Fate often plays unpredictable tricks onus. It transforms people. Antonio

Guccione is one of them. He is one ofthe leading figures of the fashion photo-graphy, known worldwide for havingphotographed several artists such as Fel-lini, Versace, Ferré, Moschino, Armaniand others from the art, politics andshow biz world. When he was a kid andthrough all his adolescence he was sureto become a rock musician someday, in-

stead, the destiny had already decidedfor him. In fact, the encounter with awoman in London some time ago, chan-ged his plan. It is interesting to remem-ber how he frequently used to cut theheads of the people he photographed inthe early stage of his career. Bizarre forsuch an artist mostly renowned for thedepiction of several celebrities. Duringhis long career he collaborated with themost celebrated international fashion

magazine and spent some time in Paris,London and New York getting to loveabove all the last of the three. He thendecided to come back to Italy where theSkira publishing house paid tribute tohim with a book, “Fashion and faces”,presented at the MOMA in New YorkCity in 2006. New projects are underway,says Guccione. The next one will dealwith Milan and fashion by night. But thisis a secret that can’t be unveiled yet.

Sono curiosi i giochi del destino.Imprevedibili. Trasformano le

persone, le situazioni. Antonio Guc-cione, per esempio. Conosciuto intutto il mondo come un fotografodi moda, e ancora di più come l’ar-tista che ha ritratto alcuni dei perso-naggi simbolo della nostra epoca,da Fellini a Versace passando perArmani, Ferrè e Moschino, a fiancodi personaggi del mondo politico,dell’arte e dello spettacolo. Eppure,se il destino avesse scelto diversa-mente Antonio Gruccione – il foto-grafo – non sarebbe mai nato. “Hostudiato musica, e sarei diventatoun musicista rock se non fosse statoper l’incontro con una donna, aLondra, molti anni fa. E quella don-na ha cambiato la mia vita…” Cu-rioso il destino: un musicista si tra-sforma in fotografo, ma il fotografoche sarebbe diventato ama ricorda-re che nelle sue prime immagini ta-gliava regolarmente i volti delle per-

sone catturate dalle immagini. Stra-na coincidenza per un fotografo chein una lunga carriera ha fatto del ri-tratto uno dei pilastri della sua arte.Ma il destino così decide. Il resto lofanno la volontà e il desiderio diviaggiare: “Ho vissuto e lavorato aParigi, a Londra e a New York, unacittà che ho amato profondamente.Ho lavorato per le più grandi rivistedi moda internazionali, finché hoscelto di tornare in Italia…” L’editri-ce Skira ha reso omaggio a Guccio-ne con un volume, “Fashion and Fa-ces”, presentato al MOMA di NewYork nel mese di giugno 2006, cheripercorre attraverso le immagini lalunga e intensa carriera di questofotografo: “I nuovi progetti nonmancano – conclude Guccione – e ilprossimo riguarderà Milano e la mo-da, entrambe raccontate di notte.Ma è ancora un segreto, un segretoche richiede del tempo per esseresvelato…”

He is the author of nu-merous publications and is certainlyamong the most incisive of the world’sphotographers who have interpretedfashion and society using an internatio-nal language. He has also worked in ci-nema directing Alma by Karl Lagerfeld,John Paul II and Faces of New York. Hecurrently holds a teaching post at theNew Academy of Fine Arts in Milanand collaborates with the weekly ma-gazine Vanity Fair. His works can beseen in the major museums and artgalleries of the world.

E` attualmente do-cente della Nuova Accademia di BelleArti di Milano e collaboratore per ilsettimanale “Vanity Fair”. Le sue ope-re sono esposte nei piu` grandi museie gallerie d’arte del mondo.

Шутки судьбы порой оченьлюбопытны, непредсказуемы,

изменяют людей и ситуации.Например Антонио Гуччионезнаменитый во всем мире фотографмоды и еще более известныйфотограф-портретист,увековечивший многие персонажи-символы нашей эпохи такие как

Феллини, Версаче,Армани, Ферре иМоскино, многие политическиедеятели и люди искусства. Я работал наизвестнейшие международныежурналы моды, пока наконец нерешил вернуться в Италию…»Издательство Skira посвятилоГуччионе выпуск “Fashion and Fa-ces”. Он был презентован наНьюйоркском МОМА в июне 2006,

проиллюстрировав работамифотографа его долгий инасыщенный творческий путь: «Уменя нет недостатков в новыхпроектах – заключает Гуччионе – иследующий касается Милана имоды в ночном контексте. Есть иеще один секрет, уже давнопросящийся на волю... »
