SAP Online Help 14.07.2005

Overview: SAP Learning Solution 60_2005_Q3 7

The learning profile helps you keep track of activities and provides you with personaldecision support at your PC. It gives you an overview of current, upcoming, andcompleted learning units. The profile matchup feature provides additional help. Bycomparing the qualifications profile with position requirements, SAP Learning Solution  can automatically generate appropriate course offerings.

A tutorial system, the Content Player, monitors your personal learning process. Thelearner is guided through the course depending on his or her progress and according todidactic strategies.

All learning content is stored and administered in the Content Management System(CMS). Additional WebDAV-compatible folders (WebDAV = Web-based DistributedAuthoring and Versioning) can be used if necessary.

•  Training Management

Training Management  supports both Web-based learning methods and classroomlearning by providing access to the virtual learning environment in the learning portal.Training Management  is an integral part of SAP Learning Solution .

Content Management helps the training administrator to plan and design the course

catalog [Page 16]. There is direct link from the catalog structure to the content stored inContent Management.

As training administrator, your tasks range from course planning and organizationthrough course [External] appraisal. For example:

You create and maintain the course catalog that is available to the learner in theLearning Portal.

You create classroom training, Web-based training or curricula in the coursecatalog.

You enter the date, place, and room for classroom training.

You link a Web-based course to the content stored in the Content ManagementSystem.

You allocate a course the prerequisite qualifications needed to take it and thequalifications that can be achieved by successfully passing it. This information isverified in the Learning Portal when a learner books or completes a course.

You assign the respective target group to the course.

You assign a collaboration room to the course to enable wide-ranging Webcommunication.

You perform follow-up activities for a course and handle the associatedcorrespondence.

The above tasks are carried out in Training Management  of the SAP system.

Authoring EnvironmentAs author or instructional designer, you are responsible for the course content:

You create and structure the course content and tests.

You store the created content in the Content Management system.

You publish the completed content in the application system so that the courseadministrator can find and assign the reference to the relevant course contentwhen he or she creates WBTs.

The Authoring Environment contains tools that authors and instructional designers canuse to create course content and tests. External authoring tools can be easilyintegrated into the Authoring Environment.

Overview: SAP Learning Solution 60_2005_Q3 8

Business Package for Learning (mySAPERP) 1.0

OverviewLearning is a central component of every company. Knowledge transfer within companies isneeded at an ever-increasing pace. SAP Learning Solution  offers a comprehensive Web-based solution that is cost effective and efficient, to optimally satisfy all your employees'learning needs. It provides employees with a learning portal where they can flexibly puttogether and work through their very own training programs anytime, anyplace. The LearningPortal is the employee's individual, personalized learning environment.

The rapidly changing, dynamic technological developments of the present are making thetraditional cycle of schooling-training-career-retirement a thing of the past. Lifelong learning isa challenge that learners, employees, and employers are equally faced with. The growingdemand for training and education is accompanied by rising costs for the company.

Traditional classroom training ties up time and resources, takes employees away from theirday-to-day tasks, and drives up expenses.

This situation calls for new technologies and new strategies. Internet and intranet provide thesolutions. The employee's PC at work or at home becomes a personal training center. This iswhere the threads of individual training and education come together, independent of timeand place, flexible and adaptable on demand. With a simple mouse click you access theLearning Portal where all course offerings are managed and every kind of computer-basedlearning, knowledge transfer and communication is supported.

You can use SAP Learning Solution  to meet multiple needs:

•  To supplement the existing training offering in your corporate curriculum

•  It can help to cut the cost of training by providing more learners with easier access to

training measures.

•  Consultants on the road can use e-learning to improve efficiency and know-how. Fieldpersonnel can access real-time training without needing to be physically present, andlearners seeking to improve their own skills can conveniently access the corporatetraining offering from their own homes.

At the focal point of SAP Learning Solution  are learners, authors or instructional designers, and training administrators. The chief components of the solution are:

•  Learning Portal [Page 10]

The learner accesses the SAP Learning Portal from a PC. The Learning Portal is theinteractive hub of the learner's individual training activities.

•  Learning Management System (LMS)The LMS controls the individual learning process and guides the learner throughcourses depending upon individual learning patterns and progress according to didacticstrategies. Data on learning progress, achieved learning objectives, and test results isstored.

•  Authoring Environment

Course authors can benefit from the templates in the LMS's modern authoringenvironment to create or change course content quickly and efficiently, tailored to theneeds of specific groups of persons. They can reuse existing course content andintegrate interactive elements such as simulations or tests. Metadata appended tolearning objects provides more detailed information about them and their components.

One of the advantages of this is that it enables the learning-specific assignment of alearning object within the course structure:

You can flexibly adapt the same course to meet theneeds of a learner who requires only a brief overview of a topic and those of a learnerwho wants to invest more time to acquire a more thorough knowledge of the subject.

When planning and creating the course catalog, the training administrator has directaccess to the content created in the Authoring Environment.

External authoring tools can be integrated seamlessly.

•  Content Management System (CMS)

All learning content is stored and administered in the Content Management System. Some of the functions offered include:

Status and version management for learning objects

Search Function

Use

The Find  function in the navigation area helps you to find courses quickly and easily. A hit list

displays a list of the courses found. You can display detailed information on courses directlyfrom the list.

You use the search function when you want to find a course but do not want to browse thewhole course catalog.

In the navigation area, the Extended search function lets you restrict the search criteria. Youaccess the Extended search either using the link of the same name in the navigation area orfrom the hit list. Features

The search function includes:

•  Keyword search

You can search for courses using a keyword contained in the title or course description.

•  Extended search

  Subject area

  Delivery method

  Prerequisite

  Aspired qualification

  Target group

  Jobs or positions participating

All of the criteria in the Extended Search  are optional and are related with a logical AND, in other words, they refine the search. For instance, you can search for all

courses that have a specific prerequisite qualification or for all courses with a specificdelivery method.

You want to improve your knowledge of English. You enter the keyword English and startthe search. The resulting hit list displays all courses and delivery methods found that have thekeyword in the course title or description. You can select a course from the list and displayfurther details about it, such as course dates or prerequisite qualifications for the course.
