Early Learning and Pre-Grade 1 Introductory exams for beginners or young children including group assessments.

Graded Exams Grades 1-8 in an exceptionally wide range of subjects encompassing classical, jazz, pop/rock and traditional music genres.

Recital Grades An opportunity to enter for a graded exam focusing entirely on performance.

Leisure PlayFlexible performance-only exams including an own choice option.

Performance AwardsCandidates submit a DVD of their performances. These exams provide the candidate with the opportunity to gain performance assessment without attending an exam.

Written ExamsGraded exams in theory and popular music theory, theoretical diplomas, qualifications in composition and by thesis.

DiplomasA range of internationally respected qualifications comprising four levels of performance diplomas and three levels of teaching diplomas.

Exam Structure

LCME’s Music Theatre syllabus aims to promote and encourage knowledge, enjoyment and experience of Music Theatre.

It provides a structured approach that enables students to progressively master the understanding, knowledge and skills necessary for effective communication and performance.

It fosters learning through vocal and dramatic performance techniques and encourages a love of the literary and musical aspects of the genre.

There is an open choice of Music Theatre songs, with an extensive list of suggested repertoire in the syllabus.

ENSEMBLESFlexible syllabus catering for ensembles of all types, sizes and abilities

• Performance Candidates are required to perform pieces with accuracy and musicality as a member of an ensemble.

• Presentation Ensemble candidates are expected to perform with attention to staging and visual presentation.

• Programme Ensembles must provide a written programme demonstrating their competence in writing, designing and producing an accurate and informative written programme for the performance.

Exam StructureLCME’s Ensemble syllabus is aimed at duets, trios, chamber ensembles, rock bands, jazz bands, folk groups, orchestras and choirs.

There is free choice of repertoire and six levels of assessment ranging from the equivalent of Grade 1 to Diploma level.

A detailed report of the performance is provided along with individually named certificates for each performer.

EARLY LEARNINGFor children aged 3-6

• Offered at stages 1, 2 and 3

• Flexible format, including options to speak a nursery rhyme, perform a mime, read a poem, sing a song or perform a piece on any instrument.

• Offered at stages 1 and 2

• Intended for groups of 5-9 children

• Children take part in action rhymes or singing/acting games, followed by a short discussion with the examiner,

Early Learning Group

LCME’s Early Learning syllabus aims to provide encouragement and a basis for assessment in music or speech at very early stages of development.

At all three stages the development of skills and confidence is the main aim, and all children who complete the assessment will receive at least a Pass certificate.

Examiners look for concentration, involvement, enjoyment, enthusiasm and an increasing degree of confidence.
