What is different between listening and hearing

Hearing is simply the act of perceiving sound by the ear. If you are not hearing-impaired, hearing simply happens. Listening, however, is something you consciously choose to do. Listening requires concentration so that your brain processes meaning from words and sentences

Listening Vs Hearing The term"listening" has different meanings for

different people: Listening involve paying attention and maintaining

eye contact Remembering what has been said word-for- word Reading between lines to perceive the unspoken

message.

"None of them contains all elements of the effective listening“

Some individuals confuse listening with hearing.

Hearing is always occurring, most of the time subconsciously. Listening is the interpretative action taken by the listener in order to understand and potentially make meaning out of the sound waves.

Listening is often confused with hearing While hearing is a biological process that can be scientifically explained, listening is a neurological cognitive regarding the processing of auditory stimuli received by the auditory system

Definition of hearing

"A preliminary hearing in the Magistrates' Court in which the Crown presents evidence of sufficient weight to justify a conviction by jury in a higher court.

"A committal hearing is a preliminary hearing held in the Magistrates Court to determine whether there is sufficient evidence for an accused person to stand trial in a higher court on a serious(indictable")

Definition of listening Effective listening is listening to the words of the

speaker and the meaning of the words.

Active listening is a process in which the listener takes active responsibility to understand the content and feeling of what is being said and then checks with the speaker to see if he/she heard what the speaker intended to communicate.
