A message from our Principal… Good afternoon everyone! It’s been another action packed week here at Lavington Public. Just when you think you’ve seen it all, something comes out of left field just to keep you on your toes! You know the saying ‘you learn something new every day’ – well that is most certainly the case for me!

We have some exciting events on this week. We have some students attending Circus Quirkus! Miss Burns and some supporting crew are taking 31 students

down to experience the circus. I am sure it’ll be an experience they won’t forget in a hurry! Have an awesome time! We also have some students representing our school in the NAIDOC Public Speaking today. Our students have been working with Mr Calabria developing their speeches. We know they’ll do us proud! Also, next Wednesday, we are celebrating NAIDOC Day. Our Aboriginal Education committee have been planning and organising tirelessly for the event. Fingers crossed the weather gods are kind to us and we can enjoy the day. Some activities include shelter making, story time, river rock painting and creating artwork from paint they’ll be required to make themselves. Looking forward to it! Next week also sees the beginning of our Backyard Rugby League program. These sessions will be held each Wednesday from 2 – 3pm. So many opportunities to be involved in! Have a great Friday and an even better weekend.

See you next week! Brett.

2017 NAIDOC PUBLIC SPEAKING Good luck to the following students who are attending James Fallon HS today representing our school at the NAIDOC Public Speaking Competition:

Domanic Hanlon Klaire Livermore Karla Livermore Noah Walkerden Peggy Arnold

Our students had to work together to prepare a 4 minute speech and deliver it as a team. We will advise how they got on in the newsletter next week. NAIDOC DAY CELEBRATIONS Next Wednesday, our school will be celebrating NAIDOC Day with various activities which will run from 9:15am – 3:00pm. Students are welcome to wear casual clothes in the colours of Red, Black and/or Yellow.

CHOIR EISTEDDFOD PERFORMANCE We wish our primary and infants’ choir members together with Miss Elyse Burns and Mrs Lisa Denton all the best as they perform at the Albury Eisteddfod tomorrow. A reminder that students are to wear full school uniform and must bring a packed lunch and water bottle.

INFANTS ASSEMBLY Please note that the Infants Assembly set down for tomorrow has been CANCELLED. LITTLE LEAPS ENROLMENT Enrolment packs have been sent out to all our Kinder 2018 students. If you have not received your pack, please contact the office. ECO GREENHOUSE As we get closer to summer, we are getting ready to plant our seeds. We would like to make a small greenhouse out of plastic bottles. Any plastic bottles you could spare would be warmly welcomed. Please ensure they have been rinsed and are dry. They may be left at the front office in the container provided. Thank you, Mr C. PARENTING YOUR PRETEEN Parents of students in Years 5 & 6 should receive an invitation today to attend a session that will be conducted by our School Counsellor/Psychologist, Ms Evie Bradley on Thursday 24 August at 2:00pm. To help with organisation, please return the slip on the bottom of the invitation by next Tuesday. Tips and information on how to help manage these tricky years will be discussed. MAJOR EXCURSIONS INSTALMENTS Just a reminder to parents of students in Years 3 & 4 and 5 & 6 that the next payment instalment is due for these camps. Of course this is only suggestive. Payments of any amount may be made at any time.

RIVERINA TOUCH FOOTY Congratulations to Ethan Semple and his Riverina team for finishing a creditable eighth in the State at the recent championships. Ethan had a rewarding 3 days by earning the player’s Player Award as well as being Captain of the team. Congratulations Ethan! RIVERINA BOYS SOCCER Another one of our talented students heads off to another State championship. This time it is Kane O’Regan who is a member of the boys’ soccer team. A long drive awaits Kane and his family with Inverell hosting the championships. Enjoy the warmer weather up in the North West of the state Kane and most importantly have a

fantastic time. We wish you and your team all the best. TRENT BARRETT SHIELD Four teams of excited Year 3 and Year 4 students are representing our school at the Trent Barrett Shield Rugby League and League Tag local competition. This event is always well supported by the local government and non-government schools. Our students will no doubt enjoy the experience and for some, try a new sport for the first time. Good luck kids! PSSA SPORT All sports have a general bye tomorrow. The competition will return next week.
