The “writing?” referring to the Bible
2 Timothy 3:16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.
2 Peter 1:21 For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
John 14:26 But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.
What is the Bible?

1 Corinthians 2:13
This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words.

Revelation 22:18-19
I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book. 19) And if anyone takes words away from this book of prophecy, God will take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book.
What is the Bible?
It is God’s unchanging word therefore we should not add or subtract anything from the Bible.
2 Timothy 3:15-17
…from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16) All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17) so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
Why Did God Give Us the Bible?
To teach us the way of salvation (deliverance) by trusting in Jesus.
To guide us in God-pleasing living after we have come to trust Jesus as our Savior.
What are the two main teachings (doctrines) of the Bible?
(John 1:17) For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
(Romans 1:16) I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes…
The Law (God’s Commands) Exodus 20 (10
commandments) Romans 3:20 Therefore no
one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of sin.
Galatians 3:10 All who rely on observing the law are under a curse, for it is written: "Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law."
Do! Don’t do! What to do and not to do.
Shows our sin, mirror; x-ray
Condemns all
The Gospel (God’s Promises) (John 19:30) When he had
received the drink, Jesus said, "It is finished." With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
(Luke 2:14) "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests."
(Romans 1:16) I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.
Done! Tells us what God has done for our salvation
Shows our Savior
Has the power to save all who believe
Luke 11:28
"Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it."
How does God want us to use the Bible?
Read and study it
To live according to it
Through it he will strengthen (confirm) us in our Christian faith and life
