(Launch) Warm Up/Introduction (Bak)10 minutes Students will apply their previous knowledge from previous sections in order to solve the problems below. Then, students will be introduced to the concept of substituting trigonometric formulas with x in order to simplify and solving equations. Solve sin(x)+2=3 for 0° < x < 360° Solve 2 sin x = 1 x^2+2x+1 x^2+5x+6 (Explore)40 min/ 30 min Students will first work step by step with the instructor in order to guide them in solving the problems. Then, students will work in groups where teamwork is important in solving problems as quickly as possible. Students will approach problems by splitting them up within their respective group members. As the students are already comfortable with their group members, I don’t foresee any challenges. Examples of questions to ask groups are: How are you guys planning to split up work? Do you guys need help with the next step etc… Student difficulties relating to solving the problem could be applying previous chapters, but with a little practice students should be able to overcome those difficulties. (Summarize) 5 minutes Students could share ideas on different ways of approaching problems in a way that makes sense to the individual. In order to manage students’ so that everyone is appreciated is by calling on students randomly to explain their approach to problems. The sequence that will be shared to them is to approach the problem as a quadratic equation and apply prior knowledge. The reason for such approach is because all of the students’ have been exposed to the quadratic equation a fair number of times, and everyone should be able to apply it universally. Our summarize sequence will serve to reinforce the goal and to make sure students’ have an understanding of the important takeaways of the lesson.
