Grammar

• 吗 is the interrogative particle. The most common way to turn a sentence into a question is to place the particle 吗 at the end of the sentence.

• 呢 is the modal particle. It is used after a noun, pronoun, or phrase to turn the sentence into a question.

• 是 is a linking verb. It acts like an equal sign between nouns, pronouns, or noun and pronoun.

• 也 is an adverb place before a verb. 也 cannot be placed at the beginning or end of a sentence.

• Chinese sentences usually consist of a subject and a predicate. e.g., 你好 . 好 is an adjective. In Chinese, adjective are stative verbs that can be used as a predicate.

• 你,我,她(他) are pronouns.• 不 is an adverb. It is used to form a negative.

Grammar:

• 您 is the polite form of 你 (singular) It is normally used to address one's elders or those with a higher social status.

• 您贵姓 is the polite way to ask someone's surname. To answer this question it is commonly replies with his/her surname or his/her full name.

• 什么 is the interrogative pronouns. It can be used alone to ask "what?" It is commonly placed before a general noun when requesting more specific information. In Chinese, the question word (who, what, where, which, when, how) occurs where the expected answer would be

e.g. 你叫什么名字 ? 我叫小龙。

• 谁 is the interrogative pronoun. It is used as 什么 .
