Create a motivational poster From the 'File' menu, select 'New' then 'Blank File'. Input '24' for width and '18' for height with a resolution of 300 ppi. Press 'cmdctrl-I' to invert the white background to black. Verify the ruler is showing by selecting the 'View' menu and check 'Rulers'. From the top ruler, drag guides to 2" and 14". From the left ruler, drag guides to 2" and 22". From the top ruler, drag guides to 2.5" and 13.5" From the left ruler, drag guides to 2.5" and 21.5" Open a motivational image by selecting the 'File' menu and choosing 'Open'. In the 'Project Bin' click on the black image. From the toolbar, select the 'Move' tool. From the 'Project Bin' drag the motivational image on top of your black image. In the Options Bar, check the 'Show Bounding Box' checkbox. Using the sizing handles, adjust the size and move the image to the inner guides. Nudge the image to the desired location with the arrow keys and press the enter key. From the Toolbox, select the 'Rectangular Marquee" tool. Verify snapping is on by selecting the 'View' menu and choosing 'Snap To' 'Guides'. Draw a rectangle around the inner guidelines. Select the inverse of the selection by pressing 'cmd/ctrl-shift-I'. Press the 'Delete' key. 'Cmd/ctrl-D' to rid the ants. From the Toolbox, select the 'Rectangular Marquee'. Draw a rectangle around the outer guidelines. From the Toolbox, select the 'Eyedropper' tool. Click on a dominant colour in the image (preferably a light colour). From the 'Edit' menu, select 'Stroke'. Enter '15' in the width and select 'Inside' for location. 'Cmd/ctrl-D' to rid the ants. Use 'cmd/ctrl-;' to view the image without guidelines. 'Cmd/ctrl-;' to return the guidelines. From the left hand ruler, drag a guide to 12". From the Toolbox, select the 'Text' tool. In the Options bar, select the 'Copperplate Gothic Light' font and 100 pt. Click on the center guide below the outside guide and type your motivational word. Add approx. 5 spaces between each letter of the word.

From the Toolbox, select the 'Move' tool. Drag outward on the bounding box surrounding the text then press 'Enter'. In the Options Bar, uncheck the 'Bounding Box' option. From the top ruler, drag a guide to the center of your motivational word. Zoom in with the 'cmd/ctrl-+'. From the Layers Pallet, click on the 'New Layer' icon. From the Toolbox, select the 'Elliptical Marquee'. From the Options Bar, change the mode to 'Fixed Size' and enter '30 px' for width and height. Click on the guide between each letter. Swap the foreground and background palettes by pressing 'X' on the keyboard. Press 'cmd/ctrl-backspace' on the keyboard to fill with the background color. Repeat the procedure by clicking between each letter and adding dots. Add another horizontal guide by dragging from the top ruler and placing the guide below the motivational word. Swap the foreground and background colours by pressing 'X' on the keyboard. From the Toolbox, select the 'Paintbrush' tool. In the Options Bar, select a hard brush and change the size to '15 px'. Click on the guideline below the motivational word. Hold the 'Shift' key and click to the right side of the guideline below the motivational word. From the Toolbox, select the 'Text' tool. In the Options Bar, select 'Palatino' with a size of '42 pt' and center justified. Click 'X' on the keyboard to swap the foreground and background colours. Click on the center guideline below the horizontal line you made with the paintbrush. Type in your motivational saying. Brainyquotes is a good resource for quotes. From the Toolbox, select the 'Move' tool. In the Options Bar, re-select the 'Show Bounding Box' option. Drag the side handles in your text to the left and right.
