The Widow

The hollow da

rkness of the

depths of her

inner extrem

e

conjured in a

flash of light

, the

pathos of her

life. Her wish

es of

living with her

dreams, turn

ed

unwholesome

the goblets o

f

her contentm

ent. Nostalg

ia

now gripped

her fissu

now gripped

her fissures ,

guilt

pierced thro

ugh her eyes.

She

had gone dea

f to life, to he

r

surroundings

, which gradu

ally

had appeared

superficial. H

er

thoughts wer

e clouded ,h

er

soul torn asu

nder. Past, wi

th his

cruel ecruel eyes sta

red at her, in

ces-

sant in his mi

sdemeanor. I

ntri-

cately entang

led thoughts.

Memories. N

ostalgia.

It had stayed

and poisone

d her

within. Her b

irth was a cel

ebra-

tion; every e

vening in her

days

beset with th

e most beau

tiful

dawns. Till, th

at noon dawn

ed

upon her. Eve

rything went

as it

was never me

ant to be. No

w,

life meant as

good as me

life meant as

good as mere

ex-

istence.

This was not

a noon but a

night

of still sky, be

reft of all the

stars. She gaz

ed at the bla

ck-

ness that wou

ld surround h

er

one day. It wo

uld smother h

er

self. A road to

destiny, re-

vealed---for

union.

Her husband

was there at

the

end of the ro

ad. He was w

aiting

for her. And,s

he would me

et

him. Amen.

The candle o

n the shelf bu

rned

mildly in her

eyes. It pose

d ele-

gantly,unaffe

cted by the c

harms

of a supercilio

us breeze. A

nd, she

gazed. Now

at the dark v

oid, now

at the subtle

candle light;

light

that was unk

nown, and ye

t too

depictive. De

pictive of the

past,of

days and

days and of l

ight. The can

dle

flame was he

r destiny. She

had to

enter it and f

indher husba

nd was

somewhere th

ere. Trapped

inside

the wax and

emitting his li

ght to

melt it. He w

ould not hav

e left

her otherwise

. Alone. Dying

.Craving. She

pic

.Craving. She

picked the ca

ndle

and crumble

d it. She unle

ashed

all her streng

th, breaking

the

shambles of a

long dorman

cy. He

did not appe

ar. The candle

lay

powdered on

the floor. The

wick

was burning,s

till burning. S

he

loolooked at it a

nd hoped. He

r eyes

were clear; h

er pearl eyes

. Futility

of every effo

rt made her s

tronger

in her missio

n to achieve u

nion.

Union with th

e one with b

lack

orbs and bla

ck hair and a

little

bulbous nose

. A nose that

ttouched her e

verytime he k

issed

her. His nose

. It turned col

d and

red during w

inters. Also,

when he

wept.When he

had cried sn

ug-

gled in her la

p. He had crie

d a

lot. A lot. Rea

lly.

And, why did

they kill him?

Her

beastly kin of

high birth. H

is

blood had gu

shed out in a

tor-

rent with eve

ry stab. She c

ould

imagine it.Sh

e could feel

every

stab so freshl

y painful, all

throughout. T

he phone bel

l had

scscreeched in

her ears. And

the

news had dea

fened her.

Why did they

not let her

go with him?

Perhaps, he

was still melt

ing the wax

in the candle

. He went in

it to hide onl

y to get him-

self trapped.

He would

come back a

nd take her

along. O

along. Or,she

would go on

her own.

She did. She

did go to a

world, a wor

ld so differ-

ent. Where h

e was every-

where.

The night is

clear today

with stars all

thither. She

has found he

r husband

inside the fla

me.They bot

h

burn togethe

r. Vain was

their misery, t

o happen

and be told.

The wido

The widow, w

idowed

by her own!
