LEED v3•Credit weightings

LEED 2009 credits will now have different weightings depending on their ability to impact environmental and human health concerns. LEED now awards more points for strategies that will have greater positive impacts on what matters most – energy efficiency and CO2 reductions.

Sustainable Sites - SSc4.1: The proximity of a building to public transportation reduces single-occupant vehicle use. It also affects a building’s carbon footprint associated with transportation to and from the building. LEED for New Construction 2009 has increased the point value of this credit.

Water Efficiency Credit Category: Reduction in water use associated with irrigation outside the building and fixture/fittings use inside the building has impacts on resource depletion and water shortages.

Energy & Atmosphere - EAc2: Utilizing renewable energy for a building’s energy needs reduces dependency on less environmentally sound energy sources. Using renewable energy impacts a building’s carbon footprint.

3 WAYS TO BE A GREEN PROFESSIONAL

1. LEED Green AssociateFor professionals who want to demonstrate green building expertise in non-technical fields of practice, GBCI has created the LEED Green Associate credential, which denotes basic knowledge of green design, construction, and operations.

The Green Associate credential also serves as the first step for professionals pursuing a LEED AP specialization.

3 WAYS TO BE A GREEN PROFESSIONAL

2. LEED APThe LEED AP credential will continue to signify an advanced depth of knowledge in green building practices. It will also reflect specialization in a particular LEED Rating System.

The LEED AP exam is divided into two parts. The first step is the LEED Green Associate exam, which demonstrates general knowledge of green building practices. The second step is a specialty exam based on one of the LEED Rating Systems. These parts may be taken together or separately.

3. LEED AP Fellow(Under Development)

GBCI is developing a third designation, currently referred to as the LEED AP Fellow credential.

LEED Fellows would become part of an extraordinary class of leading professionals distinguished by their years of experience and contributions toward continuous improvement in the green building field.
