Maidin mhaith cailíní, an bhfuil sibh go maith? I hope you are all well. I must say, I am missing my

little girls ALOT and cannot wait to be back in the classroom with all of you! I hope you are having

lots of fun with your families and I am really looking forward to hearing all about what you got up to!

Parents, the following is some suggested work that you can do with the girls, it is based on the

curriculum and what we would have been doing in the classroom. Parents and children are under no

obligation to get through all of this work. My email is [email protected] and I am here to

support you in any way. I would also love to hear from the girls and they can share their

news/stories/homework etc. with me. Ag súil go mbeidh muid ar ais arís le chéile, i mbarr shlainte, gan

mhoill.

Monday 30th March

Jolly Phonics – th (We touched on this before closing)

Below is an image taken from the Jolly Phonics Programme. We usually begin by listening to the

sound’s story.

Here is the story that you may like to read to your child: “Matthew and Nathan have gone to the

circus. The ringmaster opens the circus and introduces the acts. First there is a juggler, throwing

three rings high into the air. Then two naughty clowns throw water at the ringmaster. He tells them

off, and then goes to change his clothes. One clown, a thin fellow, is rather rude, and he sticks his

tongue out at the ringmaster, but only a little way. “th, th, th,” he goes. The other clown, who is

much bigger, is VERY rude and sticks his tongue right out. “thth, thth, thththth!” he goes. Then the

clowns chase one another around the big top and tickle each other with a feather. Everyone laughs at

them”.

Please talk about the picture with your child – do they notice any words that begin/ have a th sound.

Action for th sound – Pretend to be a rude clown and stick your tongue out a little to say th (as in

them), and further out to say th (as in thumb).

Ask your child to write down as many words with th as possible. (eg: thumb/ feather)

Maths

Before we closed, we were concentrating on the number 9.

o Teach your child to sing the number rhyme ‘Nine green bottles sitting on the wall’.

o Practise writing the number 9 on a piece of paper.

o Make a simple clothesline by placing a piece of string between two chairs or by using

Blu-Tack to hold the string in place across the kitchen table/wall. Give your child some

clothes pegs and ask him/her to place nine clothes pegs on the clothesline. Ask your

child to count as the pegs are placed on the line. When four/ five pegs are on the line,

ask questions, such as: How many pegs are on the line now? If we put two more pegs on,

how many are there on the line then?

o Complete page 26 in Home/School Links Busy at Maths books.

News

Encourage your child to write their news. Try to use the format that the class are used to, e.g. Today

is _____ .(day of the week, e.g. Monday) It is a _____ day. (Describe the weather, e.g.

sunny, cold, cloudy, warm, dry, rainy, foggy, frosty, etc. We are still out of school. Encourage

your child to read the sentences before writing them. Once these sentences are written, encourage

your child to write a further 2-3 sentences of their own independently. Ps: It would be great to see

your child’s news but only if possible.. You could take a photograph of their work and email it to me as

an attachment!!

Tips for when writing:

Write on the line

Space between each word

Remember the tall letters and the letters that go under the line like b d l and g j p etc.

Check for capital letters at beginning of a sentence, days of the week, months, person’s name

etc.

Full stops at the end of each sentence.

Gaeilge

We use Abair Liom B in class. Parents have access to Abair Liom online. Please follow the link to

access the website. https://www.folensonline.ie/registration/?r=t Enter Prim20 as the schools roll

number. Please look for Ceacht 23 (Lesson 23 – An Cháisc (Easter)) Listen to the story with your

child!

I understand that many parents don’t have Gaeilge but your child should be very familiar with the

resources on this website! I have attached the new vocabulary flashcards as a separate document.

Ask your child what the pictures are in Irish. If you have a problem with this, please email me and I

will send you a recording of the words in Irish. www.focloir.ie is also good website for translating and

pronouncing vocabulary.
