EDlTORS MAILBOX Dear Sis

I write to support previous letters cmcemiq corrpulsory inhc- duction of 1 a loads, and for the many shooters who attend our club (Walmer) who oppme such inhoductim

Lf this bemmes law, there will be many shooters leave ACTA to become members of other shocting oqanbtions. Let the few hot shotsdoastheywill, butleavethemanyo!hemalone.

This item should be the shootem choice. Make it optional Keep everyone happy - the very few who travel overseas, and the thousds who just enjoy their days sport at their local club with their mates. Mthout the majority of averageshooters support, there would benoclubs, nor ACfkIt isinhoduciionsofthisnaturethat aredriving shooters away which we cm illafiord to do. Reoonsider this decision for the benefit of our sport.

Dear Sir -.- -- On behalf of the members of Noarlunga City Gun Club Inc it is with

regret that I advise that a -on has been made to close our club due to the fact that we have beenunable to locate new club grounds. I would like to take tttis m t y to exprem the club's appreciation to all shwters bdh from South Aushalia and intentae who have

Dear Sis After reading the write up on the shoot at Internahml Gun Club

on page 8 February CISN, I would like to point out a matter that is not correct, it c o ~ c ~ l s event 2 Sunday 20th -The Handicap.

The article states that four shooters shot a pmsible. each of them losing a metre in the process; this would be possible if the event was held ondifferent meterages, ie.: 11-15,16-18,lS-21,2225 and each shcoter was in a different w p . This was not the case as the article tells that the event was paid lst, Znd, 3rd in this case only the first and second shooter shoukl have been penalised, unless all four shooters had shot 5M straight from their ACTA handicap marks.

Inahandicapwherepladngsare 1st 2n43rdonly lst&2ndwould receive a metre providing they bath have shot a possible, if no possibles and 50 straight have not been shot only 1st place would receive a metre. North East Zone bndkapper Ron wl ley

WOMEN IN COACHING

by M m y AIexaader National Director Coaching

There is a general concern in Australia and other western countries about the dearth of female coaches involved in sport Coaching is often a male domain especially at the elite Level of sport where even female teams gemrally seem to be guided by the men The females who do commit themselves to coaching appear to remain in the role for less time and subseauentlv have f&r&pirations for moving into

One of the masons for women having less involvement with . . adnunmation and coaching is that within spoating organisations the ~rooor!ion of women with wwer and intluence is much smaller than heinamber of women &dipants would wanant. A second reason WMlld annear to be those com!mhts awxkted with the exwcted - .~=-~ - ~- ~~

female role. For e m p l e , women are often reatrided to &based adivilies rhla to chld care and home resmnsjbilities and therefore --- .- ~ - - ' ~ - ~ ~~~~~~

have less opporhmity for recreational activities. simple t e r n , women often feel that they need to Leave coaching to spend more time with the family and fiends. Culhual and prevailing no- additionallv widen h s e in-es with males having greater ent i lheni to oppalmity and money for leisure activities

The above are possibly major reasons as to why women have not lab^ a more active role in coaching within our sport. Another reason found is the image of shotguns and theii use being perceived as a male olientated sport. These days the haniers are slowly being broken down, but that is due to the concept of our coaches and technology, by presenting a softer feel with regard to the m i l and noise associated with firearms.

We have now a few qualified female cmches at Level 1, even less at level 2, but it appssrs, hecause of such a small number of shwters presently in this particula~ area, our ladies seem reluctant to undertake the h w l e d a e of cmchino. We as shooters, have to ~~~~~ ~

attempt to coerce more f&tales, wheth& family, fiends or strangers into the sport by b d i n g their pssible idaid fears in relation to noise, recoil weight of firearms, and in particular the firearm itself.

If ure are able to successfullv achieve a bredkina down of these - . . - - ~~~~~~ ~~ ~~~

phobias and maternal respo&ilihes, then as time goes on, females will have greater representation alongside the males in the shooting and coaching fields. Thereby promoting and advertising this sport in a more open m e r

The ACT& through its coaching system is keen to pwsue this subject and invite wmment from those interested with emphasis on input from female members.
