Dear Prospective Candidate,

Thank you very much for your interest in this post and our school. This is a very exciting opportunity for an

individual who is talented, hard-working and ambitious and keen to work with us as we strive to make a difference

to the young people in our community.

I have been Headteacher since September 2008. Flint High School is growing in popularity and now has a good

reputation in the locality. We believe this is due to our increasing examination performance, our commitment to

inclusivity and pastoral care, our partnership with parents and a determination to improve at all levels. We embrace

change, if we feel it is right for us; we were the first school in Flintshire to have a parent portal and the first school in

Wales to have ‘its learning’ as our VLE. We have just announced a 6th

form partnership with St Richard Gwyn

Catholic High School, which starts in Sept 2013 for our new Year 12 students. We are expecting 6th

form numbers to

expand gradually as a consequence (currently 80 students are in the 6th

form)

As well as our very good Estyn inspection in January 2012, when we were judged as good with excellent prospects

for improvement, we were placed in Band 1; this means we are in the top 10% of schools in Wales based on a range

of indicators, including value–added, examination performance and attendance. In 2011, we were in Band 2. The

Creative Arts department is highly respected and valued. Examination results have significantly improved both at

Key Stage 4 and the Sixth Form. The contribution made to the life of the school cannot be under-estimated;

students thrive and flourish both in lessons and in performances and productions.

Obviously the Drama & Music Departments work very closely together and the successful Teacher will find

themselves working in a close-knit, highly supportive team.

This post is 0.6 at the moment, with a likelihood of additional work in other subject areas, depending on the

candidate and by negotiation.

There is a growing divergence between the Welsh and English education systems but if you currently work in

England, please do not let that deter you from applying; the principles and practice of high quality teaching and

learning and strong leadership skills remain the same, irrespective of which country you work in.
