Tues 26th Feb

DO NOW:

1.What are the common features of natural landscapes?

Relief, vegetation, soil, climatic processes and other natural processes

Level 2 Geography

Page 2: Lesson 1 - Intro

Skills – pg48

Due: Friday 29th Feb

No essay practice this week.

Homework for Week 5:

Page 3: Lesson 1 - Intro

Learning Intention:

To be able to identify the similarities in climate, vegetation and relief patterns.

Natural Landscapes

Page 4: Lesson 1 - Intro

Relief… look at an atlas

Page 5: Lesson 1 - Intro

1.What patterns can we see?- Linear pattern of high relief on the West

coasts of North and South America- Most of the world is lowlands – just above

sea levelWhat processes have created these

patterns?- Tectonic processes, climatic process

(erosion), volcanic processes

Relief… look at an atlas

Page 6: Lesson 1 - Intro

Can you see the similarity in the patterns?

Page 7: Lesson 1 - Intro

Global Pattern Of Earthquakes 1963 - 1988

Can you see the similarity in the patterns?

Page 8: Lesson 1 - Intro

Climate… look at an atlas

Page 9: Lesson 1 - Intro

1.What patterns can we see?Hot areas are close to the equator, and cold areas close

to the North and South Poles.

2.What processes have created these patterns?

Climatic processes (looking at all the different kinds of weather and how weather is created)

3.Are there any similarities to the relief patterns.

The colder areas are where there is high relief.

Climate… look at an atlas

Vegetation… look at an atlas

Page 11: Lesson 1 - Intro

Vegetation… look at an atlas

Page 12: Lesson 1 - Intro

1.What patterns can we see?Tundra is near the poles. Deserts are above and below

the tropics. Tropical rainforests are in the tropics.

2.What processes have created these patterns?

Climatic processes

3.Are there any similarities to the climate patterns and the relief patterns.

The type of vegetation relies on the kind of climate. The climate is tied into the relief (eg the high relief is cold).

Reflection1.Have you achieved today’s

Learning Intention?

2.Write down any questions that you have from today’s lesson.

Learning Intention:

To be able to identify the similarities in climate, vegetation and relief patterns.

Page 14: Lesson 1 - Intro

• What is tundra?Tundra is areas where climate hinders the growth of the vegetation. There is mainly just lichens, mosses, grasses and small shrubs.

• What is the tropic of Capricorn and Cancer? These are lines of latitude that lie 23° north and south of

the equator. • what is the equator? The equator is the latitude line 0° which runs around the centre of the earth.

• What is a tectonic process? These are the processes of the tectonic plates moving. Tectonic plates divide the earth’s crust. Earthquakes, and volcanoes occur as a result of tectonic processes.

• What is a climatic process? These are processes that create the different temperatures around the world.
