Sjusjoen, Norway. Photo: Bjorn HeidenstromPlace: Sjusjøen is a Norwegian skiing and cycling heaven. It is 750–1000 meters above sea leve, about 20 km east of the centre of Lillehammer Place on Google Map: 61.169353, 10.663164

What: Cross-country-skiing, Haiking, Cycling, fishing, hunting. Sjusjøen is voted the best cross-country skiing destination in Norway and the mountain plateau South of Sjusjøen is Hedmarksvidda.

Nordseter and Sjusjøen were originally mountain farm communities, which - with their easily accessible forest and mountain terrain - have developed into skiing destinations. The area offers a wide range of skiing alterna-tives, including approx. 350 km. of prepared cross-country trails. This is the biggest cross country skiing terrain in the world. The tracks run all the way to Lillehammer and Øyer, and connect with the Olympic tracks at the Birkebeineren Ski Stadium. The trails go through forested and mountain terrain, and are clearly signposted.Sjusjøen gives you: fishing, hunting, haiking, cycling, horse riding, skiing and dog sledge.

How: Take the train/buss/car from Oslo. Train: stops in Lillehammer and you swop to buss that takes ca 35 minutes to Sjusjøen. You can hire private, use hotel, cabins, or camping wagon. Best: brin your tent and sleep outdoors.

Help: www.sjusjoen.com, www.visitsjusjoen.com and good info is: www.ut.no and planning on www.lommekjent.no. I did a lot of my planning on Garmin Base camp ( free software)

Awassa, EthiopiaPhoto: Bjorn HeidenstromPlace: Awasa is a city in Ethiopia, on the shores of Lake Awasa in the Great Rift Valley. It is located 270 km south of Addis Ababa via De-bre Zeit, 130 km east of Sodo, and 75 km north of Dilla. Google Map: 7.045681, 38.455603

What: cycling, haking, fishing. Awassa serves as the capital of the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples’ Region, and is a special zone of this region. It lies on the Trans-African Highway 4 Cairo-Cape Town, and has a latitude and longitude of 7°3′N 38°28′ECoordinates: 7°3′N 38The town serves as the capital of the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples’ Region, and is a special zone of this region. It lies on the Trans-African Highway 4 Cairo-Cape Town, and has a latitude and longitude of 7°3′N 38°28′ECoordinates: 7°3′N 38°28′E and an elevation of 1708 me-ters.

Awasa was capital of the former Sidamo Province from about 1978 until the province was abolished with the adoption of the 1995 Constitution. Postal service is provided by a main branch; electricity and telephone service are also available.Important local attractions include the St. Gabriel Church and the Awassa Kenema Stadium. Fishing is a major local industry.

How: I cycled there from Norway and I just know the road from the north/south. My best advice: be ready for kids that throws stones on cy-clists( yes they do) and use time to get new friends that can coach and ”guide”. Read all you can get of the history - it will help you make new mates. If going south on road 80 to Kenya; stop in Moyale and listen to lokal advice before going over the boarder to Kenya.

Lake Malawi, MalawiPhoto: Bjorn HeidenstromPlace: Lake Malawi. I started cycling in Egyp and ended in South Africa The best place i was in Africa was Lake Malawi. Place on Google Map: -11.604224, 34.300353

What: Cycling, haiking, diving, fishing, paddling. Lake Malawi the southernmost lake in the East African Rift system, located between Ma-lawi, Mozambique and Tanzania. It is the ninth largest lake in the world and the third largest and second deepest lake in Africa. It is home to more species of fish than any other lake including about 1000 species of cichlids. The Mozambique portion of the lake was officially declared a re-serve by the Government of Mozambique. Lake Malawi is between 560 kilome-tres and 580 kilometres long, and about 75 kilometres wide at its widest point. The total surface area of the lake is about 29,600 square kilome-tres. The lake has shorelines on western Mozambique, eastern Malawi, and southern Tanzania. The largest river flowing into it is the Ruhuhu River, and there is an outlet at its southern end, the Shire River, a tributary that flows into the very large Zambezi River in Mozambique.

How: I was cyclin but uesd ferry on the lake. It is rooms to rent in north and south in the lake. Good lodges are now to be found the length of the lakeshore, with a few collections in areas of particular beauty. Between Mangochi and Monkey Bay is a long line of wonderful beaches bac-ked by a variety of accommodation. Senga Bay is another place where there are a number of lodges & hotels, and it benefits from being the closest point on the lake to Lilongwe. Bring your mosquito net. Friendly people.

From The Spanish Fortress, Hvar, CrotiaPhoto: Bjorn HeidenstromPlace: I´m taking the photo from the spanish Fortress, Hvar, Coatia. Place on Google Map: 43.174701, 16.442192

What: I´m 47 years old. I´v ben in 46 countries. Hvar is the best hollyday destination I have been to. I haiked, cycled, paddeled, and di-ved. The city of Hvar has a long and distinguished history as center for trade and culture in the Adriatic . An independent commune within the Ve-netian Empire during the 13th to 18th centuries, it was an important na-val base with a strong fortress above, encircling town walls and protec-ted port. Cultural life thrived as prosperity grew, and Hvar is the site of one of the oldest surviving theatres in Europe, opened in 1612. The seven-century old walls still survive, as do many of the noble houses and public buildings from 15th - 17th centuries.

How: Go to Split and take a Ferry. On Hvar you can chose hotel, privat, and pensione. In a hurry? It will stand 10-20 persons with signs that wants to rent you a rom or appartemen when you go of the ferry. Haiking is 70-90% with signs. Cycling is easy with the Hvar maps. You can dive everywhere and hire sit-on-top-kayaks in many bays. No danger, but one man has been biten by a shark on th eiseland Vis ( he had 7-10 dead and bloody fishes around his waist...)

Moremi, Botswana. Photo: Bjorn HeidenstromPlace: The best wild life I´v seen in my life. It was after 320 days on a cycle and I found a safari that asked for 30 Pound Sterling

What: Guided trips in car and boats. I slept in a tent in base camp. This gem of a National Park has garnered a number of important distinc-tions. in 2008, it was voted the ‘best game reserve in Africa’ by the prestigious African Travel and Tourism Association at South Africa’s pre-mier tourism fair, Indaba. It is the first reserve in Africa that was established by local residents. Concerned about the rapid depletion of wildlife in their ancestral lands – due to uncontrolled hunting and cattle encroachment – the Batawana peo-ple of Ngamiland, under the leadership of the deceased Chief Moremi III’s wife, Mrs. Moremi, took the bold initiative to proclaim Moremi a game re-serve in 1963.It is the only officially protected area of the Okavango Delta, and as such holds tremendous scientific, environmental and conser-vation importance. And, undoubtedly, Moremi ranks as one of the most beau-tiful reserves in Africa, possibly in the world.

How: Botswana offers the traveller a choice of accommodation options from top class hotels, luxury lodges and safari camps, to budget guest-houses and camping grounds. The major tourist areas have a choice of pri-vate lodges, safari camps, and public camping sites. Go: www.botswanatou-rism.co.bw/ and make your pic.
