Lord, I love you and adore

You.

We honor those who died while in defense of our

country.

O God of love, compassion, and healing, look on us, people of many different faiths and traditions, who gather today at this site, the scene of incredible violence and pain. We ask you in your goodness to give eternal light and peace to all who died here-- the heroic first-responders: our fire fighters, police officers, emergency service workers, and Port Authority personnel, along with all the innocent men and women who were victims of this tragedy simply because their work or service brought them here on September 11, 2001. We ask you, in your compassion to bring healing to those who, because of their presence here that day, suffer from injuries and illness. Heal, too, the pain of still-grieving families and all who lost loved ones in this tragedy. Give them strength to continue their lives with courage and hope. We are mindful as well of those who suffered death, injury, and loss on the same day at the Pentagon and in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Our hearts are one with theirs as our prayer embraces their pain and suffering. God of peace, bring your peace to our violent world: peace in the hearts of all men and women and peace among the nations of the earth. Turn to your way of love those whose hearts and minds are consumed with hatred. God of understanding, overwhelmed by the magnitude of this tragedy, we seek your light and guidance as we confront such terrible events. Grant that those whose lives were spared may live so that the lives lost here may not have been lost in vain. Comfort and console us, strengthen us in hope, and give us the wisdom and courage to work tirelessly for a world where true peace and love reign among nations and in the hearts of all.

Pope Benedict XI--Prayer at Ground Zero New York, 20 April 2008

On April 20, 2008, the Vicar of Christ visited the United States and he made a special visit to "Ground Zero", a truly American site of prayer and reflection and he prayed. The words of that beautiful prayer are as stirring today as they were then. In memory of all those who died, those who still suffer, those who still grieve their loss and for a Nation which today reflects on the event and what it means for the future, Catholic Online offers the Pope Benedict XI Prayer:

Sharing the Gospel with our Children!

(Parents please keep the Faith alive in your children during this difficult time.)

One day someone might sin against you. Friends may hurt your feelings. A neighbor may take your toy without ask-ing. Remember what Jesus said. Remember that you sin, too. Talk it over quietly, just the two of you, and give your friend a chance to apologize.

Say this Prayer

Be with me, Jesus, when someone has hurt me. Help

me to forgive. Amen.

Something to Draw

Draw a picture of someone apologizing to you.

Email it to

[email protected] and we will post it on our

Facebook Page!

Mission for the Week

Pray for your friends who get stuck in sin. Help them out if you can.

Lord Jesus, I give you my hands to do your work. I give you my feet to go your way. I give you my eyes to see as you see. I give you my tongue to speak your words. I give you my mind to think as you think. I give you my spirit so that you may pray in me. I give you my self so that you may grow in me. So that it is you, Lord Jesus, Who lives and works and prays in me. Amen

A hero is someone who gives of himself, often putting his own life at great risk, for the greater good of others. The most heroic are often the most ordinary of people doing ordinary things for a greater humane purpose. 2020 has been a difficult year for everyone. We have seen many heroes come forward as the "essential" workers keeping our country going amid the COVID-19 pandemic. We will always honor our active military and veterans but especially this year we would also like to recognize our "essential" workers. The list is long and includes truckers, grocery store workers, first responders and many women and men who exposed themselves to health dangers in order to protect their fellow Americans. We are all in this fight together, and the United States Flag symbolizes our unity as a people. Please consider sponsoring a flag for $35.00 in memory of or in honor of your loved one. You may call us at 315-735-6210 or fill out a form at www.thegoodnewscenter.org/flags-for-heroes/

THE FIVE FINGER PRAYER 1. Your thumb is nearest to you. So begin your prayers by praying for those closest to you. They are the easiest to remember. To pray for our loved ones is, as C. S. Lewis once said, a "sweet duty." 2. The next finger is the pointing finger. Pray for those who teach, instruct and heal. This includes teachers, doctors, and ministers. They need support and wisdom in pointing others in the right direction. Keep them in your prayers. 3. The next finger is the tallest finger. It reminds us of our leaders. Pray for the president, leaders in business and industry, and administrators. These people shape our nation and guide public opinion. They need God's guidance. 4. The fourth finger is our ring finger. Surprising to many is the fact that this is our weakest finger; as any piano teacher will testify. It should remind us to pray for those who are weak, in trouble or in pain. They need your prayers day and night. You cannot pray too much for them. 5. And lastly comes our little finger; the smallest finger of all. Which is where we should place ourselves in relation to God and others. As the Bible says, "The least shall be the greatest among you." Your pinkie should remind you to pray for yourself. By the time you have prayed for the other four groups, your own needs will be put into proper perspective and you will be able to pray for yourself more effectively.
