Jonestown Newsletter 2

PianoOur piano students performed beautifully in the Spring Recital held at Mary Bethel MB Church.

Delores Fields Mason taught twelve children throughout the year; it is anticipated that each will return for lessons in September.

Shared Mission VolunteersFor the first time in thirteen years, a group of Shared Mission Volunteers from Jonestown went out of town to do service!

Six of us drove all the way through several beautiful states to Wapato, Washington in mid-May. We were away for three weeks. Our tasks were to assist Sister Mary Ellen Robinson, SNJM, in her work with children and adults in the Yakima Valley. We enjoyed the children, the food, the town, our two-hour stint with Sister Mary Rita, SNJM and her ESL class

in Sunnyside, and we enjoyed the snow on Mount Rainier, the water falls in Oregon and Idaho, the mountains in Montana, and meeting many people.

For the 25th time in 26 years, Shared Mission Volunteers from Holy Names Academy, Seattle (below) came to help teach Summer School!

Patrici Lewis (above: fifth from the left in the top row), member of Girls, Now Women, attended a workshop in New York

City, sponsored by UNANIMA, which focused on Anti-Trafficking: Phase 2 of Stop the Demand Campaign - Youth Workshop. In a summary to me, Patrici said,

Patrici returned after the workshop to the University of Southern Illinois where she is a Graduate Assistant, Geography & Environmental Resources.

T he years since I first came to Clarksdale, Mississippi in August, 1978 have passed so quickly! This academic year of 2009 - 2010 is no exception. It is ending a bit early again as I will be spending the month of July in Viet Nam. September will arrive soon!

Worthwhile activities within the Durocher Service Development Program are possible because God blesses me with good health, a supportive community, volunteers from inside and outside of Jonestown and wonderfully generous friends. I am very grateful for all. Thank you!

God Bless,

“I cannot include everything that I experienced from this workshop but it has increased my awareness and determination to help Stop the Demand. I’m still taking it all in.”
