A message from our Principal…

Well, our fortnight of camps are over and we resume school life back on campus this week from Kindergarten to Year 6! I have only had positive feedback from our students and staff regarding their experiences during their time away. I have also seen MANY photos of so many smiling faces – always puts a smile on my dial!

Our pre-service teachers have arrived to complete the practical component

of their training! We would like to officially welcome them all and let you know which classes you may be seeing some new faces:

Kate (KM) Honor (KJ) Zachery (2B) Isaac (4JL) Chloe (5De) Hugh (5Da)

I’m sure they will love their experience at Lavington Public and find our staff generous with their time and knowledge. It has been awesome to see so many new faces attending our Little Leaps Program in 2017. 2018 is going to be an incredibly exciting year where we have 3 straight Kindergarten classes. Mrs M, Mrs Jacka, Mrs Jory and Mrs Glynn are incredibly excited to work with our new students and new families. Lavington Public School is the place to be!

See you soon! Brett

CHOIR EXCURSION Our Primary and Junior choirs will be going on an excursion to visit and sing for residents of the UPA Village, Borella House and also students at Wewak Street school on Wednesday 15 November. Places are limited so students are asked to return their consent note ASAP. There is no cost involved for this excursion.

SYDNEY BOTANICAL GARDENS STAFF VISIT Our school recently received a grant and visit from staff of the Sydney Botanical Gardens to assist with constructing a native garden in our school grounds. Plants that will attract native birds were planted by our Year 6 students with staff from the Botanical Gardens as well as Mr Calabria’s expertise on hand to assist.

ASD GET-TO-GETHER

A reminder that next Monday, 6 November we will be holding another afternoon tea/get-to-gether for parents of children with ASD. The meeting will be

held in the Breakfast Club at 2:00pm. We look forward to seeing you there!

This week, Penny from Halve Waste visited our K-2 students to help us think about waste. Students were able to explore the different items that go into each of our bins, practicing sorting of rubbish and thinking about how we can reduce our waste. It was lots of fun and we look forward to seeing the changes we can make. STUDENT BUS PASSES Children in YEAR 2 who currently hold a Bus Pass are advised that they must re-apply for the 2018 year before 31 December 2017 by going online at:

https://apps.transport.nsw.gov.au/ssts/udateDetails If Year 2 students do not re-apply, their pass will be cancelled at the end of the school year and a new one will have to be applied for next year. Where a student meets the new eligibility criteria, the system will automatically update their entitlement and a new card will be issued. Please note this is only applicable to Year 2 students – all other bus pass holders do not have to re-apply. If you have any questions, please contact the school office. K–6 PRESENTATION NIGHT Presentation Night is an opportunity for our school community to celebrate the success of students who deserve acknowledgement for their efforts over the year. As you can appreciate, not everyone will be receiving an award on the night. This however should not deter students or families from attending this special occasion. Our school aims to deliver education that inspires students to succeed, foster high expectations and prepare boys and girls for positive participation in society. A whole school presentation night is just one function where we can celebrate current achievements and hopefully inspire other students to reach their full potential and aim for recognition in future years. Albeit not compulsory, the night is very much an important function that promotes our great school. Families’ attendance is welcomed and encouraged. We hope to see everyone at the Albury Entertainment Centre, Swift Street Albury on Wednesday, 6 December at 6:30pm.
