WHERE ARE THE GRAPES?
Jesus' parable is a little different from the one in the first reading. Isaiah’s vineyard is well cared for, but still it produces wild grapes. In the Gospel, the vineyard had a good harvest, but the workers refused to give any of the grapes to the landowner. Where do I fit in? Do I ignore all that God does to help me be a good disciple? Am I too busy to take time to pray or read the Bible? Do I hold onto grudges? If any of these are true, I might be like the vineyard in the first reading, producing no fruit despite all the opportunities God has given me. Or we may be on the other side of the coin. We had our children baptized, gave them good example, taught them the faith, yet they grew up and drifted away from the Church. Then we have to remember how patient God is with us when we don't always produce the fruits of faith. The tenants in the parable refer to those who would have Jesus crucified. God is patient with them, though, as we see from Paul, who persecuted Christians before he became one himself. Paul tells us to follow his example as he follows Christ. Then, he says, the peace of God will be with us, too (Phil 4:6-9). Tom Schmidt, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

My friends in Christ:
St. Jude Parish 40 Hours Devotions In late August, we began our nine week Solemn Novena to St. Jude Thaddeus, our patron Saint. I remain filled with awe and gratitude over how well our weekend St. Jude Novena has been received by our parish community. I can certainly witness to the power of the intercession of St. Jude for those for whom I’ve been praying, people whose situations may have appeared to be “hopeless.” He has answered my prayers. This year, we are pleased to welcome Father Jeff Stecz to preach and lead us in our annual 40 Hours Devotion, which closes the nine-week solemn novena to our patron St. Jude Thaddeus. The dates of 40 Hours are October 25, 26 and 27. Father Jeff Stecz will give a series of talks each night at 7PM. His talks will center on the theme of
“Our Universal Vocation - The Call to Holiness, the Call to Love in Union with the Saints.” Please consider coming to spend time with the Lord in the Blessed Sacrament by signing up for 30 minute time slots throughout the day and coming out to listen to the talks given by Father Jeff Stecz each evening. Confession will be available on Monday night! The Blessed Sacrament will be exposed in the main church after the 12:00 PM Mass on Sunday and after the 9:00 AM Mass on Monday and Tuesday. The prayer services each night will also be live-streamed at 7:00 PM for those who cannot join us in church. Father Jeff Stecz is currently the pastor in nearby Saint Agnes Church in Sellersville, PA. He has been a priest of Jesus Christ for 21 years in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. He was born in Phoenixville, PA, attended Sacred Heart Parish, and graduated from Phoenixville High School. He studied at Millersville University receiving a Bachelor of Science in Education in History and Secondary Education before attending St. Charles Seminary where he earned a Master of Divinity in Theology. He has served as a parochial vicar at SS. Philip and James (Exton), St. Maria Goretti (Hatfield), St. John Bosco (Hatboro), and St. Agnes (Sellersville). He also served as school minister at St. Pius X High School and as pastor of St. Ignatius and Our Mother of Sorrows in West Philadelphia for 3 years before returning to St. Agnes in Sellersville as pastor in 2013. Some of his interests include Contemporary Christian Music, singing, going to Phillies games, and enjoying time with family at the beach. Some of his favorite books include “Arise from Darkness” by Fr. Benedict Groeschell, “Life of Christ” by Fulton J. Sheen, and “Introduction to the Devout Life” by St. Francis de Sales. Important devotions in his life include the Rosary, Divine Mercy Chaplet, and Lectio Divina. If he could give one reason to deepen devotion to the Eucharist it would be… “You have made us for Yourself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it rests in You.” St. Augustine of Hippo, Confessions

Thank you for your prayers for our candidates, their sponsors, and their families. Thank you to all who contributed to the surprise celebration of my birthday at our Mercy Day Mass on Friday, September 25th! The outpour ing of love, generosity, and appreciation was overwhelming and humbling for me. Your prayers for September have indeed blessed me with many graces during this challenging time. A Message from Our Director of Faith Formation
What a glorious day it was for our First Holy Communion children and parents. After much waiting and anticipation the children looked beautiful and ready to receive Jesus for the first time in the
Eucharist. Deacon Tim’s homily was very insightful, he challenged the children to bring their parents every week to Mass for a “date” with Jesus. Other children received their First Holy Communion on Sunday with their family members surrounding them. Again a wonderful celebration for our entire parish to see! Jesus was certainly happy to have so many newly initiated members. All of the Masses are livestreamed and are available on the website. PREP has begun virtually using FlipGrid. Many thanks to the catechists, parents, and students for working through the details to get the students online and “in class.” The use of Flipgrid has allowed catechists and students to send videos to each other. Since we cannot be in person, this allows us to see and hear one another. Many Adult Faith programs will begin this fall. Please see the bulletin and e-newsletter for virtual programs that may interest you and help you to grow in your faith. Peace and blessings to all of you. Mrs. Lori Rawski

Solemn Novena to St. Jude Thaddeus August 30 through October 25
P : In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. P : O glorious apostle, St. Jude Thaddeus, true relative of Jesus and Mary, I salute you through the most Sacred Heart of Jesus! Through this Heart I praise and thank God for all the graces He has bestowed upon you. As I humbly prostrate before you, I implore you through this Heart to look down upon me with compassion. Oh, despise not my poor prayer; let not my trust be confounded! To you God has granted the privilege of aiding mankind in the most desperate cases. Oh, come to my aid that I may praise the mercies of God! All my life I will be grateful to you and will be your faithful follower until I can thank you in heaven. Amen. P : "Blessed Apostle, with confidence we invoke you!" P : "Blessed Apostle, with confidence we invoke you!" P : "St. Jude, help of the hopeless, aid me in my distress." P : "St. Jude, help of the hopeless, aid me in my distress." Most holy apostle, Saint Jude Thaddeus, faithful servant and friend of Jesus, the name of the trai-tor has caused you to be forgotten by many. But the Church honors and invokes you universally as the patron of difficult and desperate cases. Pray for me as I present my needs; make use, I implore you, of that particular privilege accorded to you to bring visible and speedy help where help was almost despaired. Come to my assistance in this great need that I may receive the consolation and help of heaven in all my necessities, tribulations and sufferings, particularly (here make your re-quest). May I bless God with you and all the elect throughout all eternity.
I promise you, O blessed JUDE, to be ever mindful of this great favor, and I will never cease to hon-or you as my special and powerful patron and do all in my power to encourage devotion to you. Amen.
Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be to the Father Saint Jude Thaddeus, pray for us and for all who honor you and invoke your aid.
Apostle of Jesus, A martyr saint of old, The cousin of Our Savior, Of whom thy love hath told; A writer of the scriptures With tongues of fire aflame, The worker great of wonders ln Jesus Holy Name. The worker great of wonders ln Jesus Holy Name.
St. Jude, though oft forgotten Thou shalt remembered be; We hail thee now in glory And have recourse to thee For help for the despairing When hopeless seems the task. And from the Heart of Jesus Through thee we favors ask. And from the Heart of Jesus Through thee we favors ask.

1st Reading – Is 5:1-7
Now, inhabitants of Jerusalem and people of Judah, judge between me and my vineyard: What more was there to do for my vineyard that I had not done? Why, when I looked for the crop of grapes, did it bring forth wild grapes? Now, I will let you know what I mean to do with my vineyard: take away its hedge, give it to grazing, break through its wall, let it be trampled! Yes, I will make it a ruin: it shall not be pruned or hoed, but overgrown with thorns and briers; I will command the clouds not to send rain upon it. The vineyard of the LORD of hosts is the house of Israel, and the people of Judah are his cherished plant; he looked for judgment, but see, bloodshed! for justice, but hark, the outcry! Responsorial Psalm –Ps 80:9,12,13-14,15-16,19-20
R. The vineyard of the Lord is the house of Israel.
A vine from Egypt you transplanted; you drove away the nations and planted it. It put forth its foliage to the Sea, its shoots as far as the River. R. Why have you broken down its walls, so that every passer-by plucks its fruit, The boar from the forest lays it waste, and the beasts of the field feed upon it? R. Once again, O LORD of hosts, look down from heaven, and see; take care of this vine, and protect what your right hand has planted, the son of man whom you yourself made strong. R. Then we will no more withdraw from you; give us new life, and we will call upon your name. O LORD, God of hosts, restore us; if your face shine upon us, then we shall be saved. R. 2nd Reading – Phil 4:6–9
Brothers and sisters: Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanks-giving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
27th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. Keep on doing what you have learned and received and heard and seen in me. Then the God of peace will be with you. R. Alleluia, alleluia. I have chosen you from the world, says the Lord, to go and bear fruit that will remain. R. Alleluia, alleluia. Gospel – Mt 21:33–43
Jesus said to the chief priests and the elders of the people: “Hear another parable. There was a landowner who planted a vineyard, put a hedge around it, dug a wine press in it, and built a tower. Then he leased it to tenants and went on a journey. When vintage time drew near, he sent his servants to the tenants to obtain his produce. But the tenants seized the servants and one they beat, another they killed, and a third they stoned. Again he sent other servants, more numerous than the first ones, but they treated them in the same way. Finally, he sent his son to them, thinking, ‘They will respect my son.’ But when the tenants saw the son, they said to one another, ‘This is the heir. Come, let us kill him and acquire his inheritance.’ They seized him, threw him out of the vineyard, and killed him. What will the owner of the vineyard do to those tenants when he comes?” They answered him, “He will put those wretched men to a wretched death and lease his vineyard to other tenants who will give him the produce at the proper times.” Jesus said to them, “Did you never read in the Scriptures:
“The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; by the Lord has this been done, and it is wonderful in our eyes”?
Therefore, I say to you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people that will produce its fruit.”
