Christmas Newspaper 2016

Interview with the Head

Current Affairs at Little BedesThe play was on Thursday 3rd November 2016 and was performed at Little Bede’s. It is about a little girl called Aurora who was cursed by a wicked witch. She then fell asleep for one hundred years and then an adventurous, brave and handsome Prince saved her. Aurora married the prince and lived happily ever after. HAPPY ENDING! The most exciting part of the play was when Eric got Maleficent’s mystical staff. I felt emotional, VERY EMOTIONAL.

Exciting and engaging, twinkling lights lit up the stage as the Sleeping Beauty Theatrical Performance was seconds away from beginning! Silence. A deathly hush hung in the air and the play began. Our eyes were glued to the wonderfully lit stage as the effortlessly fantastic actors glided, danced and sang happily. Emotions changing yet still light-hearted, we cheered and clapped while singing along to familiar songs. Delighted, we enjoyed and celebrated Aurora’s birthday party!

Reviews: Hannah, who is part of Y5, thought it was fab and would love to watch it again! Like Hannah, Laura (also from Y5) would also like to watch it again. She commented that it was better than the original one! In Dagmara’s opinion, (from Y5) it was so funny! She would love to watch it all day! Haddie from Y6 thought it was EPIC and a lot better than she expected.

Have you ever wondered if teachers like their jobs? Well now we have some answers to these questions! Firstly, we asked if Mrs Rizzi Allan likes our newspaper’s name (Little Bede’s BIG News) she smiled and replied with, “I think it’s quite a cute name since it uses play on words!”

Hesitating, we then asked if she liked her job. Mrs Rizzi Allan answeredenthusiastically with, “I am VERY blessed to have this job.”

“It’s a REALLY great job, I love to make sure EVERYTHING is perfect and finished! It really is a fun job - hard but fun”, she beamed.

Even though I was 99.9% sure I knew the answer to this question, I asked it anyway. “What’s your favourite part of the day?” Straight away Caitlin and I were expecting her to say 3:10pm (EVERYONE’S favourite time of the day!) Right? WRONG! “My favourite time of the day is the first hour because there’s hardly any phone calls into school so it’s REALLY quiet.”

We asked Mrs Rizzi Allan if there was anything she would like to change in the school. She responded with, “Yes, I would like to make KS2’s yard better… Maybe a climbing frame? I really want to add interesting apparatus to the yard.”

We wanted to know if Mrs Rizzi Allan would think a voting section in the newspaper would be a good idea? “Yes, I think it would be LOVELY to have a voting section! It would make decisions a LOT easier.”

Don’t you agree our dinners are the BEST in the country? Maybe even the WORLD!? But what does Mrs Rizzi Allan think? “I like the new dinners more, because before they were a little bit boring, miserable and dull. There wasn’t much to choose from and they all tasted the same… So I got a new cook in,” Did you know she was the one who thought of the grab and go bags!? She MUST be EXTREMELY creative!

Reading CornerAre you wondering about the heroes / heroines in Greek mythology? Are you fascinated by gargantuan, flesh eating farmyard animals, and mutilations? If so, then this is the book for you.

As this is a fictional book, you might think I have gone a bit bonkers. But these events are true. Herakles. Everyone knows about him, however that’s usually only because of the Disney movie. Here is one fact that you probably, most definitely, don’t know about him. He killed his music teacher with a string instrument (Apollo,God of music, mustn’t have been happy). If I were him, I would have killed him there and then! What would you have done? A further Greek legend is Atlanta, who was abandoned as a child and left on a rock to die. Pretty sad right? This is what the Greeks did with unwanted children. She was raised by a bear and as a result she inherited its agility, strength and speed. If you enjoyed this book review then read Percy Jackson and the Greek Heroes. I would definitely recommend this book to older children.

I am so excited to tell you about this story it’s called ‘Stella the Star Fairy!’ I like itbecause it’s an adventure book and I love reading adventure tales and fairy books too! After finishing it all, I have found that my favourite character is Stella because she can do magic, fly and she looks beautiful! Rachel and Kirsty are characters who help Stella find all the magical and enchanted things. The goblins are very annoying they never leave the fairies alone. The King and Queen are very nice because they are always saving their world and it’s epic that they always have something in mind for Rachel and Kirsty to do to try and save the human world. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes fantastical booksI love it!

I have read a gory and interesting book about the plague in the 13th century and the 14th century (Black Death). When I was reading this book it made me feel like the plague was around me. I also felt a bit sick but I promise that this review will not make you feel the same way. While I was flicking through the pages, the gory details jumped out at me. WARNING: IF YOU DON’T WANT TO VOMIT PLEASE DON’T READ THIS NEXT SENTENCE! Grotesque details such as, that if you had the Black Death you would vomit blood, seemed to appear on every page. The Black Death went around the whole world (maybe not whole world but still quite a distance). The people who lived in Antarctica were lucky because the Black Death didn’t reach them - it was too far for the rats to go there. Horrible and terrible, annoying and exhausting, these irritating rats crawled over different parts of the world killing hundreds of thousands of people. ATTENTION: If anyone sees a rat (especially the black ones) RUUUUUUNNNNNN!

What are we Learning? We are learning about muck, mess and mixtures. So far we have explored what paint feels like and what sound it makes. I have really enjoyed the squelching noise and the ooze between my fingers. Pupils in the class have said that it feels like a really weird texture.

When you mingle two colours together it changes colour. For example, red and yellow make orange. It is interesting because we learned what lots of colours make together when mixed and they looked really colourful and beautiful.

Currently, we are learning about fierce ferocious predators. To begin with the Howler Monkey is the loudest animal on land. They like to scream to warn their prey that there are predators coming! Also Cheaters are the fastest animal in the world. They can reach up to 71 miles per hour.Did you know that Anacondas strangle their prey until their prey has suffocated and died (afterwards, the Anacondas gobbled them all up). As well as this, the Tiger Pistol Shrimp has a bubble that knocks their prey out.

I like this topic because it is very enjoyable, fun and exciting.

We are learning about aliterally breathtaking topic called, ‘The Blue Abyss’. So far we have explored the different zones, for example: sunlight, twilight, midnight Abyss and trenches. We have also explored the wildlife and have been introduced to creatures such as shy clownfish who like to hide behind rocks so preda-tors don’t squash them or eat them.

When my class saw what the new topic was they were like, ‘Ohhhh noooo!’ However, when they viewed a clip from ‘Finding Dory’ and found out that other fish are far more confident than fish like clownfish. They really enjoyed this topic.By Neilvia Kwarteng Y4

We are learning about agruesome topic called ‘Off with Her head’. It is about the terrible Tudors. An example of some of these Monstrous Monarchs are: Henry VIII and his six wives. Here is some more information on these Monstrous Maidens. Henry decided to rid Anne Boleyn of her seemingly pretty head and he had some bizarre reasons for this despicable beheading. One of the many reasons was she had supposedly committed treason on Henry. Henry presumed that Anne was disloyal. Anne had to feel excruciating pain for this terrible crime against this Terrible Tudor.

St. Bede’s are getting sporty!

The long wait is over! The St. Bede’s sports crew has finally been formed. They professionally organise sports contests. They also send their top reporters to top sports contests. Perfectly written, these reports can be seen on the sports crew web page.

Nearly two months ago, the team had their first meeting. In this gathering, they learned how to organise level one competitions. They were taught by a coach called Rose who taught them all about how contests work and how to make the teams to compete in their hand-made competitions. Their journalists are top class. These people are enthusiastic for all kinds of sport. They give up their time to write a great report for YOU. And what a job they do! You are now able to read the report for free. Exclusive to the sports crew web page. These people have an astronomical amount of work to do and here they have writtennumerous reports about many sports contests. Such as the most recent Athletics contest:

Hello! you join us live from the Marsh House Sports Centre for the long-awaited athletics tournament. I’m here with the lovely reporter, Rose Miller. We have had a bit of a break but we’re back with reports coming out of our ears! As you know everyone is fired up and ready to start. There are lots of schools here but we’re only here to report on St. Bede’s. The girls (who were racing first) had to endure the obstacle relay. They all did well on the jumps and the running! Everyone did an amazing job and we had a good chance of getting a medal!

Sports Competition!

The St. Bede’s sports organising crew, help put together competitions between children in this school. Slowly, they are working towards organising competitions between different schools. Approximately, two months ago they had their first meeting. During this meeting, Rose from Stockton sports organising crew taught them how to put a level one competitiontogether.

Busily, they put their heads together, in the I.C.T suit, where they chirped like birds as they created very interesting team names. Intrigued, they had lots of fun working in groups of two, thinking about which sportingactivities they would like to do. Buzzing with excitement, the children grasped a clipboard and a piece of paper and fanned out around the classes to do a survey. Children put their hands up for which sporting activities they like. They were allowed to put their hands up more than once as they wanted to know which activities they enjoy. Just before the meeting was over, the crew gathered together for a photograph. It is now up on the display board for everyone to see, along with a report ourjournalists (Rose Miller and Thomas Greenwood) typed up about the most recent tag rugby game.

Christmas Celebrations

At St Bede’s, the choir performs Christmas carols for our parents to see.During Christmas time, the school student council have a meeting and talk about the new Christmas food for the dinner counter so that other children are able to try new foods. Very soon, all of us will be nibbling on our yummy Christmas dinner! All the dinner nannies will be decorating the hall nice and sparkly for the Christmas dinner and the winter ball.

Here at St Bede’s school we perform the Nativity. The Nativity is a celebration of when Jesus was born in a gigantic wooden stable. We celebrate Christmas because Jesus was born in Bethlehem and the royal three kings followed a sparkling star in the night sky to find him!

Dear Lord,

Let us spend some time with our friends and family because Christmas is about family and friends.

Let us get in the Christmas spirit. Let us also pray for the poor and sick this year to make our world a better place.

Amen.
