Grosvenor Rd Pedestrian Crossing Update
Last Friday was our Crossing Supervisor’s last day. Roger has been
helping our children cross the road for several years now and we will
present him with a gift soon. Unfortunately, no casual or permanent
replacement has been found so at this point I have asked the Executive
Team to act as crossing supervisors for the afternoons only from 3 -
3.20pm. Please escort your children across the crossing in the mornings
as no supervision will be provided. Remind children to STOP, LOOK,
LISTEN and THINK before crossing the road. You may wish to ring the
RMS Crossing Supervisor Program on 1300 728 543 to indicate our
urgent need for a new supervisor.
New Wombat Pedestrian Crossing – work starts on
Monday
I have been informed this week by the Ku-ring-gai Council engineers that
the Grosvenor Road Pedestrian Crossing will be upgraded to a raised
Wombat Crossing. The work will commence on Monday and will continue
for three or four days. This will cause significant disruption to traffic during
this time as one lane on Grosvenor Rd will need to be closed to allow for
work to be done. Detours will be in place. I suggest that the Gladstone Pde
entrance be used for pick ups and drop offs. This crossing will benefit the
students as it should make the crossing more visible.
No Vehicle Access on Gladstone Parade entrance to
the school
Please note that no cars are permitted to enter the driveway on the
Gladstone Parade entrance to the school as this is a service entry only.
This is to protect our students and parents/carers as they enter the school.
This morning we had a ‘near miss’ as a driver dropped a student off in this
access road. Thank you for your cooperation.
Concert Band Entertains Cromehurst Special School
I was extremely proud to hear that Concert Band beautifully entertained the special needs students at
Cromehurst PS at Lindfield. They performed several pieces including ‘Tales of the Sea’, ‘Baby Elephant Walk’
and ‘Fire Dance’. The students danced and clapped in time and thoroughly enjoyed the concert.
City Country Alliance Conference
Lindfield PS is proud to be part of the City Country Alliance of schools whose goal
is to foster intercultural understanding. 30 city and country schools enjoy this
alliance and work closely with their sister schools. Mrs Scott, Mr Katrak and I
attended the conference. The conference was opened by Professor the
Honourable Dame Marie Bashir AD CVO and she spoke about the importance of
advocacy for marginalised and disadvantaged students and the role teachers can
play. Representatives from Menindee Central School shared the impact of their
programs and philosophy on their indigenous community. Wiley Park GHS used
dance to communicate cultural diversity and acceptance. Other presentations
focussed on bringing communities together and strengthening partnerships.
Amazing Artworks
6S combined art and maths to create a colourful display depicting
rotational symmetry. This involved high level mathematical
thinking and creativity and gave students a deeper understanding
of the concept of rotational symmetry. Class 1S took pride in
showing their parents and carers all their artwork and work
samples as part of a ‘Meet the Teacher’ event for Mrs Scott. The
frogs were very
welcoming!

Think U Know Cyber Safety Session
Lindfield Public School will be hosting a ThinkUKnow presentation on 14
June at 6:30pm in the school hall and all parents, carers and teachers
are encouraged to attend. This session is not for students - it is for adults
only. ThinkUKnow Australia is a cyber safety education program that
educates parents, carers and teachers in how people are using technology,
the challenges they may face online, and how to help them overcome these in a safe and ethical way.
For more information, you can visit http://www.thinkuknow.org.au/
Parents/Carers join the Garden Club for Lunch
Lindfield Public School Garden Club invites you to come and join us to help weed the playground on
Wednesday June 7 from 1:10pm till 2pm. All you need is to have your Working With Children Check which
may be completed at the front office (the form is also on the school’s website and you will need to bring 100
points of identification) and then sign in at the front foyer. The Garden Club meets outside Mrs Cornell’s
office near the swimming pool. Bring your gardening gloves and we hope to see you there!
Year 6 Snowbound
Year 6 students were excited to have a visit from one of the Sport and
Recreation teachers, Geoff, last Friday. Geoff spent time talking to Year
6 about what happens on camp, the activities they will take part in at
night and what to expect whilst learning or expanding their skiing skills.
Students appreciated the detailed slideshow that showed many pictures
of where they were staying and showcased what their experience staying
at the snow will involve. They are all looking forward to seeing Geoff in
Term 3 at camp.
Reconciliation Week
This week is National Reconciliation Week, which is a time to recognise
our Indigenous heritage and to celebrate the oldest living culture on
Earth. In our Years 3 – 6 assembly we displayed the Aboriginal flag. We
heard from Mrs Robyn Scott, who spent last year working at our sister
school, Alma Public School at Broken Hill, where she learnt a lot about
Indigenous culture. She shared her love of the Alma community,
including the stories being told by Aboriginal elders and their love for this
beautiful country.
Visible Learning
‘Visible Learning’ is happening in each classroom at LPS. This is the concept of seeing clearly what
teachers are teaching and what students are learning. In each Year 3 – 6 classroom the ‘Learning
Intentions’ and ‘Success Criteria’ are displayed. The learning intention is the aim or goal of the lesson. The
success criteria is what the student needs to do to be successful. In K-2 classrooms teachers display the
WALT – ‘We are Learning To’ and the WILF – ‘What I’m Looking For’. There are some great examples of
the visible learning happening in our classrooms pictured on the next two pages.

Anaphylaxis at Lindfield Public School
At Lindfield Public School in 2017, we have a small number of children with a potentially life threatening allergic reaction. They are found across our school from Kindergarten to Year 6. How can parents help these children?
If possible, choose alternative sandwich spreads to peanut butter and Nutella. If you have no alternative, inform your child that these foods can trigger an anaphylactic reaction.
Reinforce the school’s NO FOOD SHARING message.
NEW CANTEEN TEAM
With the recent changes to our Canteen, I would like to announce our new Canteen team. I would like to welcome Sarah Burnett, Claudette Mann and Katrina Tottenham, who bring with them a lot of experience, passion and energy. These wonderful ladies have been involved parents of the LPS community over many years and will be working hard to implement the new Canteen Strategy, which applies to all NSW public schools, over the next 2 years. Please pop by and say hello! If you would like more information regarding the proposed changes please click here

Thank you to our new Flexischools users
We would like to thank all our new parents and carers who have registered on Flexischools over the last few weeks for Friday lunch orders. This has made our Fridays much more efficient (no more forgotten lunch orders in kids’ bags) and cost effective. With the reduction in time spent counting, banking and recording cash taken by paid employees, the time saved can be directed towards implementing the new requirements provided by the NSW Ministry of Health with the aim of ensuring not only a nutritious menu but also affordable to all members of our school community. We hope you have enjoyed the convenience of online ordering.

Chess
A shock defeat to House Grammar from holy House St Ives North and suddenly nothing is the same. Could this finally be the year of House Lindfield? Round 4 of the NSW JCL was held last Friday and five of our teams were in action. Our thanks to the parents for driving and also to the parents who helped at Home. A mixed bag of results this week but three of our teams have moved into a dominating position in their competitions, and a fourth (our young G's) are moving into a last round showdown with our nemesis - Grammar. Lindfield A played St Ives North B for a 4-0 win (aggregate 16-0, 1st place); Lindfield B played last week (aggregate 8-8, equal 4th) ; Lindfield C played St Ives North G for a 1.5-2.5 loss (4.5-7.5, equal 7th); Lindfield D played Barker B for a 0-4 loss (5.5-10.5, 6th); Lindfield E played Barker C for a 4-0 win (14.5-1.5, 1st); Lindfield F had a Bye (16.5-3.5, 1st); Lindfield G played Sydney Grammar F for a 4-0 win (13-3, equal 1st.) This Friday sees four of our teams Away with Lindfield A visiting Lindfield East A, Lindfield B going to Knox A, Lindfield F visiting Abbotsleigh B for a double round and Lindfield G visiting St Ives North H. At Home Lindfield C hosts St Ives North I and Lindfield D hosts Knox C and Lindfield E hosts West Pymble A . Good luck teams!

Strings
Parents, please join us in watching our largest string group perform at Assembly this
Thursday.
AMADEUS: Assembly June 1. All children involved in Amadeus are performing at Assembly on Thursday.
Please listen to the announcement for when to head up to the Hall/music room.
Last Sunday we had our first Orchestra rehearsal with Megan and Adrian leading a very dynamic group of
young musicians. It was such a proud moment for all of us as we heard each child sight read two new
pieces of music. Yes, there were mistakes, but this is what sight reading is for. Reading music is not just
about black dots on a page. There are breath marks, accents, bowing, finger positions, tempo markings, key
signatures, time signatures, just to name a few, that these young musicians need to consider.
We all learnt some Italian terms, particularly that ‘ritardando’ not only means ‘to gradually slow down’ but it
really means ‘WATCH THE CONDUCTOR’!!!
If you would still like to join the Orchestra, please discuss it with your tutor and then let us know so that we
can point you in the right direction.
Please note the dates below for the term:
Term 2: April 26– June 30
o June 1 – K-2 Assembly: Amadeus to perform. o June 11 – 2:45-5:00 LPS Orchestra rehearsal in the hall (tbc) o June 12 - Public Holiday o June 18 – 20: Music Camp ALL ENSEMBLES o June 27 – Lindfield Blue Assembly – Vivaldi or Bachaldi to perform o June 29 – VIVALDI FoIM musicians rehearsal at Croydon Public
