The client was founded in 2003 to empower a generation of creative scientists to transform medicine with new genome-based knowledge. As the global leader for biomedical research organization, the client's research activities include collaborations with more than a hundred private and public institutions in more than 40 countries worldwide.
Organizational Restructuring Necessitated an Independent Infrastructure
From its founding in 2003, the client was structured as an administrative unit of its parent organization. However, due to a $400 million endowment, it could now transition to a stand-alone non-profit organization. The organizational restructuring meant the client would have the financial foundation required to operate independently while maintaining research partnerships with other institutions. Because the client had been using the internal SAP system of its parent organization to run its operations, this new status also meant the client would require its own independent infrastructure.
As a satisfied user of SAP, the client wanted to continue to utilize the robust functionality of SAP ERP ECC 6.0 as their technology platform. SAP would also be able to integrate with third party vendors for their crucial business needs of HR/payroll, E-Procurement, grant awards, and space solutions.
