SASS Recognition Week – Schools Need Us!

We are fortunate to have a dedicated team of administration officers helping our children, parents and

teachers across a wide range of tasks to keep our school running efficiently. Thanks to Lee Stewart,

Tania Fogden, Bhavna Chopra, Kathy Best, Carla Kapinga and Debbie Prosper for all their hard work in

the office. Thanks to Ken Nicol for attending to the maintenance around the school. This week we also

acknowledge our SLSOs (Student Learning and Support Officers) who work in the classroom and

playground to support our students’ learning needs. Thank you to our SLSOs Ellie, Brittany, Sharon and

Emily.

NAPLAN 2018

The results from this year’s NAPLAN online testing will be out shortly. School based results will be

available to Principals this week and the letters to parents about individual students will be issued from

13 September. The letter will include an explanation of the results.

Killara Schools Partnership Activities

ICT Workshop: Year 3 students from Lindfield Public School attended a Microbits challenge workshop

run by Mr. Harper and assisted by Year 10 Information and Software Technology students.

First, the primary students were introduced to how computers work and looked at how computers are

programmed (inputs and outputs). The Year 3 students were grouped together in pairs and given tasks

which required them to code using block codes and program the device (Microbit) in various ways that

required them to use their imagination in their work. It was a wonderful experience for everyone, and

everyone learnt something new in the process.

Written by KHS students - Suhaas Gambhir, Jessica Zhu, Rita Li and Nora Boukerch

Art Exhibition: Earlier this year some of our Year 4 students participated in an art enrichment workshop

at KHS. Their beautiful artworks were displayed as part of the KHS Art Exhibition which showcased HSC

works as well as amazing artworks from across all year groups. I was truly impressed with the standard

of art!

Our Emoji Disco will be held on Friday 28 September which is the last day of

Term 3. A note about this is being sent home today and can also be found

later on in this edition of the Lines. The theme is ‘Emoji’ and we invite students

to come dressed as their favourite Emoji! Tickets will be $10 for the disco

Year 6 are having a blast in Jindabyne!

Early on Monday morning 108 very excited Year 6 students headed to Jindabyne. The teachers have

reported that everyone is enjoying themselves and that the snow is just beautiful! Lots of students are

already skiing! We are looking forward to their return on Friday afternoon at approximately 3.30pm. We

will send urgent messages via the Skoolbag app if need be.

Kindergarten Showcase

We loved welcoming our 2019 Kindergarten students and their families to watch our Kindy Showcase

last week. The boys and girls even went on a guided school tour. We saw lots of smiling faces and

students enjoyed getting their ‘Passports’ stamped during the tour that was led by Year 6 students. Our

Senior Choir, Stage Band, Class KS, Infants Dance Troupe and Ravel performed beautifully for our new

students.

Application for Year 5/6 Extension Class 2019

We will be holding a Parent Information Evening on Thursday 20 September 2018 in the school Library

commencing at 6.15pm for Year 4 students who are keen to try out for the Extension Class. Notes were

sent out this week with more information.

The Fire Brigade Visits LPS

On Friday the NSW Rural Fire Service

visited LPS to tell Year 5 and 6 Students all

about Bushfires. Students learnt about the

different types of fires and how residents

can protect their homes and community.

CARES

This week, Year 5 students participated in a Community and Road

Education Scheme (C.A.R.E.S.) excursion to St Ives as part of the

Stage 3, PDHPE program. Students have been taken through an

extensive road safety program on bicycles learning about how to

safely ride a bike. Even though it was wet, they all had a great time

and learnt a lot about bike safety.

Student Writing Samples

Please enjoy some writing samples from our wonderful students who have

been using the ‘Seven Steps to Writing Success’ program

Where The Wild Things Are One night, I got sent to bed without any dinner. I was starving! I closed my eyes and found myself on a tiny boat built just for me. The boat was automatic. After many years, it stopped by a tiny forest. It was a dark and mysterious forest. Through the darkness, I saw many eyes peeking out of the holes in the trees. I was scared, but I thought to myself, “I have come a long way, I shouldn't give up now.” So, I walked closer to the eyes peering at me and a tiger leapt out from behind the darkness. I wondered if all the other eyes were also tigers? But, I was wrong. They were all different animals. I was so scared that I wanted to go back home again. I hopped back onto my tiny automatic boat and sailed back home safely and peacefully. By Yolandy L 2T

Our Acknowledgment of Country

We would very much like to pay our respects to the Indigenous people who have traditionally owned and taken care of this land. We have a living culture that we shall acknowledge, respect and remember.

We look from the top of Mount Kosciuszko to create a thank you to everyone who put effort into making this country what it is today. It is very important to pay our respects to every aboriginal person, their relatives and ancestors that have taken care of this wonderful country for centuries. We thank you and welcome you to this magical country.

The Jungle House

On Tuesday the 14th of August Joseph’s house turned into a jungle. His Mum and Dad were gone and Joseph was seeing his living room change. He was flabbergasted. The couch had turned into a crocodile, the armchair was a gorilla and the TV was changing. In the kitchen the kettle had turned into a cat. Then he went to the bathroom. The sink was beginning to look human, it had a mouth, eyes, nose and a foot!

He does not know what is going on. If you have any information about these changes please call me.

Description

My silk magenta slipper grew a black wing. It feels so soft I never want to let it go. I hear it begin to chirp. Then suddenly it grew another wing and was turning into a bird. I can hear its wings rustle together. Then it flies out the window and now it’s on the wall. It has changed from a slipper and is now a bird.

Joseph Kaye’s House is Changing

It happened on Tuesday 14 August at 15 Juddas St Rosetarmon. At 10:30am Mr Kaye noticed his kettle was meowing. He started freaking out so he went into his bedroom. When he went in he saw his slipper was turning into a bird. He tried to put it on but it flew away.

Then he went into the living room and it was like a zoo. The couch was a crocodile and the armchair was a gorilla. He got very scared. Joesph Kaye said ‘it was so scary, I freaked out a lot.’

If someone knows what’s happening please call me.

Work on Display

Anaphylaxis at Lindfield Public School At Lindfield Public School in 2018, we have a small number of children with a potentially life threatening

allergic reaction. They are found across our school from Kindergarten to Year 6.

How can parents help these children?

If possible, choose alternative sandwich spreads to peanut butter and Nutella. If you have

no alternative, inform your child that these foods can trigger an anaphylactic reaction.

Reinforce the school’s NO FOOD SHARING message.

Please note, no students are allowed to bring

glass bottles to school for safety reasons

Social Justice

Pre-loved BOOKS for children in drought

There are many children affected by drought. They are busy going to

school and helping their families to feed animals each morning and

night.

Would you like to show these children we are thinking about them?

A book would be a great escape and lovely way for them to relax.

The Social Justice Committee supports Rural Aid's Buy a Bale and

would like to assist families under stress by showing we care.

Your child may like to attach a note inside the book.

Please gather:

New or used children's books for drought affected families.

Picture books, novels or activity books are all welcome.

Where: Library foyer collection box

Images from this week show how dry it is in western NSW.

Sharing some great books with children in difficult circumstances will

really help.

Thank you for your support.
