    Voltage source Non regulated current. Small changes in either the input voltage or LED forward voltage result in poor current regulation. Battery voltage varies significantly. LED Vf varies between LEDs and with temperature. Regulation can be as poor as +/- 25%.Current source Active current feedback. Compensates for all variations and provides very tight tolerances.At 700mA, the current sense resistor dissipation would be 350mW if 500mV was used as the sense voltage. With the shunt reference to divide up to it is 70mW. It isnt needed, but for battery power a lower feedback voltage is easy to do this way to extend battery life.With less precision, a simple zener could be used. Tolerance of the reference has a huge impact on regulated current though.Main difference to our existing TPS61045 or TPS6106x series is the much larger Power FET which enables higher output currents.     SHORT FORM DESCRIPTIONThe TLC5940 is a 16 channel constant-current sink LED Driver. Each channel offers individually adjustable 4096-step (12-bit) grayscale PWM brightness control and 64-step constant current sink (dot-correction). EEPROM is integrated into the IC. Industry leading channel-to-channel accuracy and chip-to-chip accuracy improves display quality. Multiple devices can be cascaded serially to allow for full control through a single GPIO.The TLC5940 features two error information circuits. The LED Open Detection (LOD) indicates a broken or disconnected LED at an output terminal. The Thermal Error Flag (TEF) indicates an over-temperature condition.
