WelcomeI have some 20 years experience in fashion styling and as a result I have been fortunate enough to work with some of the most influential people and publications in fashion. One of these, the brilliant hairdresser Trevor Sorbie, I have worked closely with over the years. He hugely influenced my creative thought process and my ability to become extraordinarily cre-ative. He guided me to raise my standards in styling to a level of excellence and created styling opportunities for me at a time when I was undiscovered. As founder of The London Col-lege of Style, I am adamant that the same key ingredients form the foundation of all fashion styling education throughout our curriculum. I believe them to be the key ingredients to success.

Once it has been successfully completed, the college based Foundation in Fashion Styling course provides students with the necessary skills to begin their careers. The fashion industry tends to favour hands on experience and photographic evidence of individual talent. Therefore, our aim is to create a broad scope of exposure to real styling jobs for our students during the course. The experience gained on the LCS Foundation in Fashion Styling course is invaluable to anyone interested in working in the industry. It can be utilised in many ways including gaining access to non-vocational, full time courses at college or university.

The London College of Style Foundation in Fashion Styling course is suitable for complete beginners or those already working in the industry wishing to further develop their skill set. The in-depth and intensive course addresses all aspects of the industry and enables students to develop understanding of an exciting, glamorous and rewarding

career as a professional fashion stylist.

The Foundation in Fashion Styling course takes place one day a week for twelve weeks – the duration of an education term. We structure our classes to be small and intimate with limited spaces per course. This allows students more time for practical work and encourages individual learning. High profile lecturers and guest speakers, who are experts in their field, form an integral part of the course and work alongside the skilled teaching team.

Every term at LCS we invite a select group of fashion industry influencers to assess our stu-dents and their calibre of work. At the end of each term outstand-ing students are given access to professional opportunities with leading fashion brands and will be considered for employment/contracts and work experience.

The Foundation in Fashion Styling course provides opportunity for professional photographic studio shoots where students are able to put into practice their now in-depth knowledge of fashion styling. The photographic studio shoot and evidence from the practical elements of the course provide documentation for a carefully chosen photographic portfolio of fashion styling work. Students will also be equipped with the relevant contacts in order to assist in finding work once the course is complete. LCS advises each student individually as to the area of the industry that best fits their demonstrated skills.

The Foundation in Fashion Styling course starts at 9am and finishes at 5pm. It is important for all LCS students to arrive promptly be-fore the 9am start.

Module 6 - Personal Shopping•How to manage ‘Wake-up Your Wardrobe’ sessions with personal clients.•How to manage ‘Shopping Solutions’ sessions with personal clients.

Module 6 teaches LCS students the skills required by a stylist to successfully re-organise wardrobes and shop on behalf of other people at a professional level. All students are taught to instinctively understand how to adapt to individual client needs and how to create confident clients who look and feel amazing. This Module enables students to acquire the skill set to develop as outstanding personal stylists/shoppers.

Module 7 - Television/Celebrity & Show Styling•How to style models, presenters and actors for television, film and stage. •How to develop self motivation to work well alone and as part of a team. •How to conduct an interview as a fashion expert on television.

Module 7 engages the differences between styling for television and show styling; including live shows for small audiences through to arena tours for international recording artists. Fashion stylists are often requested for live fashion styling on television and personal television appearances. This module teaches practical guidance for professional conduct during an interview when making a personal appearance. Students will utilise their research study of clothing styles affected by a character’s situation, setting and economic status throughout this module.

Module 8 - Brand Analysis•Understanding and recognizing the individual needs of a client and the brand.•Learning how to adapt styling skills between brand clients.

Students learn how to research a brand; its history and public identity and are taught how to adapt their skill set between clients. Understanding brand is integral to correctly styling for a label and translating the look of their garments, shoes, bags and accessories. Styling for a brand or label can entail the beautiful positioning of a single shoe or styling dramatic editorial campaigns for heritage or fantastical brands. Being imaginative whilst keeping the identity of the brand or label intact is an essential skill.

LCS has helped me to be a more confident and artistic stylist and has also brought out the best in me. I’m so glad I chose this

course. Thank you LCS.Daniela Rodriguez, LCS graduate

Personal Clients

Module 9 - Editorial•How to style a model for an editorial photo shoot.•Styling models versus styling personal clients. •Shoot etiquette - expectations.

Editorial styling, unlike styling for a specific store or brand, will often allow the stylist some or complete creative freedom and the opportunity to demonstrate extreme flair and talent. Students are taught how to communicate their styling skills to the Creative Director of a magazine/fashion design label. In addition, students learn the etiquette of a professional shoot, how to liaise with labels, stores and magazines. This module also teaches students how to source accessories plus loaning/borrowing clothing and accessories from contributors.

Module 10 - Creative Development•Styling development - learning how to create a signature style. •Presentation of students’ signature style.

Module 9 – During the Creative Development module LCS students are given the opportunity to combine the styling skills they have learned so far culminating in the formulation of a personal ‘signature style’. This creates a trademark that easily identifies students’ work as theirs in time. During this Module, LCS students learn how to style at a level that is unguided by trend, trusting their own capacity to style free fall. Some of the world’s most influential fashion stylists are responsible for creating trends through their work following the same process.

Module 11 - Individual Student Assessment•Evaluation of individual skill sets and career opportunities within the industry. •List of relevant industry contacts.

The London College of Style appreciates that each student is unique, will have an individual eye for styling and individual artistic ability. The LCS tutoring team devote time to our students to help them progress through the course. Tutors assess course work and guide students through each module answering any questions that may arise. According to individual development across the programme of study, each student receives advice as to which area of the fashion industry their skill set would most suit.

Students are provided with an extremely well researched industry contact resource book, which contains contact information for the fashion industry in the UK and US. It is our aim at LCS for students to complete the E-Learning Foundation in Fashion Styling course with a strong idea of their personal career trajectory and a defined career plan.

LCS alumni are invited to stay in contact with the college and keep us informed of individual progress within the industry. We offer assistance for all our dedicated students in any way that we can and encourage communication beyond successful completion of the course.
