It is a language teaching method published by michael lewis 1993
Giving importance the insight of the language lexicon
Lexis in the basis of language The lexical approach concentrates on
developing leaners’ proviciency with lexis, or word and word combination
Lexis plays the centra rule Alternative approach to traditional
grammatical approach Chunks, minimal pairs, collocations, lexical
units are the specific characteristics of this approach
BACKGROUND
TYPES OF LEXICAL APPROACH
Lexical approach
Chunks Collocation
Conversational
gambitsIdioms
Similes
Connectives
PRINCIPLE OF LAXICAL APPROACH Chunk
Lexical chunk’s is Group of word that can be found together in language. “Example: At the end of the day”, “that will never happen to me”
Collocation collocations is the way words combine in a language
to produce natural. Example: “pay attention” “house wife”
IdiomIdioms is a sequence of word which has different meaning as a group from the meaning. Example: it’s raining cats and dogs, kick the bucket, spill the beans
Similes: as old as the hills, as still as dead, as hungry as a lion , as easy as A,B,C
Connectives: Finally, to conclude, whereas, meanwhile, consequently
Conversational gambit: is an opening used to star a conversation with someone: gues what! Tell you what, hello, how are you?
Teachers talk is the major source of the leaner input.
To understand and implement the methodology which is based on stages composed of Task, planning, report
To help the leaners manage their own learning after operation
Organizing the technological system, providing scaffoldingto help leaners
TEACHER R0LES
Replace the idea: the teacher is “the knower” the leaners is “the discoverer”
The analyzer of real life language samples based on his or her own explanations
Making use of computer
STUDENT ROLES
1. Language= Grammar+Vocabulary2. Observe-Hypothesis-Experiment
Circle(Present-practise-produce)3. Grammaticalized lexis- not lexicalized
grammar4. Holistic-not atomistic5. Lexicon is prime

considerations on designing LAMaterials
Type 1Course packages
Type 2Collection of vocabullary
teaching activities
Type 3“print out” version of
computer corpora in the text format
Type 4Computer corcondance

to develop students' vocabularyable to communicate wellunderstand the combination of the words
THE PURPOSE OF LA
Students able to communicate Students able to understand of the
meaning Students able to understand of
combination word Student able to understand of sentence
THE ADVANTAGES OF LA
DISADVANTAGES
Kwolage of grammar is less
Difficult to write a good paragraph
Teacher teach to student about language Refer to only one component of
communicative competen Lack the full characterization of an
