“All the News that Fits We Print”

Before the Bell

Scribe observations beginning at 11:50: President Edwin began the proceedings by stating to those gathered, and in a very determined way, “Get off your ****, and get some chairs into the tent.” Ron Puccinelli started walking around gathering $10 personally from any club member within sight… which This Scribe thought was more effective than sitting at the table, waiting for payers to come to him. Things were starting to get organized.

At the Bell

The meeting was called to order by President Edwin at 11:15. Dick Zimmer held the flag while President Edwin started the Pledge of Allegiance. Keller McDonald led us in “God Bless America”. The thought for the day, was Edwin’s thanks to all for the work already done and about to be done.

Visiting Rotarians and Guests

We had one visiting Rotarian, Judge Knoel Owen, Santa Rosa Main.

Guests: Aleia brought Amelie Depireux, our exchange student from Belgium. Jack Dunlap introduced his wife, Ginny; Andrew Russell introduced daughter Eleanor; David Woodruff introduced Marcella Gaskill; Ron Puccinelli introduced his wife, Linda. Announcements

President Edwin announced that Mark Fink had been taken from his office to Santa Rosa Memorial by ambulance this morning. Mike Long was able to observe that Mark was conscious and speaking at the time. Edwin asked us to keep him in our thoughts and prayers.

He also asked us all to keep Harvey Henningsen in our thoughts as he undergoes back surgery at Stanford Hospital. [Harvey told –Ed. tonight that he is back home after surgery (to relieve nerve pressure) at Stanford Hospital… to operate on a couple of vertebrae damaged last year… while driving a forklift. Hard part is doing nothing for a week. Harvey is “extremely grateful that he lives in a country that has the technology and resources to provide me with this treatment and care”. –Ed.]

Lobster Feed:

Jackie Moreira reminded us that as we finish the tasks we signed up for, that we should check in before we leave.

Dan Rasmus needed bodies during the afternoon to help with silent auction.

Troy McAdams needed strong backs to move wine barrels.

Mike Long needed help with pots and burners.

Other tasks were outlined, including help needed by Ken Jacobs for the A.V. set up.

We were reminded that Bristol Hassler needed our checks forthwith.

The ABC’s of Rotary (Taken from “The ABCs of Rotary”, a Rotary International publication originally prepared by

Dr. Cliff Dochterman who was RI President in 1992-93)

#39 The District Assembly

In view of the annual turnover of Rotary leadership each year, special effort is required to provide the more than 31,000 club leaders with appropriate instruction for the tasks they will assume. The annual district assembly is the primary training event for incoming club officers.

The district assembly offers motivation, inspiration, Rotary information, and new ideas for club officers, directors, and key committee chairs of each club. Some of the most experienced district leaders conduct informative discussions on all phases of Rotary administration and service projects. The assembly gives participants valuable new ideas to make their club more effective and interesting. Usually 8 to 10 delegates from each club are invited to attend the training session.

Another important feature of a district assembly is a review by the incoming district governor of the theme and emphasis of the new RI president for the coming year. District goals and objectives are also described, and plans are developed for their implementation.

The success of each Rotary club is frequently determined by the club’s representation and participation in the annual district assembly.
