What If? Each week posted on the West Virginia Annual Conference website are videos where Dr. Barry Steiner Ball speaks with different people across the West Virginia Conference whose lives have been affected by substance use disorder. With the video is a brief statement which includes a reflection and questions for discussion. The first video is an interview with Bishop Sandra Steiner Ball. In this video, Bishop Sandra shares her personal reflections regarding her brother's struggles with alcoholism. Go to wvumc.org and click on “What If?” Pecans & Spring Festival: Pecans and chocolate pecans are available for $10.00 during office hours. Also, for applications to have a space for the Spring Festival (March 24), contact Karen Lilly, 304-562-9241 or the church office. The crafts and books will be in the gym, and eggs and food will be in the fellowship hall. On behalf of Bishop Steiner Ball and her Cabinet, the Annual Conference Evangelism, Congregational Development and Communications Teams, I would like to express our gratitude for the gracious hospitality extended to our conference when you hosted our Membership to Discipleship training event on February 10, 2018. You made it possible for us to create this first-ever live streaming training event that was sent to 9 other locations around the conference. The food was delicious. The quilts were lovely. Your parking attendants braved the weather to get everyone in the right spots. Everyone had a smile and a willingness to guide and direct our participants where they needed to go. Your staff and volunteers went above and beyond to make this all possible. Thank you so much for sharing with such grace and kindness. It is much appreciated. With thankfulness, Rev. Amy Shanholtzer, Director of Evangelism and Congregational Development Christian sympathy is extended to: Dwight & Becky Williams upon the death of his father Doug Williams, Flatwoods, KY, and their son Matt Williams, Barboursville; and to Jo Anne Bearden, sister of Linda Wagner, and family upon the death of her daughter Stephanie Rosenberg (32), Sacramento, CA. THE MISSION OF FORREST BURDETTE U.M.C. Minister to people where they are Strengthen and empower disciples

on the journey Glorify God in all things

February is Black History Month. Did you

know that: Carter G. Woodson (1875-1950)

was one of the leading educators of the 20th

century. He was a former West Virginia coal

miner and a former resident of Huntington,

where he graduated from Douglass High

School in 1897 and served as the school’s

principal from 1900 to 1903. Woodson was the

second African American student to receive a

Ph.D. in history at Harvard and the first person

whose parents were former slaves to earn a

doctorate in history from any institution. Before

integration, McKinley Middle School in St.

Albans was named Carter G. Woodson High

School. At Marshall University, the Carter G.

Woodson Chair of Journalism and Mass

Communications is in his honor.

“Jesus was among the wild animals,

and the angels took care of him.” Mark 1:13b
