Action Briefs Answers to Questions about Signing Tickets Results from your state agencies: www.resultsiowa.org Take a Chance! Iowa’s Million Dollar Raffle Offers Huge Top Prize Iowa Lottery players could win up to $1 million playing Iowa’s Million Dollar Raffle! Beginning April 13, clerks may sell raffle tickets from the lottery terminal with a unique, eight-digit number. The Iowa Lottery will sell only 120,000 $20 raffle tickets for a chance at a $1 million prize. Raffle players also will have a chance to win other prizes: one $100,000 prize, 10 $5,000 prizes and 100 $500 prizes also will be awarded. Tickets for Iowa’s Million Dollar Raffle are scheduled to be on sale through June 14, but sales may end sooner if the 120,000 tickets sell out before that date. How To Sell a Raffle Ticket To sell a raffle ticket: Touch the “Iowa’s Million Dollar Raffle” icon on the main screen of the Extrema terminal (see graphic above). Choose how many tickets to print, or “NONE” to cancel the transaction (see graphic at left). Confirm the purchase with the player. Touch “PRINT” to print the ticket or “CANCEL” to cancel the transaction. Important Notes: Once printed, tickets may not be cancelled. If a clerk prints a raffle ticket in error, it may be resold to another player. Players may not choose a raffle number, the terminal will assign the next consecutive number to each ticket. On March 15, the Iowa Lottery enhanced its Player Security program by requiring players to sign the backs of lottery tickets before they can be checked or cashed by an Iowa Lottery retailer. Since its start in 1985, the Iowa Lottery has always suggested players sign any lottery ticket they purchased, but signatures were only required for tickets that won prizes of more than $600. Now, the signature requirement applies to all lottery tickets, not just those winning big prizes. As players and retailers alike adjust to the procedure, some common questions have arisen. What happens if a player signs with a fake name? Players signing lottery tickets with fake names are putting their prizes at risk. The name on the back of the lottery ticket designates the rightful owner of the ticket. I’m worried about identity theft. What happens to the tickets that have my name on them? All nonwinning lottery tickets must be given back to the customer for them to destroy. Winning lottery tickets will be accounted for and then properly discarded by the retailer. The only information required on the lottery ticket is a player’s signature, nothing else. Consider how many times players use a debit card and sign receipts during a day. This is no different. Is the Iowa Lottery tallying up my smaller win- nings so the government can tax me later? It is business as usual at the Iowa Lottery. The Lottery is not keeping a tally of prizes on indi- viduals who win $600 or less. However, if a player wins more than $600 on one ticket, the prize must be claimed at a lottery office and a claim form must be filled out. Players winning more than $600 on one ticket will receive a W-2G form at the end of the calendar year. Continued on Page 2 Lottery The second screen asks how many raffle tickets the clerk would like to sell and gives them a chance to cancel the transaction. To sell a raffle ticket, simply touch the “Iowa’s Million Dollar Raffle” icon on the right-hand side of the main screen to get started. VOL. 15, #7 April 7 - 20, 2008

Iowa’s Million Dollar Raffle Offers Huge Top Prize ‘You’ve Got a Deal, Howie!’

Marlene Henning of Leland looks forward to seeing Howie Mandel in person when she visits Hollywood, Calif., in April. Henning won one of the three trips to Hollywood the lottery awarded in February in its first Deal or No Deal second-chance drawing. Henning is shown here with a life-size cardboard stand-up of Mandel. Each trip winner will get an opportunity to win cash or play the Deal or No Deal™ game show with Mandel. Players may enter through Aug. 24 at ialottery.com to win a $1 million prize in a September Deal or No Deal second-chance drawing.

Play by peeling apart the five tabs located on the back of the ticket. Three symbols are printed under each tab. Check all five tab areas. If three consecutive symbols printed vertically or diagonally under any of the tabs match identi-cally any of the winning combinations shown on the ticket front, the player wins the cor-responding prize. The arrow connecting the symbols indicates a winner.

If a ticket is mutilated or damaged while print-ing, the clerk should call Scientific Games at 1-800-858-4744 for a control number. The clerk should keep the “Reprint” ticket and put it in the lottery envelope, then print a new raffle ticket for that player.

The Raffle icon will remain on the Extrema screen as long as raffle tickets are still for sale. On the day tickets sell out, if a retailer tries to sell a ticket, they will receive the message “Game sold out.”

The raffle drawing will be held approximately three working days following the date all 120,000 tickets have been sold or on a final scheduled drawing date of June 17, 2008,

• whichever occurs first. Players must keep their raffle ticket in order to check their numbers against the winning raffle numbers and claim a prize. Prizes must be claimed within 90 days of the drawing date.

Winning raffle numbers will be available through posters at retail locations, from retailer lotto terminals, in newspapers across the state, from lottery offices and at ialottery.com. Future issues of “Lottery Action” will have instructions on how to print the winning raffle numbers from the terminal.

Be sure to remind your players to get their raffle ticket before they sell out!

• Confirm the purchase with the player. Touch “PRINT” to print the ticket or “CANCEL” to cancel the transaction.

Important Notes:

Once printed, tickets may not be cancelled.

Is the Iowa Lottery tallying up my smaller win-nings so the government can tax me later?

It is business as usual at the Iowa Lottery. The Lottery is not keeping a tally of prizes on indi-viduals who win $600 or less. However, if a player wins more than $600 on one ticket, the prize must be claimed at a lottery office and a claim form must be filled out. Players winning more than $600 on one ticket will receive a W-2G form at the end of the calendar year.
