A w o r d f r o m o u r C E O

Over 2500 years ago, Carthaginians introduced vine in Morocco, making our country one of the first wine producers in the world. Under the Roman Empire, our vineyard expanded rapidly. Moroccan wines were already greatly appreciated in Europe, especially in Rome and Lutetia (Paris). In the 19th century, the Moroccan vineyard was destroyed by the phylloxera like all the vines of the Mediterranean basin.

It is during the French protectorate (1912-1956) that vine has been reintroduced in Morocco with traditional varieties from the south of France such as cinsault, carignan, grenache, clairette and ugni blanc. Moroccan wines were exported in bulk, mostly towards France.

In 1967, the application of the Treaty of Rome prohibited the blending of European and foreign wines. Naturally, national producers evolved towards bottled wines bringing forth the rebirth of the Moroccan Label.Instrumental to this renaissance, Brahim Zniber, through Les Celliers de Meknès, created the first wines with appella-tions of origin Guerrouane and Beni M’Tir, which are among the most famous in Morocco.

In 1991, Brahim Zniber is also one of the chief actors of the vineyard’s renewal with the introduction of noble grapes such as cabernet sauvignon, merlot, shiraz, chardonnay…Associated with important investments in technology of vinification, the quality of Moroccan wines has not ceased to improve. The numerous medals obtained in prestigious international wine challenges attest it.Today, our wines are recognized and largely appreciated around the world.

It was in 1956 that Mr. Brahim Zniber began his journey as a wine maker.

His passion for the land and vines , combined with a fierce desire to give its nobility back to the Moroccan wines , led to the creation of the ancestor of Les Celliers de Meknes: the « Samavin » company, that became over the time “Meknes Vins”, then « Les Celliers de Meknes.»

Les Celliers de Meknes is now the largest wine making company in Morocco and has always been at the center of the evolution of the moroccan Vine growing culture.

From the early “Appellations d’Origine Garantie” to the creation in 1998 of the first Moroccan “AOC Coteaux de l’Atlas ”, then the first appellation “Chateau” granted in 2004, Les Celliers de Meknes have worked constantly on improving the quality of Moroccan wines.

With an annual production of over 25 million bottles , « Les Celliers de Meknes « have the ambition to see the authentic, original and qualitative Moroccan wines increasingly present all around the world.

The cradle of the greatest civilizations, the Mediterranean basin has always been a land of predilection for vineyards. Thanks to its temperate climate, generous sun and naturally rich soils, Morocco, and in particular the Meknesregion is its natural extension.

O u r v i n e y a r d s

The Celliers de Meknes estates cover nearly 2 000 hectares of vineyards divided among Morocco’s most prestigious appellations of origin, among which the AOG Guerrouane, AOG Beni M’Tir, and the country›s only AOC “Les Coteaux de l’Atlas” whose best parcels have been graded as “Premier Cru”.

The climate of the Middle Atlas in the foothills on which most of ourestates are situated, the elevation ranging from 580 to 700 meters, themoderate rainfall and generous sunshine all provide our vineyards withan exceptional site unrivaled in Morocco.

Created in 2004, the Château Roslane is the only wine making facility to be granted the “Chateau” appellation in Morocco.

It includes a 70 000 hectoliter cellar of which 11000 are air conditioned, stainless steel tanks, three sorting conveyor tables for unloading grapes, a coaxial heat exchanger for coloring the entire harvest, pneumatic presses, underground ageing cellars featured with constant temperature and humidity control with a capacity of 3000 oak barrels and 3 millions laid bottles.

Built in a pure Moroccan architectural design, the Château Roslane also includes 700 hectares of vineyards, gardens, «riads», fountains, Moroccan reception rooms...
