Featuring limited Mondo giveaways and Chiller surprises!

This film featured stars both on screen and off. Ever reliant Vin-cent Price stars in one of his most memorable roles, but the real star of the show is director William Castle and his promotional stunt Emergo, in which a plastic skeleton was flown over the audience in the theater during key moments of the film. His creativity and inventiveness took sometimes mediocre movies and made them genuine experiences. This experience is said to have inspired Alfred Hitchcock to make his own low budget horror film.... PSYCHO!

THE LAST NARUTO THE MOVIE (2014)The much loved series Naruto comes to an end. Presented in Japanese with English subtitles, the story picks up two years after the battle between Naruto and Sasuke, in the Village Hidden in the Leaves. Many questions will be answered and maybe our favorite outcast will find love.

Cartoon Cereal Party: Looney Tunes EditionGrab a kid or nine and show them the true meaning of hilarity as we assemble the greatest collection of classic Warner Brothers Looney Tunes ranging from the quackbusting ways of Donald Duck to one-off wild shorts featuring holes that teleport you through space and time. Well also provide you with, what can only be described as a horribly irresponsible amount of cereal for you to consume where the only limit to balancing your morning breakfast is yourself with an ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT cereal bar!

LOST SOUL: THE DOOMED JOURNEY OF RICH-ARD STANLEYS ISLAND OF DR. MOREAU (2014)David Gregory sorts through decades of rumors and myth to reveal the true behind-the-scenes story of the films troubled history. Many of the key players in the production, including Stanley, Robert Shaye, Edward R. Pressman, Fairuza Balk and members of Stan Winstons effects team, present their sides of the story. The interviews reveal that the film was plagued by produc-tion mishaps, warring egos, and numerous other problems, both large and small. It truly must be seen to be believed.

Hudson Horror Show: March Madness Triple Feature (35mm)When it comes to monsters, the bigger the better, so be pre-pared for the colossal onslaught that is THE GIANT SPIDER INVASION! Part giant monster movie and part 50s style sci-fi invasion, Wisconsins best arachnophobia assault movie is all fun, complete with VW Bugs masquerading as giant spiders.

At March Madness we will also celebrate the 35th anniversary of another lost classic, BLOOD BEACH. Just when you thought it was safe to go back to the water, you cant even get to it! Hard to believe that a barely seen, underground monster sucking people through the sand to their doom wasnt a bigger hit.

Last but certainly not least, well have one the most insane slasher films of all time, SLEEPAWAY CAMP! Filmed on location in upstate New York, SLEEPAWAY CAMP was a completely unique entry in the tired slasher genre is completely over the top and to this day still features arguably the greatest shock ending, ever.

March Madness will feature the usual trappings of a Hudson Horror Show, classic drive in trailers, trivia questions, giveaways, and of course, some vendors with assorted horror merchandise for sale.

ReelAbilities: MIMI AND DONA (2014)Followed by Q&A with director Sophie Sartain. All proceeds for this screening to be donated to Autism Speaks.

What happens when love runs out of time? For a 92-year-old mother, Mimi, who has cared for Dona, her daughter who has an intellectual disability, for 64 years, it means facing the inevitable: she will not outlive her daughter and must find her daughter a home. This poignant, heartbreaking and, at times, humorous documentary traces this process through the story of a wonder-fully quirky and deeply connected mother-daughter duo. The film spotlights the challenges of aging caregivers of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities some 4.6 million Americans, 75% of whom live at home with family and details the ripple effects of Donas disability on three generations of a Texas family.

    SPECIAL SCREENINGS SPECIAL SCREENINGS

A flirtatious romance begins to bloom between the two however, Evan soon realizes that Louise has been harboring a monstrous, primordial secret that puts both their relationship and their lives in jeopardy.

NIGHT OF THE COMET with Joe Bob Briggs (1984, 35mm).

Video Vortex: BLOOD MASSACRE (1991)Join hosts Matt Desiderio (Horror Boobs) and Mike Hunch-back (Seminal Psychosis) for your monthly dose of VHS only insanity. Bring your VHS tapes - well be set up to trade and sell some great stuff! This month we have Don Dohlers rare slasher that was years in the making.

Big Screen Classics: DR. NO (1962)On January 16, 1962, Connery stepped into 007s shoes for the first time and the movie world would never be the same. The first Bond film received a warm welcome from American moviegoers, who got to see Bonds memorable introduction at a chemin de fer table, as well as the agents first encounters with the ever-lovesick Moneypenny, the devilishly crafty designer M and his initial brush with SPECTRE. SPECTRE member Dr. No dwells in a private paradise on the island of Crab Key, where he is plotting to sabotage the American space program.

AGFA Presents: FIVE ELEMENT NINJAS (1982, 35mm)Director Chang Cheh puts on display the talents of Cheng Tien-chi in one of his most entertaining martial arts movies. When evil ninjas attack and kill students at a kung fu school, the lone survivor assembles a group to take revenge. What results is excessive, gruesome and awe-inspiring, with fight choreography sure to get your heart pumping.

Fangoria Presents: THE HITCHER (1986, 35mm)My mother told me never to do this. With one of the greatest opening lines in horror history, young Jim Halsey (C. Thomas Howell) opens the door of his drive-away car to John Ryder (Rutger Hauer), and so begins an odyssey of terror through the stark American Southwest. The remarkable feature debut of director Robert Harmon and screenwriter Eric Red, this film is a quintessential road-trip fear fest, as Ryder relentlessly pursues Jim down the desert highways...not to kill him, necessarily, but perhaps to draw the young man into his dark side.

Cinema Cocktails: MILLERS CROSSING (1990)This film blew onto the scene in 1990, despite critical success it was originally a financial letdown before finding its audience on home video. This film features some of the finest acting of its outstanding casts careers, breathtaking cinematography and the sharp, quirky dialogue weve come to expect from a Coen Brothers film. Double-crosses and manipulation are the name of the game in this masterful send up to bullet-riddled gangsters, smoking guns, and femme fatales. And if thats not enough well have Alamo Beverage Director, Bill Norris, on hand crafting us some custom cocktails to go with the film.

Kids Camp: THE NEVERENDING STORY (1984)The kingdom of Fantasia is about to be wiped out, and the enemy isnt an evil wizard or a thermonuclear device, its Nothingness. The only thing standing in the way is the faith of a small boy named Bastian (Barret Oliver). He discovers the kingdom in a magical bookstore, and as he begins to read the adventure between the covers, it becomes so real that the people in the story know about Bastian.

Monday Night Thread Up: POINT BREAK (1991, 35mm)For a film that goes through such feats of testosterone surf-ing, sky diving, playing football on the beach to be 100% Adrenaline, it is really about finding the perfect pair: partners, friends, lovers and two 2! meatball sandwiches. Kathryn Bigelow has made a career out of portraying masculinity in all of its grit, glamor and unrequited eroticism. This may not be the film that won her an Academy Award for Best Director, but it is her magnum opus of excess and quite possibly the best or only film ever made about surfing bank robbers that dress up as ex-presidents and only live to get radical.

Girlie Night: PRIDE AND PREJUDICE (2005)Two words: Mr. Darcy. Seriously, this description should just end there because WHAT MORE DO YOU NEED? What more does ANY woman need than the brooding, handsome, totally swoon-worthy Mr. Darcy? Ok, well, Pemberly doesnt hurt. Nor do all of the fancy balls and gorgeous dresses and romantic intrigue. Now, you may be one of those Austen purists who will only watch the BBC version with Colin Firth (which is, admittedly, a masterpiece). If so, I feel the need to point out that hello, did you miss the POINT of the story? Its not good to be prideful OR prejudiced! Give this 2005 version a chance.

Staff Picks: TAXI DRIVER (1976)Staff pick of Lio!

There has never been a more depraved antihero than Robert DeNiros Travis Bickle, the cab-driving sociopath with a gun fe-tish and a hatred for scum. Throughout the film, he stalks New York Citys 42nd Street district, catching matinee screenings of porno flicks and struggling to connect with another soul in the wretched insect-hive that was 70s Manhattan.

Vinegar Syndrome: THE TELEPHONE BOOK (1971)A major, forgotten comedic gem from New Yorks underground film scene of the early 1970s, THE TELEPHONE BOOK tells the story of Alice, a sex-obsessed hippie who falls in love with the worlds greatest obscene phone caller. Alices quest to find her dream lover introduces her to an avant-garde stag filmmaker, a manipulative psychiatrist, and a lesbian housewife. Orgies will be witnessed, the fourth wall will be broken, and bananas will be eaten -- erotically -- as this wild, wickedly smart satire tickles your funny bone and tests the limits of good taste.

TOUGH GUY CINEMA: THEY LIVE (1988, 35mm)You see them on the street. You Watch them on TV. You might even vote for one this fAll. You Think theyre people just like you. Youre wrong. Dead wrong. Rowdy Roddy Piper stars as a homeless drifter who stumbles aCross a box full of Hyper-advanced sunglasses that provide him with the sight to view skinless spacemen who are subliminally enslaving humans. If youve got a thing for WWF wrestlers acting, this movie is for you! If you like balls-out action and explosions, this movie is for you! If you appreciate social commentary and satire, well guess what Mr. Smarty Pants? You have to see this film!

BIG (1988)A young boy makes a wish at a carnival machine to be big. He wakes up the following morning to find that it has been granted and his body has grown older overnight. But he is still the same 12-year-old boy inside. Now he must learn how to cope with the unfamiliar world of grown-ups including getting a job and having his first romantic encounter with a woman. What will he find out about this strange world?

FACE/OFF (1997, 35mm)When notoriously slow peach-eater, Castor Troy (Nic Cage), ends up in a coma, and the only person who knows the location of a bomb that is set to destroy the City of Angels is Castors brother, eagle scout Sean (Travolta) is forced to undergo an emergency experimental surgery that will put his greatest en-emys face...on himself. Bullets whiz and doves fly. Grab a dead grandparent because this one is guaranteed to put the pulse back into even the most lifeless and joyless soul as Tough Guy Cinema prepares to take your FACE/OFF.

MY FAIR LADY (1964)Winner of eight Academy Awards, MY FAIR LADY stars the incandescent Audrey Hepburn as Eliza Doolittle and the debonair Rex Harrison (star of the original Broadway version) as Henry Higgins, the professor who tries to teach her to speak like a lady. This classic adaptation of the musical, based on George Bernard Shaws Pygmalion, sparkles with life and memorable music, and in spite of a little rain in Spain, youre guaranteed to walk out of the theater feeling absolutely loverly.

TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES Pizza Party (1990)Four sewer discarded turtles find themselves exposed to muta-genetic Ooze before being adopted and educated in the ways of Ninjitsu by a mutated all-knowing rat named Master Splinter. With their carefully honed craft and new-found size, these turtles aim to clean up the mean streets of New York City. But when their mentor is kidnapped by the evil Master Shredder, its up to Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo and Raphael to band together with the help of TV reporter April ONeil and masked vigilante Casey Jones to fight through the dreaded Foot Clan and reclaim their rat mentor. Celebrate all that is awesome at the Ultimate Ninja Turtles Pizza Party, featuring all-you-can-eat pizza and special secret of the ooze dessert!

TRANSFORMERS: THE MOVIE (1986, 35mm)The Autobots have successfully defended Earth from Megatron and his evil band of Decepticons, but they have lost the war at home on Cybertron. Heroes will rise, and evil will be reborn as a new threat in the form of the planet annihilator, Unicron, who sets his sights on Earth and the Autobot Matrix of Leader-ship. Hold on tight because the most incredible rock n roll adventure is here. Its the ultimate battle between Autobots and Decepticons as the final confrontation between Optimus Prime and Megatron brings the battle between good and evil to a whole new level. This movie is pure robot-fighting destruction between Dinobots, Junkions, Sharkticons, and robots THE SIZE OF PLANETS.

VERTIGO (1958)Although Hitchocks tale of murder and obsession is now hailed as a masterpiece that wasnt the case when it was first released in 1958, and its easy to see why. Filled with original ideas and bold choices and themes VERTIGO was, for lack of a better term, ahead of its time. Jimmy Stewart plays the films central figure, retired detective Scottie Ferguson and his performance is a brilliant mix of contained internal struggle and showy melodrama. Matching Stewarts crazily perfect and bizarre turn is the gorgeous Kim Novak, who tackles the tricky role of Scot-ties love interest. The great Saul Bass contributes mesmerizing title sequences along with a trippy dream sequence and Bernard Hermanns score is beautiful, chilling and timeless.

CLUE Quote-Along (1985)Youve done it in the library. Youve done it in the dining room. Youve even done it with a candlestick in the kitchen. Thats right, at one time or another, weve all killed Mr. Body. And for this months quote-along, were celebrating our murderous ways with CLUE, the hilarious film adaptation of the board game.

Weve subtitled all of your favorite lines, so you can quip along with Wadsworth (Tim Curry), scream along with Mrs. Peacock (Eileen Brennan), and feel the flames on the side of your face with Mrs. White (Madeline Kahn). We wont be handing out ropes or lead pipes, but we will be giving you props (including CLUE cards, of course) to intensify your evening at Mr. Bodys manor. Whether youve seen this movie a thousand times or never before, its no mystery that youll have a ridiculously fun night. And remember, Communism was just a red herring.

ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW Sing-Along (1975)Produced for the London stage in 1973, THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW was Richard OBriens musical tribute to B-movies, sci-fi, 50s rock, and Hammer Horror, as filtered through the transgressive and camp attitudes rock-opera and punk. A huge success, the play caught the attention of 20th Century Fox, who fast-tracked a low-budget theatrical adapta-tion. Featuring most of the creative team and cast of the original production including Tim Curry reviving his much acclaimed performance THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW was a flop when originally released in September 1975. Now, at long last, the anitici.....pation is over! As the cult of Rocky Hor-ror approaches its fourth decade, the Action Packs twenty-first century celebration of the daddy (and mommy) of interactive movies has incorporated new breakthroughs, elusive ingredi-ents, and that...SPARK!, which will make the RHPS experience better than ever!

With thrilling props, the most outrageous callbacks, boisterous singing along, and stimulating pre-show games, we want these events to be your ultimate ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW whether this is your 1st or 500th time
