two souls of human architecture. As inspiration for its creations,

LappataRIFLESSO BRILLANTE. Definiamo con questo termine una spazzolatura spinta, eseguita con spazzole al carburo, meno dure di quelle diamantate. Non quindi il taglio vivo della superficie, tipico della levigatura, ma un ammorbidimento di essa che genera un riflesso brillante.

GLOSSY REFLECTION. This terms defines vigorous brushing, performed using carbide brushes, which are softer than diamond ones. The surface has a softness that creates a glossy reflection, rather than the 'raw cut' of polishing.

REFLET BRILLANT. Nous définissons par ce terme un brossage extrême, effectué au moyen de brosses au carbure, moins dures que celles diamantées. Il ne s’agit donc plus d’une découpe au vif de la surface, typique du polissage, mais plutôt d’un adoucissement de ce dernier, qui génère un reflet brillant.

GLANZEFFEKT. Mit diesem Ausdruck bezeichnen wir ein kräftiges Bürstverfahren mit Hartmetallbürsten, die nicht so hart sind wie Diamantbürsten. Also nicht der scharfe, für das Honen typische Schnitt der Oberfläche, sondern ein weicheres Honen, das den glanzeffekt erzeugt.

LuxEFFETTO LUCIDO-OPACO. Mole diamantate di grana medio-fine agiscono sulla superficie tagliando la sommità delle microscopiche creste lasciate dal tampone in resina. Si ottiene così l’inconfondibile effetto lucido-opaco dove il taglio della cresta risulta lucidato e le depressioni restano opache.

GLOSSY-MATT EFFECT. Medium to fine grain diamond discs act on the surface to smoothen the microscopic crests left by the resin punch. This is how we obtain the unique glossy-matt effect, where the cut crests are glossy and the hollows between are matt.

EFFET BRILLANT-MAT. Des meules diamantées à granulométrie moyenne et fine agissent sur la surface en découpant le sommet des crêtes microscopiques laissées par le tampon en résine. On obtient ainsi un effet brillant-mat unique en son genre: brillant aux endroits où la crête a été découpée et mat au niveau des creux.

GLÄNZEND-MATTE EFFEKT. Diamantschleifscheiben mit mittlerer bis feiner Körnung bearbeiten die Oberfläche und schleifen die Spitze der von den Harzstempeln hinterlassenen mikroskopischen Grate ab. So wird der unverkennbare Glänzend-Matte effekt erzeugt, denn die abgeschliffenen Spitzen werden poliert und die Vertiefungen bleiben matt.

A differenza della resina, l’acciaio non presenta alcuna porosità a livello microscopico. Questa caratteristica, unita alla forza di compressione della pressa, elimina dalla superficie della piastrella la minima asperità, rendendo la finitura naturale della collezione Elegance così unica e inimitabile.

PERFECTLY SMOOTH. This perfectly smooth stone is obtained by means of a steel punch. Unlike resin, steel has no porosity on a microscopic level. This characteristic, combined with compression force of the press, eliminates any roughness from the surface of the tile. The natural finish of the Elegance collection hence gains its unique and inimitable appearance.

PARFAITEMENT LISSE. Cette surface parfaitement lisse est obtenue par l’utilisation d’un tampon en acier. Contrairement à la résine, l’acier ne présente aucune porosité au niveau microscopique. Cette caractéristique, combinée à la force de compression de la presse, élimine toute aspérité de la surface du carreau, ce qui rend la finition naturelle de la collection Elegance si unique et inimitable.

SilkEFFETTO SETA. Spazzole al carburo di silicio a grana mista (meno abrasive di quelle diamantate) agiscono sulla speciale miscela di minerali nobili applicati in superficie. Il risultato è il caratteristico effetto seta che dà il nome a questa finitura.

SILK EFFECT. Silicon carbide brushes with different grain sizes (less abrasive than diamond brushes) work on the special mixture of noble minerals applied to the surface. The result is the typical silk effect that gives the name to this finish.

EFFET SOYEUX. Des brosses au carbure de silicium à granulométrie mixte (moins abrasives que les brosses diamantées) agissent sur le mélange spécial de minéraux nobles appliqués sur la surface. Le résultat est un effet soyeux caractéristique comme l’indique le nom de cette finition.

SEIDENEFFEKT. Karborund-Schleifbürsten mit gemischter Körnung (weniger reibfähig als Diamantbürsten) wirken auf die Spezialmischung edler Mineralien an der Oberfläche. Das Ergebnis ist der charakteristische Seideneffekt, der dieser Ausführung ihren Namen verleiht.

LuxINCONFONDIBILE EFFETTO LUCIDO-OPACO. Per ottenere questa finitura, mole diamantate di grana medio-fine agiscono con energia sulla superficie della piastrella tagliando la sommità delle microscopiche creste lasciate dalla pressatura. Si ottiene così l’inconfondibile effetto lucido-opaco dove il taglio della cresta risulta lucido e le depressioni opache. Questo tipo di lavorazione risulta più accentuata sul porcellanato ceramico ultrasottile Kerlite che sul gres porcellanato spessorato ma è comunque ben diversa da una levigatura.

UNIQUE GLOSSY-MATT EFFECT. To obtain this finish, medium to fine grain diamond discs act on the surface of the tile to smoothen the microscopic crests left by the press. This is how we obtain the unique glossy-matt effect, where the cut crests are glossy and the hollows between are matt. This type of process is particularly visible on Kerlite ultrathin ceramic stoneware and also on extra thick porcelain stoneware. It however differs from polishing.

EFFET BRILLANT-MAT UNIQUE. Cette finition est obtenue par l’action énergique, sur la surface des carreaux, des meules diamantées à granulométrie moyenne et fine qui découpent le sommet des crêtes microscopiques laissées par le pressage. On obtient ainsi un effet brillant-mat unique en son genre : brillant aux endroits où la crête a été découpée et mat au niveau des creux. Cet usinage est plus accentué sur le grès cérame ultrafin Kerlite que sur le grès cérame à épaisseur majorée mais diffère totalement du polissage.

GLÄNZEND-MATTE EFFEKT. Diamantschleifscheiben mit mittlerer bis feiner Körnung bearbeiten die Oberfläche der Fliesen energisch und schleifen die Spitze der vom Pressverfahren hinterlassenen mikroskopischen Grate ab. So entsteht der unverkennbare, Glänzend-Matte effekt, denn die abgeschliffenen Spitzen werden poliert und die Vertiefungen bleiben matt. Diese Art der Behandlung ist auf dem ultradünnen keramischen Feinsteinzeug Kerlite markanter als auf extrastarkem Feinsteinzeug, ist aber in jedem Fall ganz anders als das Honen.

A resin die simulates the effect of bush-hammering, a finish that is offered for nearly all natural stones. It is particularly appreciated for exterior use as the texture increases non-slip properties.

Une matrice en résine simule l’effet du martelage de la surface une finition proposée dans presque toutes les pierres naturelles et très appréciée en cas d’utilisation en extérieur, qui en augmente considérablement le degré de résistance à la glissance.

GripPAVIMENTAZIONI ESTERNE. Ottenuta tramite l’impiego di un tampone in resina, questa superficie è espressamente pensata per le pavimentazioni esterne. Si ispira a una lavorazione effettuata sulla vera pietra con una sega ad aria compressa. I solchi lasciati dai denti della sega sono paralleli al bordo della piastrella e leggermente intrecciati.

EXTERIOR FLOORS. Produced using a resin punch, this surface has been especially designed for exterior floors. It has been inspired by a process performed on real stone with a pneumatic saw. The furrows left by the teeth of the saw are parallel to the edge of the tile and slightly interwoven.

CARRELAGES D’EXTERIEUR. Obtenue moyennant l’utilisation d’un tampon en résine, cette surface a été spécialement conçue pour les carrelages d’exterieur. Elle s’inspire de la vraie pierre travaillée au moyen d’une scie à air comprimé. Les sillons que forment les dents de la scie sont parallèles au bord du carreau et s’entrecroisent légèrement.

BÖDEN IN AUßENBEREICHEN. Diese Oberfläche, die mit einem Harzstempel erzeugt wird, ist ausdrücklich für böden in außenbereichen konzipiert. Sie inspiriert sich an einer Bearbeitung, die mit einer Druckluftsäge auf dem Naturstein erfolgt. Die Furchen, die von den Sägezähnen gebildet werden, verlaufen parallel zur Fliesenkante und sind leicht ineinander gekreuzt.

PatinataQuesto tipo di lappatura combina l’uso di mole e spazzole diamantate. Il risultato è una superficie morbida dall’elegante riflesso ceroso. Attraverso uno speciale procedimento brevettato da Cotto d’Este, la serie Stonequartz Patinata subisce, tra la pressatura e la decorazione, una ulteriore levigatura a crudo.

This surface treatment combines the use of diamond discs and brushes. The result is a soft and elegant surface with waxy reflections. By means of a special procedure, patented by Cotto d’Este, the Stonequartz Patinata series undergoes, between pressing and decorating, a further honing treatment. Ce type de polissage combine l’utilisation de meules et de brosses diamantées. Le résultat est une surface douce au doux reflet cireux. Par le biais d'un procédé special breveté par Cotto d’Este la série Stonequartz Patinata subit, entre le pressage et la décoration, un autre polissage à cru.

Für diese Art von Läppung werden Diamantschleifscheiben und Diamantbürstensatz verwendet. Das Ergebnis ist eine weich wirkende Oberfläche mit elegantem Wachseffekt. In Einem speziellen, von Cotto d’Este patentierten Verfahren wird die Serie Stonequartz Patinata zwischen der Pressung und der Dekoration im Rohzustand einem zusätzlichen Honverfahren unterzogen.

Questa superficie così unica e riconoscibile è fedelmente ottenuta da calchi ricavati da pietre naturali. La fiammatura è una lavorazione possibile solo su alcune pietre dalle caratteristiche idonee (come i graniti, che contengono elevate quantità di quarzo), la cui superficie viene investita da un getto di fiamma viva a elevate temperature e subito dopo raffreddate ad acqua. Lo shock termico provoca la dilatazione della pietra e la conseguente rugosità tipica di questa finitura.

This unique and recognisable surface has been faithfully created using molds from natural stones. Flash effect texturing can only be performed on certain types of stone (granite, for instance, that has a high content of quartz). It consists of singeing the surface of the stone with a flame jet and then plunging the stone into water to obtain immediate cooling. The abrupt temperature change makes the stone expand and the result is a typically rough texture.

Cette surface, unique et typique, est le résultat fidèle de l’utilisation des matrices de pierres naturelles. Le flammage ne peut être réalisé que sur certaines pierres dotées de caractéristiques spécifiques (telles que les granits très riches en quartz), dont la surface est soumise à un jet de flammes vives à très hautes températures puis immédiatement refroidie à l’eau. Le choc thermique provoque la dilatation de la pierre en conférant la rugosité typique de cette finition.

Diese wirklich einzigartige und erkennbare Oberfläche wird durch dem Abdruck von Natursteine getreu erzeugt. Die Flammung ist eine Bearbeitung, die nur auf einigen Steinen mit passenden Eigenschaften möglich ist (wie die Granite, die hohe Quarzmengen enthalten); ihre Oberfläche wird dabei mit einem offenen Flammenstrahl mit hohen Temperaturen behandelt und gleich danach mit Wasser abgekühlt. Der Temperaturschock verursacht die Ausdehnung des Gesteins und demzufolge die typische Rauhigkeit dieser Bearbeitung.
