Many elderly people don’t want to move

In my working facilities, many elderly people receive care. There are a lot of elderly people who cannot move because of a disease or illness. They often do not want to leave their room because they feel tired and do not wish to meet other people.

Let me show you some examples that elderly people change their attitude to more active life.

A withdrawn and bedridden person moved outside by themself

This woman cannot move her body as expected, because she fell down many times at home, she entered our facility at her will. But She felt depressed very much, she shut herself up in her room without associating with another person. I introduced myself and made an effort to have her trust me. And I led her so that she could do something, and that she wanted to do little by little, and decided to do it little by little. Then, like a photograph, she could go out of the room and came to be able to produce various pieces of art in front of all.

This person is the woman that requires assistance to live her life. She attends the facilities from her home. She can move her hands and feet, but can hardly move her body at home. She can hardly talk. She was hardly able to exercise. I evaluated her to see what things she is interested in and what she can do.One day I watched the gesture that she was going to smell the flower when she found it. Then every day, I took her to touch a flower. She came to be interested in flowers. The expression of her face became gradually brighter. And she was able to make an artificial flower. (she put a petal of the cloth on the whisk.)

This woman has a visual disorder. Because a single life became difficult, she entered the aged care facilities. It is not easy for her to go out of the room because there is a visual disorder. Naturally she did not go out. She had a restroom in her room. She wants medicine many times. I led her by the hand and walked the corridor of the facilities many times. This is for her to understand the lay out of building. And we talked. She said that she wanted to cook. She cooked together. She became able to go out alone from the room. She made friends with the people of the same facilities.

Summary

Japan is a long-lived country. I hear that the average life span gradually gets longer. However, the time when we are unhealthy becomes long because we have life-sustaining treatment. Therefore the period to receive care seems to become long.

In my working in aged care facilities, there are many one and bedridden people staying indoors. As a result of them finding pleasure, and having lived with a definite aim, they could go out of the room, and a bedridden person came to move their body. In Japanese there are many aged care facilities, for an elderly person needing assistance because of an injury, a disease and dementia.

Most of users are older and are an impression that there are many who live without having a purpose. The Japanese life is prolonged. As a result, the period to need care becomes long. Even if we grow old, I can enjoy life.Creating leisure is an important approach that we are taking.

When we have leisure, we move. I think that we should carry it out.

To make people move we evaluate one, make a plan and carry it out. I repeat this cycle over and over again. Success and the failure become the assessment in anything, too. I cannot understand the one if not repeated. It may not be necessary to be repeat, if I do not give an individual response. In addition, it is important that oneself sometimes backs away. This is because getting too close may produces a dependence feeling for the person.
