Lee’s News

“IT IS THROUGH

OTHERS THAT WE

DEVELOP INTO

OURSELVES”

Vygotsky

Dear Parents and Caregivers, Welcome to our first “official” newsletter of 2018. I cannot believe how wonderfully smooth the transition into kindy has been for our children and families. It has truly been amazing! We have learnt so much together in just a few weeks. The children are all getting familiar with the routines and the flow of the kindy day. They are also beginning to grasp the boundaries and agreements set in place to help us all learn as much as we can in a safe and fun-filled way. We will continue our work around agreements, focusing on our three expectations at kindy. They are simple but certainly cover every aspect of safety and wellbeing within our program. They are as follows:

Keeping yourself SAFE, Keeping your friends SAFE, Keeping our belongings and equipment SAFE.

Essentially, our work is all about being kind, considerate and respectful. Caring for yourself, your mates, your kindy and the environment goes a long way to ensuring everyone can fully access all that our beautiful program can offer. I hope you have had a chance to take a look at our “Kindy Conversations” series on our Facebook page and YouTube. The introduction of this series is for us to be more inclusive of the needs of our families by allowing you to access the conversations around the what, why and how we operate our kindy. The feedback we have received has been extraordinarily positive (don’t worry, we won’t be quitting our day jobs to be YouTubers!) and we plan to produce loads more videos to help you learn about all things kindy from the comfort of your own home. We have loads of fun things on the horizon, starting with our participation in the Queen’s Baton Relay this Wednesday the 21st of February, where the BUGS group will cheer on our past scholar, Angus Fitzgerald as he runs from Lobethal P.S before heading to the Mill to perform Highway Number One! Frogs children are invited to come along and meet us at the Mill at 12.50pm and join in on the performance if they wish. We also have our Welcome BBQ and AGM this Thursday, which is a great opportunity for a chat with staff and for us all to get to know each other a little better. We would also love for you to stay and join us for our AGM, where we will present the annual report for 2017 and vote in our new GC for this year. If you would like to be involved in the running of our kindergarten, helping us identify and reach set goals and coordinate our fabulous fundraising adventures, all while meeting new friends and having fun, I urge you to join! We also have our Bunnings BBQ fundraiser coming up on March 3rd. A huge thank you to everyone who volunteered to help out on the roster. It was so great to see all the spots filled so quickly. Please remember to bring in your $5 donation as this will go a long way towards covering our outgoing costs which will increase our fundraising profits on the day! Staff spent last weekend together at a beach house at Aldinga, conducting a self-review of our site against the National Quality Standards. This review helps us to identify our strengths and areas for development, which in turn helps us to create our 2018 Quality Improvement Plan. We will continue pulling this together and refining our priorities and goals at our site Closure day on March 15th. I would like to take this opportunity to thank my staff team for their on-going commitment to being the best kindy we can be. Our staff go way above what is expected of them due to the fact they love our kindy, our families and the children we work with. I feel that we are all pretty fortunate to work and learn in such a vibrant, fun-filled environment where our staff truly love their work and care deeply about improving the learning outcomes and wellbeing for each child. I am looking forward to an amazing year of love, laughter and learning together. Thanks for your ongoing support of our program. Lee ☺

KINDY FEES FACEBOOK GROUP

Our 2018 Facebook group is up and running and already being

proved very useful. This is a private/secret group and members

require approval from staff to join. We are happy for Grandparents

to be part of this group so that they can also enjoy your children’s

kindy journey. You can add them but they will need approval, let

staff know if possible so that we know, who belongs to who. (Names

are often tricky to match)

Thanks

EMERGENCY CONTACT DETAILS

We need to keep our records up to date, so please remember to

advise us ASAP of any change of phone numbers or addresses.

We also need to ensure that anyone picking up your child is noted

on your child’s records with authority to collect.

CONVERSATIONS WITH KINDY

Lobethal Community Kindergarten now

has it’s own YouTube channel.

This has been set up to share useful

information regarding everything kindy.

We have 2 videos already up and running

and will be adding more in the near future.

This was to replace our cancelled

acquaintance night, but we feel it can be

so much more as it developed further. We

will keep you updated as we add more

video episodes.

Episode 2 Assessment & Reporting

LEARNING JOURNEY BOOKS

By now everyone should have taken their child’s Learning Journey Book

home. Inside there is a letter explaining this important document and

some of the things we require you to do.

We need these back ASAP (within the next 2 weeks) with all the

“homework” we have asked you to do. This is a really important part of

the start of our assessment and reporting cycle and we value your input

especially at this early stage of the kindy year.

CORDS ON HATS & HOODIES

Please note that is a DECD requirement that all cords are removed

from hats and clothing. Therefore if you have any of these please

remove the cords before sending them to kindy. Thanks
