Band News The Performance and Concert Bands have been busy this last week. Following UNSW last Sunday, we had a performance from the Concert Band at the NSSWE Spring Music Festival at the Concourse Chatswood and last night the Performance Band braved the crazy weather to perform at the Arts Alive, Coorong Concert at Town Hall. Congratulations to Penny and both bands for your outstanding performances. A special thanks to the Performance Band musicians who also supported the Concert Band at the Concourse – THANK YOU.

Next term will be a busy one – next week we will post important dates for your diary.

Reminders have been sent to all of those who have not yet settled their Semester Accounts. Please make payment this week. If you have concerns or queries about your invoice please contact Nicole Macnicol at [email protected] or 0400 401 650.

Kitchen Garden

Year 4

This week, Year 4 are doing garden jobs (if the weather holds!) and garden-related craft activities.

Year 2

Last week, Year 2 had their second lesson in the science unit, "Watch it Grow", in the outdoor classroom. They observed the change in season from Winter at their last visit to Spring now, and the growth and change that has occurred in the Kitchen Garden as a result. Unfortunately our sunflower seeds have not germinated so we planted some more.

Carnival Sustainability Initiatives

For the first time at a Carnival we are going to have one central waste station, with recycling and composting as well as rubbish (landfill) bins. Please bring all waste to the waste station and help us reduce what we send to landfill. Please also help us by BYO coffee cup, water bottle and reusable bags for all your purchases. The children have been working hard to make t-shirt bags out of the donated t-shirts, in case you forget to bring your own. These will be given away free at the White Elephant, Book and Kitchen Garden stall.

Waste Station Volunteers

We still need a few people to help at the waste station on Carnival Day on Saturday. If you have an hour to spare we'd love to hear from you. This is IN ADDITION TO any other commitments you might have helping out on other stalls. Older students (Years 3-6) are allowed to help as roving collectors if their parent is rostered on at the waste station at the same time. Please email me [email protected] if you can help.

Thrive, the Kitchen Garden cookbook

The cookbook will be available for sale at the KG stall at Carnival for the special price of $35 each.

Diary Date - Whole School Working Bee

Term 4, Saturday November 2nd 2-5pm, more details to follow.

Manly West Before and After School Care (BASC)

STEAM ROOM

Week 9 in the STEAM room is all about celebrating and participating in the community that is Manly West, as well as supporting children's voice in the wider community. Brooklyn (Yr. 3) recently told educators that one of the things she likes best at the STEAM room is the opportunities to work together and engage in teamwork. STEAMERS will be engaging in a range of individual and collaborative arts and crafts practices, creating origami cranes, butterflies as well as bunting from recycled books to decorate the carnivals story corner, as well as artworks that showcase the creativity of our students. To support children's voice on climate change and caring for the environment, students will also have the opportunity to create placards inspired by Greta Thunberg and school climate strikers. Baxter (Yr. 4) looks forward to spending time with friends and exciting activities in the STEAM room. We look forward to harnessing and sharing the children's excitement during carnival week and showcasing a snapshot of what they get up to on the day.

Meet our Educators

Hi, I’m Archer!

“I’ve been working at BASC for 2 and a half years and am currently studying design. You’ll find me in both 3/4 BSC and 5/6 room ASC where I enjoy interacting, setting challenges and teaching the children new skills. I

attended Manly West as a student, and my favourite memories are the peddlars parade and athletics carnival.”
