Friday night, July 22, was a blowout at Tia Juana's as Jerry Gontang graciously shared the stage with Jim Hoehn and Hugo Duarte. Come Saturday, Parrot Heads from Southern Cali-fornia and beyond gathered to confess their sins – or commit a few - at Saturday’s Migration 2005. It was an-other great party that raised some for charity through a coordinated venture among the LAPHC, OCPH, High Desert, Inland Empire and San Diego Clubs. Volun-teers from all these great Parrot Head Clubs were shaking their tail feathers from the front door to the mini-mart, to the silent auction and all kinds of raffle bidness. Our working together never looked PHiner! The party got started at high noon with Jim Hoehn joining us from Wisconsin. He took time out of his busy writing schedule to serenade the early arrivals that were eager to get a head start on the festivities. Following Jim was our southern friend Hugo Duarte, making his Migration premier. We love to hear Hugo’s stories and original tunes such as “Hillbilly Beach”--perfect music to get the toes tappin’. It was great to have him back on the left coast. Unkle Mon-key took to the stage next and made the already loose crowd looser with their fun mix of Buffett and island favor-ites. Meanwhile, those in attendance noticed the arrival of some very special guests, Coral Reefers Tina Gullickson and Heather Perry, looking stunning as always. The ladies made some lucky Parrot Heads’ days with a special photo-op raffle and mingled with the crowd with their “beefy

henchmen” Steve Kennedy and Mike McLain in tow. Both Steve and Mike appeared to be enjoying their shadowing way far more than they shoulda. But hey, someone’s gotta do it!!! And the raffle was a big hit this year...as ever! The ticket sellers made the rounds and made the rounds again, and afterwards lined up at the bar hot, thirsty , and pleasantly exhausted! We gave our last drop of sweat for the Club and loved it!!! The winning num-bers were posted by the door which gave us all yet another gathering spot to catch up with friends, laugh, at stories and dance a little. Everyone got a prize, or so it seemed! The tacos made the rounds con-stantly…and it was even easy to get a drink this year from the cute barmaids!! A happy heart makes for a happy party!!

The first half of the year is well behind us now. It’s hard to believe that it has gone by so fast. Ya’ll have done a lot of good so far. We had an-other great PHINS TO THE WEST, worked with SPECIAL OLYMPICS, had some great Phlockings, (especially the pool party at the Hill’s), and had an-other successful MIGRATION.

We have a great lineup of events planned for the re-

maining months. August will be BEACH CLEANUP and Phlocking. September we will have a joint Phlocking with High Desert PHC. October brings Bowling and JB shows in Vegas.

November is MOTM and the Doo Dah Parade in Pasadena followed by our Holiday party at the Sagebrush in December. So you see, there’s lots of PHun to be had. Thanks to everyone who has come out and participated in our events. Ya’ll have a wonderful Board of Di-rectors that are working their tails off

to make this club the best. Check out our website often and come out

and join your fellow Parrot Heads in stuff that just comes naturally, PARTYING WITH A PURPOSE!

Next up was a quick live auction hosted by LAPHC Founder/Former Prez Mike McLain. The friendly bidding raced sky-ward as charitable Parrot Heads attempted to get their hands on some great items autographed by you-know-who. The entire back room was devoted to some really cool silent auction stuph. Many closed in on their chosen items circling sharks; fins to the left, fins to the right…we all kept a watchful eye on the bid sheets for our soon to be stash. Taking the stage to a rousing ap-plause was the crowd favorite Stars on the Water which as always, rocked the house. The crowd was dancin’, singing and having a great time with Jerry, Matt and Randy. The huge rotating fan by the door was the most popular spot in the place after a whirl around the dance floor! The wet sultry look was definitely in!!! We love Tia Juana’s but it’s gotta be the hottest place in town. Hot in more ways than one! There were smiles everywhere and everyone seemed to be having a great time. There was talk and laugher with people meeting going on all day. Just ask the Rainbow Boys….they were definitely chick magnets that day!

(Continued from page 2) Once the party cleared at Tia Juana’s at 9:00 p.m., some ventured on over to Knowlwood for a frosty beverage and a bite to eat. Jim Hoehn was already at the mic with his guitar, so the transition over was jut

about uninterrupted! As the night progressed, Jim was joined by Jerry, Hugo and friends for a long round of original tunes and forgotten favorites; a great way to top off a great event. Before the night ended Nellie Carlen and Mike McLain made a special announcement regarding next

year’s Migration. We’re moving to the Coast Hotel in Long Beach! Those that attended the Bon Voyage Party in April know that this is a great cool, refresh-ing, waterfront venue with plenty of partying room. Another splen-did adventure is in store. So….until next year…Fins up Parrot Head Nation—Keep Living the Dream!!

Because of the outstanding per-formance by the LAPHC at the 2004 event, we were specifically requested to once again work with the Bocci Ball and Aquatic venues. The competition was fierce but friendly. The athletes were marvelous and very dedi-cated to their sport. It was a very special day for some very special people. During a break in the action, Jim Hill made the acquaintance of a couple of spectators who remem-bered the Parrot Heads from last year’s event. They were im-pressed with us then and thought we were once again doing a great service. These guys men-tioned that they had seen a young couple at Cabo some time this year and that they were wearing Buffet/Parrot Head shirts. The young couple identified themselves as Jimmy Buffet fans but didn’t say to which club they belonged, if any. Buffet fans are everywhere. Jim gave them his best pitch for the Buffet Fan Club, local, national and interna-tional. Gave them the complete history from get to go. He continued on even as they were backing away and

    (Continued from page 1)

looking around for an escape door. Actually, they were great sports and seemed to really appreciate Jim’s en-thusiasm, the club’s dedication to Buffet and our com-mitment to the Special Olympics. From what I saw and heard, I believe that each Parrot Head Club member ended the day with a self-satisfied,

good feeling about themselves. There’s nothing like giving of your time and of yourself. Thanks to Rod Lang, our Charity Director, for working closely with the Special Olympics organizers and getting us all together … thumbs up to all the LAPHC members who participated this year! Look forward to doing it again next year. Speaking of the end of the day, many LAPHC mem-bers gathered at BJ’s Chicago Pizza and Grill in Belmont Shores for beer, wine and grub. One club member, Jim Hill, was seen sam-pling all seven of the house’s spe-cial exotic brews in vastly oversized glasses, followed by some serious drinking. Another, our own club president, Steve W, was caught sneaking down the street to the

Somewhere between the beer and wine guzzling, we mused where Ken and Michelle Levinson got to; as of this writing we figure they are still trying to find BJ’s. Overall, great food, drink and friends. A few members then found themselves at Joe’s Crab Shack for an after dinner drink or two or three, where they were entertained by dancing bartenders and waitresses. Some very weirdly attired patrons also joined in for a rol-licking good time. Great day! Thanks everybody. See ya’ll next year, same time, same station.

During the month of November, the election process will be by written ballot and each Club member may vote for one person to each Board position. Election forms shall be completed, signed and returned to the LAPHC President. By November 30, the election process will end and all ballots must be in the hands of the President. Membership Report by Nina Hill

We have three new members! Let’s hear it for Phyllis Mortimore who pitched in at our Mother’s Beach clean-up and was seen dancing at PMYC. Phyllis made herself right at home and attended a Board meeting as well. We also welcomed Zak and Jessica Adams, who are friends of Karen and Bill Hignite. They were spotted at Phins and at the Avi rou-lette tables. Fun people! The Board has begun discussions on ways to increase membership...a new membership event and/or drive that will bring in new people. We’ll be soon asking for your help to re-cruit new members to add to the fun at all our parties and charitable ventures. Stay tuned!

July 9th...just another day of fun in the sun at Jim and Nina Hill’s home in Granada Hills. The Parrot Heads arrived in full regalia to chat, preen, imbibe and fanta-size at pool side with friends from all over. This year we had an auction of some really PHine stuff. Prez Steve was in charge of doing the auction double talk he does so well as the bids flew. First up was a PARROTHEAD license plate and a G-mail ac-count LAParrothead . A tousle was put up by Jim Hill with Matt Fritch and Robert Plasky taking him on early. Rod Lang hung in there almost to the very end giving Jim Hill a run for his money…but alas the li-cense and handle went to Jim. Waytogo Jim! Then there were box seats at the Burbank Starlight Bowl for the Mark Wood and the Parrot Heads performance in July. Once again, Jim Hill came in the top bidder and with his lady Nina sat and chilled with Frank & Kris Bellino and Ronnie & Diana Trowbridge in styling box seats as the rest of us grunts went about our daily toils on that evening. Three photo shots were offered as well. Robert Plasky snared one which he will share with his lovely wife Audrey (me!) and his

amazing dog Kozette. The other two were garnered by the Bellinos, one in which they will be sitting pretty as the rock stars they are in their photo op, and the other Frank so graciously gave to Parrot Head Susan Fishman who magnanimously donated the G-mail ac-count. Good things come to good people!! After a spread of food which went from one end of the pool to the other, we applauded Tom Keeting who has contributed much to the club as he gets ready to fly off to be a big-time corporation owner in Illinois. Tom was

given a tropically framed certificate attesting to his PHine standing in the club, and a cake was decorated in his honor complete with a rubber duckie. Tom shall be

missed….but look for him at Phins to the West in 2006! The afternoon pro-gressed into the evening with jello shooters abound…this time in spiral cyl-inders catapulted by a blower and a blowee…a twosome is needed to do it justice! Not for the faint-hearted! Blen-derman John Larson was making the rounds with his glorious “pink tit-ties”….oh so scrumptious…being the DRINKS that they are! And the brewski was as always a big hit. I so enjoyed being on the long tall end of it with little Kelli Wesolowski on the “receiving end”. It was by far the most lopsided brewski with major dumping all over Kelli. Then Blenderman came to

Kelli’s aid (as if SHE needs help?!)….and it was payback time to me. The brewski is becoming quite the Parrot Head weapon these days! John Barone was talking about an upcoming pit stop in Pittsburgh. He’s taking with him on this good will mission, a brewski which was signed by our LAPHC. It will be our “phins across the nation” to our Parrot Head friends in Pittsburgh with an invite to come see us at Phins to the West and bring it on back to us. PHine idea John!

The pool was a welcome refresher to warmed up Parrot Heads. The usual misbehaving occurred with folks be-ing pushed in, dropped in and torpedoed in. The pool was littered with hats and sunglasses from unsuspecting victims or inebriated frolickers who plain forgot about their apparatus. And what a show of shows! Our own LAPHC Jumbo Butts (Jim Hill, Steve Wesolowski and John Larson) performed No Mirrors, No Scales, No Problems for us. The first live performance I do believe! Accompanied by our Bob Karwin, they sang their own Jumbo Butts song with choreography you just had to be there to believe! It was oh so funny. We all just had the most fun that day which was capped off for me sitting poolside as John “Blenderman” Larson held court with his hilarious stories of going to the doc-tor, etc. etc. We have some funny people in our LAPHC…that’s what makes a party for me. And this day was a good one! Thanks Jim and Nina for your hospi-tality and that great venue...made even better with expert pruning by Lee and Rick Bacon! Let’s do it again next year!

Somehow I think the L.A. Parrot Heads have sung the Boat Drink song one time too many….especially the chorus which goes “I wanna go where’s it’s warm.” Face it, no matter when we plan our big golfing ven-ture at the Valencia Greens into our schedule….it turns out to be the HOTTEST day of the year. Such as it was….this PHine day in May was a hot one and 70 Par-rot Heads and Phriends had a hot time in the old town again. As we got out of our air conditioned car at the Greens and hit the siz-zling’ pavement I champed my hat to my head, lathered on a fair amount of SPF 30 and booked

on over to the clubhouse ready for a play day in the sun, ready for anything. That is…after a visit to the bar for a tall one of gin and tonic. Then another! We all took to the Greens shortly thereafter and I must say, next year I’ll go easy on the gin and tonics! I remember falling into the water, having John and Robbie Larson’s son turn the sprinklers on me, malleting the crap out of

those bouncy little things Tom and Ginger brought with them, turning around the “next hole this way” signs to mess with the team following us, and laughing my head off laying flat out on the greens. Anything beyond that due to the early libations on a hot day, I had to rely on hubby Robert and PHriends to fill me in. We all came to play, and not neces-sarily golf! There was a fair share of missteps into the water…I am told. Many saw Neil flip in, although he denies it saying he was pushed, Kelli Wesolowski also spent a fair share of time in and around the water as well. Slugger Michele Levinson banked a shot off a rock sending it soaring into the parking lot. Lynne Michaels was spotted…a few times…performing a sand wedge shot using a putter; Terry Seck and Nancy Seck, as well as Dave Michaels proved to be their teams’ steady consistent players,

pranksters Tom Keeting and Ginger Blake came to play with their audio, multi-colored soft bouncy things, as super dynamo Kenny Levinson dug in a ball half-way to China! After we sunk all the balls we could and scores were

tallied, it was over the hill to John and Robbie’s house in Granada Hills for refreshments, nourish-ment and a fair amount of bull being tossed about on various individual accomplishments on the greens. Awards were given out amid cheers and envious sneers to winners. Left Coast PHC cleaned up...taking most of the trophies for best team, best wench...beyond that everything was fuzzy (what can I say?!) Many thanks to Kris Bellino and Diana Trowbridge for creating one of a kind awards. These Parrot Heads are really creative! Everyone had a grand ole time….it was especially great partying at the Larsons. When we party at Parrot Head homes we can really let our tail feathers fly…..as if anything has stopped us in the past! Thanks to everyone who had a hand in our most successful Golfing at the Greens.

For those of you who missed the Hill’s pool party ya’ll missed a real treat with the Charity auction. The auction action started off very sedately with Jim Hill winning two box seat tickets and a parking pass to the “Jimmy Buffett Tribute” performance at Bur-bank’s Starlight Bowl. Next up were gift certificates for Bradford Renais-sance Portraits, thank you again Patty, which were picked up by Frank and Robert. And then the action started, a bidding duel worthy of Sotheby or Christie. At stake, the LA Parrot Head Pride Pack with in-cluded the g-mail account [email protected] AND a California license plate “LAPRTHD.” The bidding soon cleared the $100 mark, and a short time later it crossed the $200 threshold. On pass $250, pass $275. The action finally paused; the party had become quiet, had the bidding reached its climax? Steve was gripping the micro-phone – “going once, going twice, SOLD! Yes, Jim Hill had successfully bid $295 for the Pride Pack. Congratulations to our auction winners, Jim, Robert, Frank and all the other bidders who made the auc-tion a great part of a great pool party. Our designated charity for the auction is the Marine Mammal Center in San Pedro. The Center has been particularly stressed these last couple of months due to overwhelming number of sick Sea Lions. Looking ahead on our the charity horizon, we’ll be doing a baby products drive in the fall as well as our annual Toy Drive for Los Angeles County Fire De-partment at the Christmas Party. Charity Report By Rod Lang

Parrot Phact—- Jimmy Buffett The Encyclopedia of Rock, compiled by Nick Logan and Bob Woffinden, states that, "Buffett's talent was hardly the sort that could be straight-jacketed by Nashville's or-thodox music establishment. After signing with ABC-Dunhill, he recorded his second debut album, ironically again in Nashville, though this time with greater artistic free-dom. Released in 1973, A White Sport Coat and Pink Crustacean helped to establish him, and it was a reputation he was able to enhance with his next album, Living and Dy-ing in 3/4 Time, which received good re-views, and contained the single "Come Monday". Jimmy plunged from the frying pan of Nash-ville into the fire of Key West. Key West in the early 70's was much different that the Key West of today. Smugglers, servicemen, and shrimpers populated the island that had a reputation for harboring those seeking a lifestyle somewhat to the left of norm. Boarded store fronts dotted Duval St., and any dilapidated building that housed a busi-ness invariably served alcohol; over or un-der the counter. The proverbial end of the rainbow carried pot, but no gold. This was the cultural "melting pot" that was to inspire Jimmy to write "The Wino and I Know", "My Head Hurts, My Feet Stink, and I Don't Love Jesus", "Tin Cup Chalice", and "I Have Found Me A Home" among others. As Bob Anderson says about Jimmy in 1986 inter-view in High Times, "Every outlaw has a good story, and Buffett has an eye and ear for them."

Lynn Sisco was seen at the Baja Sisterhood Group one evening. The theme be-ing Trailer Park Trash in honor of several members’ housing choices. On the menu was spam/mac ‘n cheese, vodka & Tang and rum & Hawaiian Punch. En-tertainment was a rousing game of bingo with proceeds going to a needy family. Pat Chambers was recently spotted in his backyard refereeing a tangle between Lady and Percy with Lady trampling Percy whist trying to exit the tortoise mansion. Audrey Plasky was engaged in some fancy footwork on a televised segment of Animal Planet while showing her Kozette at the Nuts for Mutts Dog Show. The “whirling dervish” Kozette pranced away with blue ribbons in Most Beautiful AND Most Obedient (with tricks!). Recoveree Ed Kochanek was seen proudly flashing his new airport metal detec-

tion card which entitles him to walk through the buzzing metal sensors without being routinely strip searched. Female airport security very sad. Seems there’s a lot of buzz around the Club about the upcoming nominations for LAPHC Board offices. The feathers are a stirring and beaks a beaking. Should be an interesting November election. Nancy Seck has reason to walk tall these days. She’s just been appointed Director of Nurses aka VP Patient Care Services at the Los Robles Hospital in Thousand Oaks. Her days of giving enemas are now officially over! Nancy and Terry’s son Chris has a paying job in DNA research for Cal Poly. The Secks are happy thinking he may have a real job after college!! Tom Keeting is doing fine in Chicago making lotsa $$$. If fine is working long hours and partying less??? Hmmmm. And was that Rita Jo Smith touring with and guarding Oprah at Disneyland one Saturday? And what about LAPHC Founder Dan McLain, “Top Son” of proud parents and Club Founders Mike & Bev McLain. Dan was seen doing a photo shoot at Pax River Maryland with a Navy test pilot while stationed at the Pentagon. Way to go Dan and all the others in the service who keep us all safe here at home! Member Spotlight — Jeannette Teti

Hi, I’m Jeannette, a baby boomer born at Los An-geles’ Queen of Angels Hospital to my loving pa-rental units, Pierino and Aurora Teti. Growing up in Pennsylvania, Dad originally phlocked to Amer-ica from Italy when he was just a little boy. Mom was born in Michigan until my grandparents de-cided to phlock to the warmth of the west. Ulti-mately I became the second of three siblings mak-ing me the challenged middle child with brothers at both ends! Growing up in Los Angeles my early years con-sisted of grass bomb fights, penny candy from the local Five and Dime store, the Monkeys and Bobby Sherman – yes, I was the protected daugh-ter. No Woodstock for me! As I became more mature, Competitive Wally Ball (volleyball in a rac-quet ball court) became my sport of choice along with cruising Van Nuys Boulevard sipping Cold Duck with my friends listening to Led Zeppelin and any other music that would rock our wheels. I call myself a “soccer slut” in the kindest way. During the recent Gold Cup I was getting up at 1 –3 am to watch the live game, and it’s not unusual for me to sit through a 6-12 hr. televised game. Yes, I do love those tight butts on soccer players! I also enjoy a rare night hike in Griffith Park with the Sierra Club, or kicking back to enjoy a Merlot or Mar-garita while lis-tening to sounds from the Caribbean, Brazil, Hawaii and of course Jimmy! I attended John Marshall High School focus-

ing on Art, Creative Writing, History and Geography. Although dad was a teacher I was an under achiever--couldn’t make up my mind what I wanted to be whenever I decided to grow up. (Editor’s Note: Sounds like a Free Spirit to me!) Once I started col-lege, Art History and Anthropology/Archeology major seemed like the direction I should follow leading to a caer in finance which seemed like the natural course of action. Obviously, I still don’t know what I want to do when I grow up. After a thorough research via anthropology/archeology research, I did learn there was a Pharaoh Teti but you can also find my sur-name on manhole covers in Italy; so much for a fu-ture as royalty! After being briefly married for 20 years, my best phriends and extended family, the Bellinos and Trowbridges, brought me to a Phlocking at Chuy’s. I fell for the whole package! What a great mix of peo-ple – craziness abounds but passionate about their cause. The music and fun is more than I expected. I still have problems describing the wackiness of Pirate Golf to those not in the know or the incredible feel-ings of contributing at the Special Olympics as a member of the LAPHC! I love being a Parrot Head and truly look forward to all of the adventures still to come! I recently took on the task of LAPHC Secretary to complete Patty Ko-chanek’s term. Parrot Head Director of Secretary??? I think I’ve finally found my calling!! Bring it on!!

Edititor’s Note: Jeannette has been voted by the Board to fill the vacant Board position of LAPHC Secretary
