Litteris et Virtuti is a Youth Monitor initiative that aims to identify and monitor relevant aspects concerning the education of youth, in a sound and objective manner. Education through the eyes of youth (2012) is the first deliverable under the Litteris et Virtuti brand. It is centered upon a quantitative study based on a statistic survey and the data and interpretation are improved by specific in-office research. The subjects approached include: the perception of youth related to the education process, the schools they are in, opinions and attitudes concerning the subjects of study, schoolmates, the connection between the curricula and their planned future occupations, volunteering, internship, etc. Who is this study intended for? Considering its relevance for society, we believe that the research published in the Litteris et Virtuti calendar will be of major interest for: • Government, public decision makers in the fields of education, youth, employment. • Nongovernmental organization focusing on education and youth, student or teacher organizations. • Romanian and international private companies which may be interested in this subject from various perspectives. We would like to mention, in this respect, the corporate social responsibility (CSR) component, as well as the human resources (employment, volunteering, internship, etc.) • Romanian youth, who will find here factual information regarding the evaluation of the education system. • Teachers and all the employees in the system who are interested in better understanding their professional environment. Litteris et Virtuti is part of the Youth Monitor platform and, as a consequence, is equally dynamic and energetic. This work is our first initiative. The project agenda of Litteris et Virtuti will soon include other works to round out the complex picture of the educational system in Romania with new perspectives. Furthermore, we will monitor the progress of certain indicators, in order to provide an evolutionary dimension to all those concerned.

Education is one of the central topics in young people’s lives. It is the base on which they build their future, the activity to which the dedicate most of their time and the core of their exist-ence during the school period in point of both individual development and socialization.

Litteris et Virtuti is a Youth Monitor initiativeintended to test the education-related phenome-na in Romania. The subjects approached include the perception of youth related to the education process, the schools they are in, opinions and at-titudes concerning the subjects of study, school-mates, the connection between the curricula and their planned future occupations, volunteering, internship, etc.

This report is the first deliverable under the Lit-teris et Virtuti brand.

It is centered upon a quantitative study based on a statistic survey and the data and interpre-tation are improved by specific desk research.

The Litteris et Virtuti calendar for the next period will include an update to the information in this re-port, in order to see the evolution of the subjects approached, as well as new topics. The future is-sues will be announced through the Youth Monitor website and through the partner media.

It also includes an in-depth analysis of empirical data from an anthropological perspective, made by Prof. Vintila Mihailescu, PhD, head of the Sociology Department of the School of Political Sciences at the National School of Political and Administrative Studies in Bucharest (SNSPA)

Either questioned or highly praised, school is one of the key components in young peo-ple’s lives. Generally speaking, school is an institutionalized system in which young people acquire knowledge.What do we learn? How much? How useful is what we study? How much do we forget? What are the methods by which we learn? There are many questions concerning the educa-tional system that are at the core of worldwide experts’ research efforts. These topics are always actual, as the education process is fluid, adapted, impacted by technological developments and by the evolution of society as a whole. We hear opinions everywhere on the situation of education in Romania. How it is, how it used to be, how it should be...We value the importance of school in the continuous training of young generations and we believe that this research, as part of the Youth Monitor platform, is both a necessary and natural initiative.

Litteris et Virtuti is a study that aims to identify and monitor relevant aspects concerning the education of youth in a sound and objective manner.We hope that the recurring measurements that we will provide through this project and the analyses and conclusions produced will assist and support the decision-making process in this particularly important sector.

Youth Monitor is the first marketing platform acting as a link between the local or international brands/companies and the youth segment in Romania. By various studies focusing on specific marketing topics, as well as on social subjects, Youth Monitor operates as an observatory for the business environment, responding to the need to know and measure various aspects and acting as a source of relevant subjects approached from different angles, by integrating informed and reliable opinions offered by various experts (sociologists, anthropologists, psychologists, teachers, healthcare professionals, etc.), business professionals (marketing specialists/marketing research) or other stakeholders having close connections with the younger generation (teachers, parents, etc.)

Youth Monitor is also a dedicated market intelligence resource and an out-of-the-box, two way communication platform with the youth. It collects & distributes up-to-date and relevant information, linking decision makers in the private or public sectors to the young ones around us.

One of the key contributions to the scientific development of Youth Monitor’s studies comes from Prof. Vintila Mihailescu, PhD, head of the Sociology and Political Sciences Department of SNSPA. He has an outstanding contribution to a deeper understanding of the younger segment of population, as well as to the process of defining the research objectives for a comprehensive and accurate perspective on the diverse aspects analyzed.

Youth Monitor is an initiative implemented in partnership by Brennan Research & Consultants and Quantix Marketing Consulting.
