VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS During Term One, Kim submitted an application for our school to be involved in the ‘Creative Workers in Schools Initiative”. The Creative Workers in Schools program has been developed by a partnership between Regional Arts Victoria, the Victorian government through Creative Victoria, Working for Victoria and the Department of Education and Training. Earlier this term, we were very excited to hear that we had been successful in our application. Chantelle Fava has begun working with Kim to design our approach to Visual and Performing Arts during Terms two and three. Chantelle and Kim will work collaboratively with students to design and deliver a creative project that will support learning across the Victorian Curriculum. We are very excited to welcome Chantelle as part of our team! NAPLAN Congratulations to all of our Year 3 and 5 students who completed the NAPLAN assessments this week. The students can be incredibly proud of their resilience and growth mindset! Enjoy your weekend, Chelsey GREETINGS FROM OUR CREATIVE WORKER I am super excited to be paired with Lethbridge P.S through Regional Arts Victoria. I am a current industry professional as well as a Mum to 4 boys, so I am looking forward to teaching my performing arts program, 'I AM' each week for term 2 and 3. This program will focus on the inner monologue and embodying thoughts into dance & movement. We will also explore visual art, circus & puppetry!

- Chantelle WINTER SPORTS REPORT On the 7th of May, the year 3 to 6 students

participated in Winter Sports at Bannockburn

College. There were three events to choose

from, football, netball and soccer which were

enjoyed by all. We played with and against

Inverleigh, Anakie, Teesdale, Meredith and

Shelford. In football the 3-4 team won 2 out of

the three games that they played, and the 5-6

team won 1 out of 3 games but lost by a goal in

the first game. In soccer the 3-4 team won 1

out of 5 games. All the other games they

played were tied. The 5-6 team won 3 out of 5

games but another was a draw. Netball had

some losses and quite a few wins.

Congratulations to all who went to Winter

Sports and represented Lethbridge Primary

School.

SRC UPDATE We will be fundraising for Cancer Council Victoria this term. On Wednesday June 2nd, we will have a Pyjama Day! We will ask you to donate a gold coin to participate. Hot chocolate and biscuits will also be available for 50 cents each. Order forms will be sent home soon.

Alison Matthews & our SRC 2-6 Drama! Yesterday we did drama with Drama Victoria and we learned about tension! Tension is what we can feel when we don’t know what is going to happen next. We acted out some funny actions in our warm up, like walking through big thick slimy honey then big sloppy yoghurt, then we acted out some tension scenes. We did a soldier helping its friend, a soldier hanging from a slippery rough rope then another soldier helping the other soldier from falling off the rope. Then we were waiting for a super slow bus thinking we might have missed an excursion, then we acted as a sneaky kid coming home late at night and the super cross parent was watching the sneaky kid, then a student trying to quickly finish their test when there’s 4 minutes left to finish the test then the teacher says “pencils down”! We have also learned about status, such as a

high status knight and a poor low status

beggar and a medium status teacher

and a super high status king, also a high

status principal !

We are excited by this excellent program and

cannot wait for the next session. By Jackson D and Tomas (Grade 2/3R) CAMPS, SPORTS AND EXCURSIONS FUND (CSEF) School camps provide children with inspiring experiences in the great outdoors, excursions encourage a deeper understanding of how the world works and sports teach teamwork, discipline and leadership. Families holding a valid means-tested concession card or temporary foster parents are eligible to apply. $125 per year is paid for eligible primary school students. A special consideration eligibility category also exists. Payments are made directly to the school and are tied to the student. To be eligible for the fund you must:

• on the first day of Term two;

• a) Hold a Veterans Affairs Gold Card, Centrelink Health Care Card (HCC), Pensioner Concession Card (PCC), OR

UPDATED: COVID-19 Health and Hygiene Protocols

Dear Families, Below you will find a comprehensive list of protocols the school will be following, in order to reduce risk to our staff and students, of transmission of COVID-19 in our community. Please take the time to familiarise yourselves with the requirements, and to talk with your child/ren about what to expect. There are a number of changes in place for their protection. Your main message should be that by following these guidelines, we take care of our health and wellbeing.

General precautions

• The school will be thoroughly cleaned by our cleaning company during the school day, and again after

school, including tables and chairs, and with a focus on high touch areas.

• Each class will have sanitizer and wipes for cleaning, in addition to cleaning spray and chux.

• Parents are to maintain 1.5m physical distancing. Parents may attend the office, one person at a time,

observing the physical distancing protocol, if the contact cannot be made in an alternative manner (eg

collecting or returning equipment). Parents entering the office are required to wear a mask.

• Children with symptoms compatible with COVID-19 including coughing, sneezing, runny nose,

temperature, breathing difficulties, sore throat or any respiratory symptoms will be isolated in the sick

bay for immediate collection.

• Adults will remain 1.5m apart at all times possible.

• NDIS and SSS staff will be allowed entry to the school.

• The Mobile Phone policy remains in place. Student phones are to be left at the office and will be wiped

clean.

• Lunches will not be heated by staff, as we will not handle student food unless absolutely essential. There

will continue to be no food sharing.

• PPE will be used in sick bay where appropriate.

Entering and Exiting school • Students will use hand sanitizer as they enter classrooms

• There is no change to drop off times, as families arrive over a period of time already.

• All students will be dismissed from their classroom at 3.20pm. Students will exit the school through their

allocated gate.

During Class Time

• All students sanitise hands as they enter and exit the classroom.

• All students sanitise/wash hands before and after eating.

• All students sanitise/wash hands before and after toileting.

• Students use their own stationery.

• During class minimise shared equipment wherever possible. Individual materials sets will be provided

where possible.

• Teachers wipe down shared equipment immediately before and after use.

• Doors and / or windows to be kept open as much as possible for fresh air flow

• Where appropriate classes will be held outdoors.

• Assemblies will continue to be held virtually, and watched in classrooms.

During Breaks • Prior to exiting the classroom, students are reminded not to touch their faces.

• Encourage non-contact sports

Page 8: LETHBRIDGE PRIMARY SCHOOL

• Playground and sports equipment can be shared as student hands will be regularly sanitised

• Own toys (eg Bey Blades) cannot be shared.

Department of Education -Reinforcing COVIDSafe behaviours information for families

Stay home when unwell The most important action school communities can take to reduce the risk of transmission of coronavirus (COVID-19), is to ensure that any unwell staff and students remain at home and get tested, even with the mildest of symptoms.

Students with underlying conditions (such as hay fever or asthma) If a student has persistent symptoms due to an underlying condition such as hay fever or asthma, the student should still be tested for coronavirus (COVID-19) if they develop symptoms that are different to or worse than their usual symptoms. Parents/carers should also consider getting a medical certificate from the child’s treating GP to confirm that it is safe for them to attend school with persistent symptoms that may overlap with some of the symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19) such as cough or runny nose.

Young children with persistent mild symptoms Younger children (in grades Prep to 2) who have had a negative coronavirus (COVID-19) test that was taken after they developed symptoms, the decision about return to school should be made in conjunction with the child’s treating GP. If the GP is satisfied the child has recovered from their acute illness, is otherwise well, and does not need a repeat coronavirus (COVID-19) test, the child can return even if they are not completely free of symptoms. Any worsening of symptoms will require review and repeat coronavirus (COVID-19) testing, if considered appropriate by the doctor. Students with a negative coronavirus (COVID-19) test whose symptoms have completely resolved do not need a medical certificate to return to the school.

Thank you for playing your vital role in helping us to protect our community members. By following these protocols, we plan to ensure to the best of our ability that we can maintain the progress we have made in slowing the spread of COVID-19.
