When referring to instance(s) of a weekday use the definite article.

Notice how the day of the week does not need to change whether the reference is singular or plural?

What is today’s date?

Hoy es el quince de septiembre.

Today is September 15th.

Ordinal numbers are NOT used in Spanish, except when referring to the 1st day of the month.

Hoy es el primero de septiembre.

Today is September first.
