Learning with a view...to the future.

Dear Parents, Carers and Friends,

Staffing updates. Most of you would be aware that Rainer and Jess will soon be welcoming their first child. When Rainer takes Family Leave Sarah Myles will be teaching Grade P/1. Sarah is a regular relief teacher at our school and knows our P/1 students and their routines. Paul Allen will be teaching Grade 5/6 on Thursdays and Fridays for the rest of the term. Our school has a School Review in Term 3 and there is a great deal of documentation that needs to be prepared prior to the review, to get that work done I am going to need more time in the office.

School dentist visit. The mobile school dentist will be visiting our school on Monday 20th May. If you would like your child to be seen by the visiting dentist please complete the permission form that is going home next week and return the form by Friday 17th. You can visit https://mobileschooldentist.com.au/ to find out more about the service.

School Nurse Visit Trina Douglas (Ph: 0408 177 814), our Primary School Nurse, will be visiting our school on June 11th. Referrals (All Grades): Parents and/or teachers may refer children from any grade for assessments of vision, hearing, basic speech, toileting problems, general health or any parental concerns. Please sign a referral form at the school office. Children cannot be seen without a signed consent from a parent or guardian. There is no cost for the service. Trina can be contacted at any time throughout the year.

Malmsbury PS OSHC! Rain has kept us inside a bit this week. We have made a few rounds of cheese toasties, played lots of board

games, played with Lego, cars and ponies inside. Again the students have diverted somewhat from the pro-

gram and chosen activities that interest them. I am always happy to accommodate their interests and de-

sires whenever possible.

It has been great to watch the students negotiate with each other in their play, deal kindly with difficult be-

haviour and be inclusive of others.

A random auditing visit by Melissa from the Education Department was a bit of a thrill! Despite the noisy

energy of the students on another rainy day, Melissa and I were able to talk about our OSHC, how it is going

and areas to work on. She was overall very happy with the operation of our OSHC.

We have purchased a scrapbook that will reflect our activities and learning throughout the week. All stu-

dents will be involved in this reflection and parents will be able to browse through the photos and com-

ments at pick-up time. I have also started to record brief notes about student development which will be

available to parents upon request. I do try to mention any relevant achievements or issues to parents at

pick-up time.

From Louise.

We are proud and excited to have some of our students participating in the 2019 Victorian State Schools Spec-tacular: Made of Stars The Spectacular brings together government school communities from across Victoria. Fittingly, this year’s theme, Made of Stars, will feature a galaxy of out-of-this-world performances showing that these students are made of star stuff. The three-hour live show – involving music, dance, skateboarding and circus arts – will be performed to an audience of around 12,000 people at Melbourne Arena on Saturday 14 September over two shows at 1pm and 6:30pm. Talented Victorian students will feature on stage, while many other students will work behind the scenes, gain-ing unique, on-the-job, professional experience. The Spectacular is a creative vision of industry profes-sionals including Creative Director Neill Gladwin, Musi-cal Director Chong Lim AM, Dance Director Deon Nuku, (Scooby Doo, Happy Feet, Moulin Rouge) and Associate Dance Director Yvette Lee, (Dancing with the Stars, X-Factor Australia, Australia’s Got Talent and So You Think You Can Dance). For a fun, family entertainment experience, and to cheer on our students from the audience, be quick to secure tickets when they go on sale at 9am Wednesday 12 June via www.ticketek.com.au/spectacular Adult: $40 Child Under 15: $20 Concession: $30 Buy 10 tickets and get one adult ticket free (the 11th ticket is free) by calling Group Bookings on 1300 364 001.
