Friday morning L. F. Severy drove up to Morgan & Smith's store with thoir delivery wagon, and stooped into the store a moment, leaving Martin Barber's daughter in the wagon. The horse, which had not been hitched, became frinlitened at Miss Barber's parasol and ran for home, but was stopped near the creek, on Mam street. Dikh—At the homo of his son, J. S, Dcntols, in Vergennes. Thursday morning, June 13, 1880, in his 71lin year, Thompson I. Daniels. Thompson 1. Daniels was born in West-

moreland, N. H , July 10, 1810. In 1888 he came and settled in Vergennes. whore he hewed himself a home out of the forest, and followed tho avocation of a fanner until 18'i3, when ho was elected Treasurer of Kent County, and moved to Grand Rapids. He served in that capacity for eight vears, and in 1^00 returned to the homestead. Ik-was always a staunch republican and loyal to the cause of liberty aud the Union, and besides allowing his two sons, John S. and Jerome T., who were then 15 and 10 years ot ago,rospectlvely, lo enlist in their country's couso, he was very enthusiastic in raisiiiK iroo|M for the army. He was a man always to bo trnsied. and many wore iho soldiers who, when they left for the war. entrusted their elTecls to his care; and never was a trust betrayed by him. A widow, and two sons, abovo named, remain to mourn his departure. Tho funeral was held at the home of J. S. Daniels, In Vergennes, Satimlav after-noon, Rev. J. T. Husted ofliciating. Thus ono more of our well-known and once sturdy pioneers has passed away.
